Awesome build man. Can confirm that placing objects in build mode makes them static. But heads up, I ran into a bug where sometimes all my clutter will disappear sometimes, outta nowhere. Don't know why, but a fix I think is working for me is when your clutter disappears, go into build mode, top view, select the structure it's all in, and then put it back down. It does a little refresh.

Dear Darth Xion, Thanks for making an outpost video for Starfield, I found the ones you made for 76 really handy. This might be an oversight, but the 2nd storage crate furnishing can be used as an output for your resource collection containers. You can link multiple storage crates & they all fill from the last crate. Eg I have a helium extractor linked to gas storage (stores 150 helium) linked to a storage crate (stores 300 helium) & then use the storage crate as a resource pool for any items (like generators) that require helium fuel. That way when my gas storage tank lights up green, I can just take the contents for myself & let it refill over time. I have a short video on my channel about using this technique to make credits mining Plutonium, it's less than a minute, if you check it out it'll make sense to someone like you in about 2 seconds. Enjoy!
@DarthXionGames
@DarthXionGames 11 ай бұрын
Cheers! I'll have a look into that storage crate thing. For the moment I'm split between building a dedicated outpost for storage and shipping and just keeping resources to a minimum so that I don't have to organise an ever growing number of full containers. If your suggestion works the way I think then It might make my storage outpost idea even more viable. 🤔 I'm going to need custom signs and labels though before this idea gets totally out of hand! 😂
@_Sammy_J
@_Sammy_J 11 ай бұрын
@@DarthXionGames the inter-galaxy transport is a bit odd, the best method I've found is to only use it for moving a single resource like helium, or to move ingredients to one of the fabricator machines. It does seem like a storage/crafting outpost is the best way to go rather than shipping resources from every location because it does get ridiculous. Much easier to mine 1 resource, sell it, & buy whatever you need for crafting. I also tried splitting the import shipments into gas/liquid/solid to separate the 3 as they arrive, it kinda works but it's buggy & things like gas occasionally end up in the solids container etc ✌

Great camp. I built my first outpost on a hostile planet because I got iron, aluminum, beryllium and H3O all in one outpost. I bring in copper from another outpost and use the mats for power leveling and caps, uh credits. I also am frustrated with a few things like outpost material management and snapping. I have a bunch of storage bins for stuff produced in that outpost. I also have a long line of bins I store stuff I bring back to the outpost. It's a very long line of containers because it's impossible to put more anywhere nearby without it snapping. Then say I want to get some titanium to take somewhere else I need to search through each solid bin until I find it. These are all fixable problems and if Bethesda doesn't fix it I am sure moders will. The mods we will eventually get are on thing I am really looking forward to.

You can stack them, I have ran into that problem with snapping too though, the way I got around it was to make isles like a storage depot, you just have to line it up just outside the snap range, I build my habs in the corner and most of my outposts are storage and landing pads. I spent the last 2 days setting up storage links so I can afk for most resources now
@zourin8804
@zourin8804 11 ай бұрын
A thing that helps is knowing that a link pad can transport 1 ware, 1 ore, 1 liquid, and 1 gas in each direction without getting too tangled up thanks to storage type separation. in the case of inter-system pads, that 'outbound' gas is probably going to be your He3 pipeline, but the "return" gas pipeline can be something else.

Wouldn't hold my breath on Bethesda fixing the building system honestly. It will be mod authors that make it what it should have been in the end. Also there is a nice little mod/ini tweak on nexus that already vastly improves placement, control, snapping distance, rotation speed, and some other things. Highly recommend it and it doesn't affect achievements either because it's ini edits.
@DarthXionGames
@DarthXionGames 11 ай бұрын
They made changes based on feed back to the system in Fallout 4 and are constantly developing things for 76. I'm sure that their current flagship title will get some attention too. Most of the placement stuff is fine and there's a setting in the game menu to adjust rotation speed. The snapping thing might be helpful, but it won't do much for console players at this point. If they add a snapping toggle that will solve most of the issues there.

@@DarthXionGames, yeah still not holding my breath flagship title or not. Willing to bet that the vast majority of "improvements" and QOL comes from mods. Not to mention it doesn't cost that much more than the basic landing pad, in terms of resources.

