This mission was so good, that they just had to remake it in Frozen Throne. I mean, powerful female protagonists with undeniable similarities - check, mission in the middle of the last campaign of the expansion - check, several minites to wreak havoc upon your passive enemies (with their extreme retaliation afterwards) - check, even map layout with a start in the top middle of this mission and main enemy bases at bottom left and right corners. And I really like both of them.

All things considered, Blizzard copy-pasted a fair few things from SC1 into WC3. Just look at which races you play for the campaigns (ignoring the Orcs) and it's exactly the same in WC3 as it is in SC1. Humans then the "evil swarm" and ending with the mystical race for the base game. The mystical race, humans, then ending with the evil side on the expansion. Plus there's the Arthas-Kerrigan comparison too.

I went after T, CC's prioritized. I can deal with Protoss counter-attacks, but those nukes tilted me. Also, this mission, and BW generally is tightly written. Kerrigan is so beautifully evil. The SC2 lore feels like this episode is weakly retconned, or poorly remembered.

Starcraft II was well made, but clearly every piece of content had to pass focus groups. The player always has to "be the good guy" in mass market games. In this brood war mission alone, Kerrigan murders people not "because she's the bad guy" or "because it's in the script", but because she anticipates their potential to threaten her (as mentioned in the briefing). Sadly, I don't think this kind of story will ever come out of Activision-Blizzard.

This was my biggest complaint and why I hated WoL's storyline on launch. "Don't I? I'll see you dead for this, Kerrigan. For Fenix and all the others who got caught between you and your mad quest for power! It may not be tomorrow, darlin'. It may not even happen with an army at my back. What I did in my first six minutes is get my three lurkers burrowed near the three command centers so they don't destroy them but do destroy any comsats. It is just possible, and the AI does not use science vessels or build command centers just for comsat, so a just a couple of lurkers outside your base means you are safe from the terrans. And you can do that with just the lurkers so you can do decent damage to the Protoss as well. It's tricky though.

I ACTUALLY missed the briefing part about destroying 1 of the 2 bases in time. I mean the Terrans were interpretted as sort of a caught up third wheel race in this whole Alien War so that's one good reason to get rid of them. The other being nukes, their specialists and their solid defense. Protoss is just late game researched race to be OP so you can deal with them easily.

well in Blizzard's defense, Zeratul told Raynor that Kerrigan was the last hope of the universe, and the only way that the Overmind could bring freedom to the Zerg and break the cycle of destruction. So he couldn't just kill her.

Literally everything you just bitched about made sense if you paid attention. -Tassadar is still dead, and even before they decided to turn him into just a projected form for Orous the point was that he'd transended the physical and become one with the Kalah. -The Overmind was never good, it only cared about the zerg and didn't want them to be destroyed, it would have happily had the Swarm consume every other living creature. -Stukov was revived in the bonus missions of the console adaptation. Not everything was cannon from them but that chain was. -The Fenix in SC2 doesn't even know who Kerrigan is aside form what he's read in the archives and even then he's aware there's more important things to deal with. -Zeratul was a guilt ridden loner who stumbled on the apocalypse and was desperate to avoid it. That's it, he's not particularily was or guiding. -Raynor is an alcoholic because literally everything he;s loved has been killed or twisted into something horrible and those responsible are thriving and he's made no progress in avenging any of them. He also considers Sarah and the Queen of Blades to be different people, he loves one of them and hates the other. It's why he's so mad at her in HoTS when she shows up infested. -Kerrigan has always been emotionally damaged, it's the whole point of her backstory, right from the beginning. She was just better adjusted in the original chapter because she thought she had a home and friends. Then Mengsk showed her it was all a lie and all she had left thatw as genuine was Jim. -Why wouldn't Mengsk be fine? The Terran Dominion had their fleets ruined, sure. But everything else was intact and she's been gone for 4 years, they rebuilt.

