Great clip! A few more things worth mentioning. Some planets have multiple biomes. When you see "biome complete", that means there are no more new discoveries of a type (flora, fauna etc) left in that particular biome. You will have to launch into orbit again and land in another biome on the planet you are surveying. Occasionally too, you will have to go to the ocean to find sea creatures if you have exhausted your searches for all fauna on land. Finally, when you are selecting a new landing site, the descriptor that pops up when you hover over a prospective site will tell you what type of biome it is and the percentage of how much you have already explored that type on the surface. Happy exploring.

To me the most urgent DLC/FLC Bethesda should do would be to increase the stuff to explore and the species to discover, because right now, you fast start to stumble again and again on the same natural occurences or animals. Not cruising by yourself is already disheartening, but when you start finding recycling content after barely 3 hours of exploration, this is a real let down.
@neXib
@neXib 9 ай бұрын
Took me 4-5 days to see a lot of re-use, and then suddenly I saw lot of new stuff. So I think maybe you've been unlucky and it will change a bit. However, I support to get more, maybe expand with more outer planets with new systems. This game just screams for a good DLC.
@MN-vz8qm
@MN-vz8qm 9 ай бұрын
@@neXib Depends what you do, I found recycled content fast because I was playing an explorer/outpost manager. And I continue to find the same natural occurences again and again (plus new ones here and here). All flora tend to look the same too. If you can breathe, you'll see green forest for example 90% of the time.

The best encounter for me is the ship with gravity failing. It’s amazing strategizing and knowing that every 10-15 seconds the gravity will turn on or off. It also uses the gravity to explore parts of the ship that you can’t with gravity enabled. It was honestly amazing, there are also ships that have safes with loot secured by zero G doors, won’t go deep on explanations but good luck when finding these.

I'm on the fence with this one a little. Don't get me wrong I am enjoying it but I'm not sure how much longer I will play it actively. BG3 and Hunt Showdown are calling me again. It's difficult to put a finger on why this isn't geling as I thought it would, I find space combat a tedious experience that's probably a "me" issue though with only using an upgraded version of the starter ship. The leveling up of skills is a bit tedious also not sure if it's the way the skill trees are comprised but having to spend a great many points in a tree I have little interest in to get to aspects of ship upgrading and building/base building/weapon and suit upgrading, this grinds a little more than I'd want. Dunno it's a solid 7/10 game for me at the moment.

There is currently a small bug with surveying. F.e. it shows a Fauna missing and you are not able to find it because there a different areas which have an extension of (Coast). So although you have scanned f.e. Rocky Desert for 100% there is a Rocky Desert (Coast) also showing 100%. But you find the missing Fauna in the coast section. This goes for any other area. Resources only need to be scanned once each. More importantly, if you see part of the ground becomes highlighted by the scanner you can just scan the ground instead of trying to find an harvest-able object (rock/pool/vent/whatever). Also when you've surveyed a planet or moon, even if it's incomplete, you get a "survey data" item in your notes inventory which can be sold.

Planetary exploration feels underdeveloed, not because it's "empty" (I expected that, it's a more realistic brand of fiction), but because there is no real danger or engagement going on duration that exploration. They included an environmental hazard and suit protection system in the game, but IT DOESN'T DO ANYTHING MEANINGFUL. You get icons and alerts on your hud, your stat screens says your suit protection is depleted (however that works, who knows), but nothing happens to you, ever. There's a chance that once in a blue moon you MAY get an "affliction" if you stay in the planet too long, but this is a very low random chance, and those afflictions are 99% of the time something as stupid as 3% less max HP. Yeah... so, nothing. The system is in the game, it has moving parts, but it does nothing. I don't understand, it's like they put these survival systems in the game but turned them off by decreasing every number by 95% before launch, so they don't do anything.
@amysteriousviewer3772
@amysteriousviewer3772 9 ай бұрын
I think Bethesda just likes to add a bunch of shallow, underdeveloped systems to make it seem like their games are more complex than they are. Afflictions are the very definition of a completely superfluous feature that does not impact gameplay in any way whatsoever. I have never ever taken a cure for an affliction because I often didn’t even notice I had one. Addictions in Fallout actually impact your gameplay in some noticeable and sometimes even fun ways.

Curious about where you are finding these NPC encounters on surfaces that offer you missions. This only happened to me when I visited a civilian outpost, but never at a random landing site that’s procedurally generated… is your experience different than mine?
@fcf8269

They are randomly generated on planets. You need to jump on a system; scan the planets; that will show you the POI on each planet/moon; then land there and scan the POI and it depends what you find there, as you can find either a cave, an abandoned settlement, a pirate settlement or a peaceful settlement with quest givers.