Outposts are more of a self-serving line of gameplay. To make more advanced modules, you need the advanced component fabricator and the resources to run it (such as drill rigs). If you are not perked for outposts (Charisma + Science), I do not advise getting into outposts at all. At a basic level, outposts really don't open up any kind of gameplay or profitability, just like not being perked for exploration is tedious and time consuming. Basic outposts can let you get a large landing pad and mine He3 for a fuel relay for travel, but that's about it.
@DarthXionGames
@DarthXionGames 11 ай бұрын
I've got a theory on how you could make things fairly profitable if you wanted, I'll have to look into it though. For me the main point is creating something interesting for its own sake though. It may be that shelves, cabinets, etc. can't be installed on slanted walls secondary to... physics. The devs may not have want to create new item field(s) defining where/how items can placed (beyond what already exists). It would be nice if crew/robots stationed at outposts possessed manageable routines, such as selling materials. This is a feature I enjoy NPCs having in, say, Skyrim (so that you don't have to run back to a town every five minutes -and- deal with merchant coffer limitations). If modders are able to do it with the limited ways they can interact with a ten-year-old API, then devs should be able to do it better (this can become your mantra - there are a lot of amazing mods). I'm baffled by many of the design decisions made, which not only includes features that were implemented and how they were implemented, but those that weren't. Some of it very simple. It's as if the devs have been living in a Fallout vault, cut off from the outside world... or they have decision makers who make bad decisions. Have they not seen mods for their own games or other games (going back decades, in some cases)? I'm enjoying Starfield quite a bit. I just don't understand how many of the issues I've encountered, things I think should be different and things that seem missing are the way they are. I don't think it's a time issue. Some of the things I'd change were addressed in less than 24 hours - without modding tools (again, devs with access to the code could do it better).

Good work on your starter base. I agree with most of your rants about the limitations, and would like to add/emphasize the lack of interior walls & doors, like I want to have some space privacy in my space base. I mean they have toilets sinks & other bathroom fittings so you can do your space business (boldly going where noone has gone before, I guess?), but they couldn't be bothered to even include a proper bathroom stall, and considering that there are stalls in some of the abandoned bases you randomly find, there is literally no excuse for that omission! But yeah, the cargo network thing is completely borked, and until they or some enterprising modder fixes that, I'm just going to set up resource extracting bases & use my ship with massive cargo capacity to manually haul whatever resources I need from one base to another myself....

I'm wondering if something we unlock further on down the line might make for a better bathroom space. It may [or may not] be that internal walls are something I'll have to research. In the showcase this summer there was a base with multiple rooms stacked on top of each other so once I can unlock/figure that out and have a load more decoration options I should have the option to build something more interesting. Outpost question: Why? Why do outposts exist? I'm now 129 hours into a playthrough, still barely having touched any faction questline and not done with the main questline (I've had random encounters in distant space that ended up taking up several play sessions) and I've not set up an outpost. Perhaps the "tutorial" should've pushed me to do this more (planting a beacon is on one of the mission lists, but I think I was being attacked at the time and forgot about it). This typed, on a related tangent, I did actually place miscellaneous items in my ship, but they were then all moved to cargo when I added parts. It'd be nice if this were addressed (which you touch upon in this video), because I don't want to spend time doing this if it will be wiped... and I can't see never updating my ship again. Same with outposts, if I should build one... which I may just for the gamification award (achievement). I'd also like more control over how things look, like getting rid of or moving clutter added in ship/outpost modules - to make them my own. How about painting the walls (changing colors)? How about a logo on the exterior of my ship or custom painting? All these things (and more) would be nice.

The whole transfer pad to bring in resources is very cool but becomes very annoying when you have 3 shuttles constantly taking off and landing even when they are hauling nothing. They should increase the cargo limit on them and have them stop when the destination storage is full.
@DarthXionGames
@DarthXionGames 11 ай бұрын
Imo they need to remove the cargo limit altogether and go back towards the way it worked in Fallout 4 giving complete access to everything in the outpost at the other end. The trick to avoid noise seems to be to build a separate distribution centre outpost with only a single ship going between there and your main home.

In your early game outpost, you should install a storage crate close to your ship in order to store your contraband items. At this stage in the game you likely won't have shielded cargo or sensor jammers yet, which means you won't be able to land in any major city with contraband in your hold without getting in trouble. Just make a quick pit stop at your outpost, unload your illicit goods in your crate, and be on your way to wherever you're going. By the time you reach the point where your ship has shielded cargo and can reliably evade detection from the authorities, you can go back and grab your loot, bring it planetside, and sell it at a Trade Authority for a tidy profit.

