This is what happens when your studios engine they use is decades old with new code taped ontop of old code (like halo infinite engine) add to this the game has to also play on series s, the game is handicapped. Bethesda really needs to let go of this shit engine, they need better technology in terms of how the game looks and how it plays. Had this game been a PS5 exclusive made by say Gorilla Games, just based on their technology alone I'm sure we'd have been able to take off and land, with minimized loading screens and no tiles with minimized barriers, the graphics would've been much better. In other words Bethesda needs to update alot of their studio, engine, and make an important choice to make games just for xsx and PC, and let go of xss, unfortunately the xss is the better selling of both skus, so I think MS won't allow it.

"Why can't you call people and tell them you're done?" - It's a time sink. I was thinking of this with the "lockpicking." At least in Skyrim and FO, there was some level of player "skill" and having a soft touch to not break your lock picks. As you got incrementally better, you actually had more wiggle room on easier locks, maintaining the physical gameplay aspect but making it slightly easier until simple locks could be picked in moments. Here, there's rings and improving your skill gives you access to harder locks (more rings to resolve) but there's no way to improve on the easier locks you've already been picking... and the mechanic is boring... so picking locks is just... a time sink. It extends the amount of time you spend with the game.

I have completed many hours 6days 13hrs in StarField and the one thing that really annoys me is the very lacking responses to questions your character has. Take example Hope Tec. One, why is a deputy left to make a massive decision for the end of this quest, shouldn’t that be the decision for the Sheriff or the Governors. Two after you made the decision the lack of dialogue when your crew mates are grilling you for an explanation, my character shouldn’t be subjected to this interrogation without have the essential response’s needed to explain there decision. Not some scripted dialogue that makes your character out to be the villain. This is only one example. Sarah says “Turn him over to the Marshal Blake” . Shame your character doesn’t get that choice and it ends in a gun fight (sorry Spoiler) . This is one of the examples I have found throughout this game. The scripted dialogue choices remind me nothing more than the lack of and the pathetic responses V has in Cyberpunk. Total let down through the whole of StarField.

It feels like they saw the issues with Skyrim, like how you were literally the head of every single major faction besides the Empire or Stormcloaks, so they took a step back, made you insignificant and subordinate, and yet gave you significant final decisions even when there are people far more qualified and educated in the room. The lack of foresight for the stories is just disappointing. My loathing for Starfield comes from the deepest part of a heart that loves BGS games. This game is.. mid AF. I'm gonna shelve it, come back in a few years when it's complete (this first DLC is obvious cut content and we all need to call Bethesda out on it) and modders have done their thing. I think it's going to be an incredible game, eventually. Right now it's just a shallow insult.

What's funny is that I agree with a lot of points in this video but disagree with your conclusion. Oblivion still holds up today, not because of its gameplay (which is very dated) but because of its quest and world design. So many of its quests and characters are memorable and intriguing. Rarely does a quest play out as you imagined it. You'll be sent into a cave to clear out goblins only to discover that there's a lich down there, or someone's uncle backstabbed them, and they want help getting revenge. Starfield, on the other hand, lacks weight in its questlines. There's no grit or texture to the characters, their associated questlines, or the game at large. I've played some 60 hours and have yet to see anything that will stick with me. I haven't gotten my "welcome to the arena," Megaton, Caesar, or "where the hell am I?" Morrowind moment. Nothing is sticking out to me as memorable. I fear that Bethesda has lost its bite in fear of upsetting people.

Ive been playing it for 3 days now. My impressions are as follows: Great looking, fantastic interior designs, especially spaceships, laboratories, buildings,..etc Great graphics, excellent interactions with NPCs (facial expressions, voiceovers..etc) negative points so far: The game just doesnt feel like an RPG.. You cant really make your first ship special and a home. There is nothing to interact with in your ship. All you can do is fly and sit.. This is such a waste of opportunity. Companions feel completely lackluster and void of personality. At least, I just tried out one companion, a weapon specialist. No gore, no true violence.. Very mild violence. Player is too much of an errand boy, the dialogue options dont give us the option to reply as a truly scumbag like in New Vegas.. Very disappointing. Most of the time the options are so average.. NPCs/citicens feel very lackluster in cities.. Even in Skyrim NPCs felt much more alive when interacting with each other.. In Starfield, they all look very weird, a very high proportion of the NPCs are africans with caucsian hair and russian accent and chinese accent.. I think something just went wrong with the coding there.. Overall its a good game.. Otherwise I wouldnt be playing it for hours non stop.

I've put over 10000 hours into bethesda titles over the decades, morrowind being my favorite game of all time. So I yearned for starfield to be at least enjoyable like an addict wanting a fix, but it's clearly not a good product. Also,18 hours is more than enough to have an informed opinion. The issues with starfield are quite clear even within the first hour and only become more reinforced as you progress. It's not fo76 levels of failure, but it's certainly their worst singleplayer rpg to date. I HIGHLY suggest to everyone who loves rpgs to wait 6+ months, grabbing it on sale. Wait for the modding community to forge starfield into greatness, just as they have done for prior titles.