Same. I keep running into the exact same caves and outposts with the same NPC's in the same spot with the same loot 20+ times on different planets. Nothing is unique in this game. And it's all fast travel with no exploring.

While there are a couple decent tips in this guide about using the ship's scanner, the overall experience of "exploration" in Starfield is extremely shallow and empty. Scanning planets is little more than pressing a button to reveal handful of boring points of interest that have all been seen hundreds of times before. There is virtually no reward or incentive to explore beyond the main storyline locations. Even the much-touted "surface encounters" amount to nothing more than a few repetitive enemy groups or lifeless landscapes to trudge between. No memorable characters, lively towns, or intriguing side stories to discover. The complete lack of any interesting "flora and fauna" perfectly sums up the dull, sterile procedurally generated content strewn across the thousands of samey planets. A handful of plants and animals copied and pasted endlessly is not exploration. Overall this guide only serves to highlight how little there actually is worth discovering in Starfield. No amount of tips can compensate for the total absence of meaningful, handcrafted content and life breathed into this so-called "main feature" of the game. True exploration it is not.

I do think this game is a bit of a slow starter but once you get going it's really good. I think it's completely blown Bethesda's previous stuff out of the water. I do think you are better avoiding most of the fast travel stuff as it's way more immersive that way.
@Cramblit
@Cramblit 9 ай бұрын
I wouldn't even begin to say it blows other titles out of the water.. It barely matches them to be honest.. NPCs don't have schedules.. Nearly every store is an empty shell inside with 1 shop NPC. 99% of every NPC is either a soulless drone walking to "fill space", or don't move from their positions at all ever, like we're playing Morrowind again back in 1998. The Settlement system is a joke compared to Fallout 4, massive step backwards. (Yes I understand it was overwhelming for some, but you don't need to simplify the mechanics AND remove 95% of them at the same time) The area's to explore on planets are the same 5 POIs copy pasted over and over and over... Only 2 enemy types.. Eclipse, or faceless "Spacers" None of this plays or feels like a true Bethesda game.. It plays like a literal Ubisoft "jump through the same 5 hoops" game. Land on planet, explore the same 5 POIs.. lift off, rinse repeat... Exploring the cities sucks.. There are no random buildings, or schedules to try to get around to loot houses.. there are no houses.. NPCs don't go to sleep.. it all feels so fucking STALE... Jump into a system.. EVERYTHING is around that 1 little jump in area... nothing to really explore in the system outside of that little jump in area... To say this game "blows other bethesda games out of the water" is such a weird take for such a bland stale game.

The biggest wasted opportunity of this game for exploration is to not use something like a minigame for scanning planets and moons, like Mass effect or Elite Dangerous. They could easily implement a small minigame to scan planets, like the one with the probe in Mass Effect 2; or the more complex one in Elite Dangerous, with the frequency search and spectrogram. That would add a lot of fun, although this is a RPG and not a simulator to be fair

I'm glad people are enjoying it, but I am having trouble getting past the mediocre voice acting and the robotic, souless NPCs that Bethesda just cant seem to evolve out of. Then the exploration fell flat for me when i did enough to realize there are only a handful of structures that are copy/pasted right down to every enemy, container, and decoration. I knew it wasnt going to be Star Citizen or Baldurs Gate, but what surprised me was just how much it made me think about and appreciate Cyberpunk. The classic Bethesda snap zoom, stone faced, good enough voice acted conversations just don't cut it anymore.

I'm only about 20 hours into Starfield but my jury is looking to be hung. I loved Oblivion and Skyrim (even created mods for them) and Fallout was nice (the first one), but the menu mechanics in Starfield have taken a massive step backwards into obfuscation and wildly unnecessary complexity. Every other Bethesda game has gotten massive UI mods from "amateurs" that make the games actually fun to play - why hasn't Bethesda learned anything from the mod community? Deciphering the menu system should not be treated as a game skill you have to spend time mastering. I had the usual run of bugs (NPCs flashing around like.. the Flash) and a few crashes on launch, but it's playable. The story line, so far, is pretty bland but it does lead you into all the game mechanics (unfortunately.) Space travel sucks. I wouldn't mind the click-and-arrive so much if you could just find the damn click without wading through 5 screens. I may just set the game aside until the official mod tools are released and the game that Starfield wants to be emerges.

At the moment I don't feel anything "new" with Starfield, it feels like I've played it before, feels like that was 10 years ago or so.... aka... as yet I feel Starfield hasn't brought anything new to my game playing. Too many odd "cut scenes" and some elements of the interface are odd too.
