CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Septimus (Mark Strong) walks in on Captain Shakespeare (Robert De Niro) getting into the spirit of the Can Can.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A charmingly naïve boy from the English village of Wall travels to a magical, mythical world in search of the falling star that will help him win the heart of his true love in this fantasy adventure starring Charlie Cox, Claire Danes, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ricky Gervais, and Sienna Miller. For hundreds of years the massive cobblestone barrier that surrounds the sleepy English hamlet of Wall has kept the citizens of the village safe and secure from the malevolent supernatural forces that stir just outside its perimeter. When dashing Tristan Thorne (Cox) promises the fairest girl in the village, Victoria (Miller), that he will prove his love by bestowing her with a genuine falling star, his daring mission sends him on an adventure far outside the comfortable confines of Wall. In order to find the fallen star, Tristan will have to ascend the wall and venture deep into the forbidden heart of the fantastical realm known as Stormhold. Upon discovering that the meteorite he sought was in fact a beautiful girl named Yvaine (Danes), who has stumbled though space and is now being pursued by the King of Stormhold's (Peter O'Toole) sons (who long to use her cosmic powers to lay claim to the throne), Tristan vows to protect the otherworldly visitor at all costs. But the king's sons aren't the only ones in search of the luminous Yvaine; fearsome witch Lamia (Pfeiffer) has become convinced that the young girl's power can help her to achieve eternal youth and beauty. As Tristan makes his way through Stormhold on a mission to bring the star back to Wall, he will encounter a series of spectacular characters and creatures that will lead him to a fate he never imagined. Layer Cake director Matthew Vaughn serves as director and co-screenwriter for this tale of witches and pirates adapted from the novel by fantasy icon Neil Gaiman, who also produces.

One of the funniest scenes of the film, love the contrast between the pirate fight and the Captain dancing. The best part is when Septimus discovers the Captain dancing and the camera continually cross-cuts between his face and the Captain playing with the feathers and looking just beyond the camera.

One of de Niro's overlooked performances, about this time he did a lot of stuff where he didn't really care, here he gives it his all and it's glorious to see. I can't help but feeling for Shakespeare, having to front an image of a ruthless womanizing captain but in his private time he fantasizes about dancing, being beautiful and flirty, and just enjoying his life. It's deep if you want to look at it that way.

This was my favorite scene in Stardust. I still can't believe they got him to play this part! and he wasn't a twinkle toes he was a whoopsie! And it was So cool that not only had his crew long known their Captain was gay...But they kept his secret knowing he was worried about his reputation, till he was outed. and then let him know they always knew and it didn't matter to them, Hhe was still their Captain and they accept and still stand with him.

It gets better. We see them again at the coronation scene. They are all foppishly dressed just like Shakespeare and have CLEARLY all asked their Captain to work his makeover magic on them, too. So not only did they keep his secret, and accept him as he was right to his face, THEY EMBRACED HIS LIFESTYLE, TOO, and are very, very clearly loving it!

I love how easily they fall for the bowing thing, and then the guy hits him with a mallet! This a great movie, too bad it's not sold anymore. I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

IMO, the heavys played the absolute BEST parts in this sinfully underrated movie. Michelle Pfeiffer (Lamia - evil witch) was wicked fun & Peter O'Toole's King (even though he was only in it for five minutes cracked me up 'in an unconventional manner') -even Ricky Gervais as Ferdy. But Robert De Niro (Capt. Shakespeare) took the cake for me. Covering his mole with black make-up in the shape of a heart; it was a wrap. 1 of my top 5 best movies ever. Aaarrrr! Respect. ~ D. Two thoughts: De Niro must've had A LOT of fun while starring in this movie and Mark Strong (Septimus) would make a great Severus Snape in Harry Potter franchise :)

They’re all at the top of their game here. Mark Strong’s face is priceless, DeNiro looks like he’s having the time of his life until he’s not, and Fletcher is just perfect. Three unassuming acting masterclasses. A lot to learn and appreciate in a movie that deserves so much more praise than it gets. Mathew Vaughn is a great director.