Yeah, the storage limitations pretty much killed my interest in outposts. Imagine if they imposed that kind of limitation in *FO4.* Yeah, there was a limit to what you could build in any given settlement (and even then, there was a bug that could be exploited to get around that), but your storage capacity was limitless, which made resource management simple. I hope to God this is something sorted out in an upcoming update, 'cause like I said, the storage capacity alone has killed any interest I had in outpost building.

I sort of felt a bit doubtful about the base building aspect, especially because of the prefabs, which seemed to limit the things you could do and make it a Subnautica-type build. I haven't made any outposts yet, but I did try a hand at decorating my character's Dream Home. It worked fairly well, but I really don't like only being able to rotate things with the left and right mouse button. A single click moves it too far and it can be a real challenge to line it up precisely.

Some tips for people: 1. Every object you place down from you inventory can be picked up again. 2. Not everything you place down "sticks" to another object - I have had aid food plates float after moving the table I put them on, ut I also have witnessed this with me putting build objects (e.g. a wall mounted monitor) also not moving when ou attempt to move a hab 3. Ensure you build the structure layout first because of the above issues. I tried to expand a smaller outpost and it just didnt work. 4. Personally I have found changing the overhead camera angle to be even higher helpful to avoid noving a structure as aggrievedly because your cursor is easier to position. 5. Forcing an object to snap to another object is easier by viewing from the overhead view and then zooming in and moving the cursor on the very top of the object you want to snap to - This has helped me place two seperate structures closer together than I was otherwise able to. 6. I have been able to offset buildings by the size of 1 hallway by snapping a hab to a hallway and then removing the hallway. So I hade two seperate buildings that were positioned so they looked lik e like steps. 7. Sometimes working with the snapping works better than trying to fight it. So snap one hab to another and just remove the doorway between the two (by tapping A on that wayy when in modify mode). 8. If you want to have a hab next to another had but at a lower position, create a hab, attach another two habs, remove the middle hab, modify the third one and then lower it before snapping a new hab 9. If you want to move an object from the inside of a hab to the outside, and then back into another hab, you can pick up the object in 1st person, switch to overhead view, place that object down outside the building, go outside abd enter a second building, pick it up again in overhead and then toggle back into 1st person mode. The object appears right before you in 1st person mode and you can place it down. 10. The only way to add solid walls (without windows) onto a hydroponics hab is to connect anoher hab to it (an airlock, or hallway or other hab). 11. Placing inventory items down annoying have a really expanded collision box, but sometimes they will turn from red to white by rotating them first, sometimes allowing you to place objects closer to one another. 12. Annoyingly you cannot place an inventory object on top of another unless you drop it and pick it up without using the build modify mode, My thoughts on the outpost building: Bethesda really messed up here, Structures aren't anywhere near as customisable due to their module design compared to what vanilla pre-DLC Fallout 4 was. It doesn't just work, when I would argue Fallout 4 did. They've carried over too many limitations from Fallout 76, which wasn't a bad game but the settlement building only became good with the abundance of atom shop purchases. Not being able to scrap and get resources back, or store an item for later is deeply annoying - it feels like they're trying to arbitrarily inflate the games time to create an outpost. Why can't I place a hab floating over a mountain edge? Its things like this that really restrict the game. The game allows you to leave single hallways floating in the sky, so why not habs, Bethesda need to give us more control. My channel (which is mostly rubbish streams) is full of me creating some incredible structures and settlements in Fallout 4, my brother often says the buildings looks lik things Bethesda have made themselves. I created these mostly through the sole use of snapping, with the occasional rug/pillar glitch thrown in, but most of that is not possible here. They could do a lot to get this back to the quality of fallout 4. I appreciate your video, as I've seen most channels talk about the good but often leave out the constructive criticism. But we should all be discussing the issues with controls, UI, and lacking quality of life things so Bethesda take notice and improve things.

Like yourself mate, I'm loving some of it and annoyed at some. Resource sharing is a big one. And why no foundation type tiles..? I hate those little concrete block pedistools items are on. And the landing pads.. so very ott huge, at least have them with an interior of storage & engineering; a place to put your benches etc. And allow Habitats to snap on to them. Especially the huge one ! Lol, & the stairs railings, why can't the program just edit them out when the stairs are half in the ground? An airlock without stairs would be great too. I think they'll take another look at the resource thing. The feedback is pretty clear on it. I do understand the size of the landing pads though. Ships are massive and need a lot of space to land. You can see my ship in the video and it barely fits on the landing pad. The landing struts actually stick off the side in one place. Given that ships can get up to twice that size... 🤷‍♂️ it would be nice to be able to build/ add on to them more easily though.
