@@limeangelo6019 Yes ... AND no one seems to understand that Blizzard actually DESTROYED what Starcraft was in SC2, when they included "perfect unit movement" AND "unlimited control groups". This adds up to ULTIMATE DENSITY OF DAMAGE (a TIGHT blob of Marines), which gives the attacker the advantage and thus only "trained Koreans" can play it well enough. With Brood Wars you could play BGH with your friends of different skill levels without one of them roflstomping everyone else.

Even though Starcraft 1 cutscenes obviously don't have the greatest animation, they still are able to effectively express a variety of feelings. Whether it is the unsettling nature of the terrifying Zerg, the triumphant and often overwhelming power of the Protoss, or often times just good comedy for the Terran; the cutscenes are memorable and achieve the desired effect despite limitations. To be fair, each marine attack in-game is a volley of shots (if going by sound, then 6-8 shots per attack), and their guns are .50 caliber rounds fired from electromagnetically propelled railgun rifles. This means that you need 40-50 rounds of a weapon that can probably shred apart current era tanks to kill ONE Zergling, so the Zerg are in fact ludicrously OP and made even more so by their mass numbers.

A los comunistas (modernos) los veo como gente que quizá desea hacer el bien, lograr una utopía, pero que traen mucha confusión encima, no los veo como gente mala. It's a damn shame that Blizzard lost so much of their magic. I like the dark tone to Starcraft 1 and Brood War, which had a serious, mature and adult story-line. SC2's campaign is so damn different and the story is much more shallow. I did not believe that Blizzard produced it. The characters were as flat as cardboard and they ruined the series by turning it into a corny love story. The mission briefings didn't have the the strong dialogue in that of Brood War's. The characters in Brood War were well-spoken people and sounded like they were in Greek epic or something. Raynor just met Kerrigan when he joined the Sons of Korhal. He wasn't that attached to Kerrigan. Maybe Blizzard couldn't think of a better way to continue the story. They worked hard on SC2 but its campaign just doesn't match up to the glory days. I think they should make a SC1 and BW anniversary with better graphics and more high quality cut scenes, but without removing the things that made SC1 epic - the dialogue, the dark tone to the story and the serious, life-like characters without all the junk that made Starcraft 2's campaign shallow and childish.

Tom Cat Keep telling yourself that, must be you're either too nostalgic at heart or just not invested enough in the current gaming scene to know that the jewels of this era in gaming excel at everything old games just weren't ready for yet. Mechanics are better, production value has went way up, visuals are better, communities grow larger, bigger multiplayer (bigger everything actually) and most narratives are awesome, you just need to avoid the corny, cheesy, crappy AAA storywriting and -telling if you find story really important. Shit's real good nowadays, you just need to get over all the good times you had playing the old stuff, it's not always as amazing as you make it up to be.
@tomcat15179 жыл бұрын
Karel Van Daele I guess I'm being nostalgic but the feeling remains. I think the same about movies, animes and mangas.. Especially about mangas, my favourite ones date back to the 90's or even earlier. The reason might be that I grew up with that stuff, so watching and comparing the various masterpieces all around brings back old memories. I don't know but that feeling of surprise and wonder is not the same. I can bring u some examples, like "The Fifth Element" or "The Terminator". There is a scene in the first movie I mentioned, where the Diva sings and u can see planet Earth in the background. It was simple, yet beautiful, and I'm not the only one saying that. I played all the Starcraft games, but the first ones cannot be beaten in my opinion. I'm not talking about the graphics, the visuals and the communities, cause of course, this battle will be won by the recent games. I'm talking about something I can't find anymore and that I can't explain properly (and I apologize for that). And it's not about growing up or dealing with reality, cause I still play and read mangas like when I was a teenager (or even earlier).
@LiarraSniffles_X39 жыл бұрын
Tom Cat I'm nostalgic as shit about morrowind and oblivion, but after playing skyrim I just can't go back and enjoy them like I used to because of how horribly dated everything is. SC1 holds up ok compared to newer rts games, but I wouldn't give it any awards outside of a neat storyline that is not afraid to be dark. Nostalgia is 50/50. Basically, stop trying to compare everything to 'the good old days' and you will suddenly find yourself marveling at everything again like you used to, although you're now more mature than you used to be (I hope ;3). Just let things stand on their own and don't try to compare it negatively to the past, it does it's own things that the past didn't or couldn't do, so there is now more new stuff than ever to wonder at. TLDR: you cant forget what you learned in the past, but if you really try to avoid comparing everything to it, you will find yourself enjoying everything new a lot more.