Much of the development team is different. An unfortunate fact of reality. The name Blizzard lives on, but the people don't- at least not to the same degree. There's certainly many people who still worked there. That said SC1 was a bit of a fluke as to how great it was; not really entirely reproducible.

Wow! I had more trouble with this mission last time. You made this look easy, Lowko! :) I remember being super weirded out by the pining-for-Kerrigan-lovelorn Raynor we got in SC II: Wings of Liberty. Because at the end of Brood War (as you see from this mission), Raynor made a promise to kill her. I was also wondering how Arcturus Mengsk rebuilt the Dominion (especially Korhal) to be this magnificent shining empire so soon (because Wings of Liberty starts just 4 years after the end of Brood War).

The correct way to do it is to kill the protoss Nexus'es or the terran Command Centers, but it is very important to kill all the SCV's or probes otherwise they will rebuild them after the 5 minutes. After that it's just a 1v1. Well you could partialy destroy both bases for more of a challenge if you're into it. if you want to play 2 v 1. To each their own.

Start mission. ASAP, send the lurkers to the first terran command center, the zerglings to the first nexus and the hydras to the second nexus. As soon as the lurkers kill their command center, send them to the second CC and make sure to destroy that CC's addon first, then the CC itself. Your zerglings should have finished the first nexus by now, so send them to the third command center, and target the turrets near it. Meanwhile, your hydras should be close to arrive to the second nexus far south the map. Make sure to tuck them in the mineral line and kill the defending units and that nexus. Afterwards, send them to the third CC and target the turrets, just like with the lings. The lurkers should have finished the second CC so send them to the third. Since there are no turrets (or very close to be destroyed), and you destroyed their only satcom before, the enemy cannot spot the lurkers beneath the CC when the timer expires, and they can destroy it. Now the enemy has no economy, and you can just play cleanup

the trick to this mission is skipping the units and buildings during the 1st 6mins. kill the nexi and command centers so they have no means to reinforce.

I only understand about half of this conversation, but I still LOVE it. And a zerg larva has the genetic code for each unit that they can morph into, so they basically have multiple options of what to be a clone of.

You know, they could have made Raynor killing Kerrigan work. Keep Wings of Liberty the same, have Jim have some thoughts then put the bullet in her head. Heart of the Swarm, the cerebrate (you) becoming the new Overmind intent on revenge with the death of your queen. You could even keep the level system and hero unit it had, just make the even more customizable (with the replay value to try out different evolutions maybe??). Legacy of the void, team up with raynor and the survivors of the koprulu sector to wipe out the zerg once and for all. The game didn't need the xel'naga and Amon bullshit, the characters we had were good enough at destroying the universe on their own.

Kept the Amon stuff? It would be pretty boring, as Amon simply would've annihilated all of the races without dispute. Kerrigan herself is a big enough loss in power, (as noted in the game, Kerrigan's transformation in Zerus was far more powerful then the old Queen of Blades) and she already knew they were doomed to fail. There would be very little struggling, as Amon would have just went planet to planet, crushing their defenses, and slaughtering everyone with his zerg, protoss, terran, and fully decked out hybrid army.

im just saying, if you read the old manual for sc1 the Xel'naga were just ancient alien bio scientists, not some weird gods. if they kept with that, then Amon could have just been killed like the overmind. no prophesy bull shit or helping former super space hitler kerrigan become a god. just good old fashion starcraft.

+E Corellius, Then who were gods that the protoss characters keep talking about in both protoss campaigns in Starcraft 1? The fact that the Starcraft 1 manual refers the Xel'naga as some kind of teachers, the fact that the Khala was linked to how the protoss were uplifted by the Xel'naga and that it represented a kind of a religion to the protoss on Aiur in addition to the fact that protoss characters in both the base game protoss campaign and Broodwar protoss campaign in Starcraft 1 talk about "gods" in their speeches, all suggest that the Xel'naga were considered to gods by the protoss even in Starcraft 1, even if it doesn't specifically say so.

i killed all the command centers and nexus before the time was up it makes the map easier to deal with as they can produce anymore