I love the old terran in SC1. SC2 was a huge miss step, story-wise.
@Muck0062 жыл бұрын
Not just story-wise ... but also from the game-mechanic sense, because giving units "perfect movement" and the ability to form tight clumps increased the "damage density" to absolute maximum ... EASILY. Thus the ATTACKER had the clear advantage, which makes defenses semi-pointless. Thus STRATEGY was replaced by ACTION ...

StarCraft II's script is a silly space opera, a mockery of the first title's dark story and an insult to the deliciously evil female badass that was BW's Kerrigan. Luckily it's first and foremost an online multiplayer game, arguably the best, and the single player missions are still fun to play.
@dawsonoo79 жыл бұрын
+xtremereggae True that, but I kind of enjoyed Wings of Liberty's story.... still, the ending was too fairy-tale for starcraft. They could have done it much better, if Kerrigan would have been killed, Raynor goes mad with fury and kills Tycus, then in the second expansion when facing Zeratul's impending doom vision thing, they could have done something along the psi emitter development line story... the zerg are in chaos and fighting amongst each brood again and Raynor's crew tries to gather intel and develope a new advanced psi emitter to somewhat control the zerg and use them against the coming Xel'Naga (but secretly he just wants to use them to attack the Dominion and kill Mengsk. We could have also had a some major story development for Nova, with Raynor trying to turn her against the Dominion and maybe use her powerful psi abilities in conjunction with a new psi-emitter to control the zerg... basically try to use Nova in the role of a Queen of Blades... but maybe without the whole metamorphosis again (would be too repetitive). Sorry for the wall of text, but I just had this alternative story idea and couldn't keep it to myself :D

+xtremereggae are you not listening to the story? catch up on it in legacy of the void and tell me again how its some mockery. i think it lived up to sc1 nicely.

Even with their aged quality..the old cutscenes outshine the mess that is SC2. What happened to the sublime???
@Szederp10 жыл бұрын
***** SC1's story was mature, political and adult. And the cutscenes reflected that perfectly with the dark atmosphere you mentioned. It did not feature "in your face" scenes...it rather created a forum for conjecture than spoon feed you "teh epicness".

Alonso de Hojeda adult and mature are not points of praise in the same way childish is not a point of criticism they are merely descriptive terms and the fact that a story is considered by you as adult or mature does not affect the product in any way shape or form

Absolutely loved the gameplay, music and artwork of SC2, but the script... it's like the script was fanfiction written by a 13 year old. The story and dialogue of SC1 was more intelligent in every conceivable way.

Ive always been pussled by the opening scene and endscene of the Terrans... The sound design is wellmade, and gives a feeling of loneliness... The reason is the echo in the spacecrafts radio... But the catch is.... In space, and even more so... in a suit... there is no room for echo.... The sound gives you the right feeling, but the physics say its ooo so wrong with echoes in space or tightup suites... Wierd how association overrides common sense.

I always hate seeing the poor white Marine and the black Marine left to die in the trench, its kinda funny because the black marine knows that if the BC isnt already helping it wont so hes coping with his death by rocking back and forth. The white marine somehow holds on to it till the very end until that look on his face when the BC heads off to orbit.

The marines in the trenches were not their men. Actually they were enemies because the marines were from Terran Dominion while Stukov and DuGalle are from UED. They were observing warfare and potentialities of zerg and hostile terrans.