The amount of people that try and defend Starfield by saying "it gets good 15+ hours in" aren't making the point they are thinking they are... Like that's A LOT of time to sink into something (especially for $70/$100 depending on edition) before it actually becomes enjoyable. I would say virtually all games that are super memorable and timeless are interesting very early on. Even Bethesda's own great games from the past were like this. Skyrim for me is their best vanilla experience they've created. You start the game trying to avoid a motherfucking dragon. Like that's cool as fuck. But in Starfield you touch a rock... and you are given a whole ass ship, weapons, and a personal robot companion by people you don't know... If the game is so interesting, why does it take SO long to show me that it's interesting? Why does it do nothing to help steer me towards the interesting parts of the game, rather than consistently pushing me down paths that highlight the most boring and basic aspects of the gameplay loop? I think a lot of people were really hoping the best for this game and wanted a win, but just can't cope that what we got was just more of the same and Bethesda is exactly the same as these other low effort AAA studios.

@@gamble777888 exactly. More than that I think people are just tired of the formula. It's basically fallout 4 with a coat of paint and space ships. The ship building is the only real innovation and even that is just building up on the systems already created for fallout 4. There hasn't been any real fundamental ground broken since Skyrim was released. And EVEN THEN it was mostly just evolutions of systems that already existed And yeah it was great, 20 years ago. But to come out with starfield after years of talking it up like it was gonna be the game of the generation. Todd Howard literally said the next Skyrim. And he meant it was gonna be the next grand masterpiece that would take the world by storm the way Skyrim did. People love to bash it now. But in 2011 every tom dick and harry who remotely enjoyed high fantasy RPGs, video games, or the elder scrolls was nutting in their pants. And what we got was.... Skyrim the formula. In space, with meh graphics loading screens disguised as space travel. And limits. It's still a good game. But by every measurable metric it's really just more of the same. Andthat was not what was promised. It wasn't even nominated for game of the year. That's how fucking far Bethesda has fallen. Like honestly if you ask me as a long time ES can. And a guy who's firmly on PlayStation these days, nah. They can have it. After the shit they pulled with 76 and then selling out to Microsoft. If you are a fan of Gopher than you might understand that Bethesda games like Skyrim, Fallout and now Starfield require a longer time to level up your character to open up MORE options, to you. People spend 1000+ hours in these games and that doesn't compute to younger players. Most were raised on 40 hours of hand-holding games then move on to the next. Another fact to know is the first (Bethesda game like these) version is the WORST version. Bethesda most always gets community feedback THEN make patches to fix certain issues. Also, Modding (mostly for PC players) is very good. If you cannot dedicate a good 100+ hours (or level 90) to improve melee. gunplay, ship modifications, Outpost building, better research and the type of gameplay that most "one and done" games. This game will prove to be MUCH better the farther into it. It is a proper strategy and promotes exploration and replayability. I believe you will come back later once everyone has uncovered MORE of the Story. Otherwise reviewing this game NOW is way too early, IMHO. Glad you got that out of your system.

I actually like Bethesda's game formula but It really only works for TES and Fallout games as seen with Starfield and I think it could still work for TES6 so long as they don't mess up the melee and magic.
@Jangocat Жыл бұрын
It's a 20+ year old game engine, it doesn't work at all in 2023 let alone when TES6 eventually comes out. Every weird bug you saw in Oblivion is present in Starfield.

I agree that starfield is a bad game. Even excluding the storyline and writing - which actually isn't bad for a Bethesda bug fest so far, which is an absolutely pleasant surprise - the bulk of the game so far is fetch quests, interspersed with loading screens, slowed down gameplay due to menu animations, and the worst overall menu system in the world which isn't consistent! Different modules for ship builder? Q and T. Different modules for hab construction? oh right! Q and T - I know this! Wait, why isn't that working? Z and C? er what? Q and T now cycles left right? which was a different combination for the ship builder? what? who designed THAT? Carry capacity and inventory management isn't fun. Vendors don't have enough credits, which just enforces running around everywhere to different vendors (probably marketed as "exploration"?). Mods will absolutely improve things, and patching might improving things too - especially related to performance on PC. Assuming that they actually release performance improvements - after Todd's SHOCKING statement that people should just "upgrade their machines". Sure, some people absolutely will have to - but even people with really good rigs are having performance issues. Todd, that's not a hardware problem, that's a programming one. I have hopes it'll get better. But my expectations are it won't. Until Todd sells it for the 4th release edition in 2027.

Bethesda is creatively bankrupt. If not even Starfield forced them to create something fro mthe ground up, all hopes of that happening with ES6 are gone

I paid $30 to play it early - in the end I uninstalled and went back to Skyrim - can’t believe it’s a game that took 7 years to make.
@brokendreamchaser399 Жыл бұрын
The game loop and mechanics wasn’t 7 years in development, only the hand crafting cities the designs item placements etc, and all the quests they needed people for to record their voice. Think the spaceship builder took also long to develop since it is so advanced in options

Thank you for doing this. We need more voices of negativity out there that compound their points with substance. Sadly, though, I doubt BGS will do much to pay attention.

I liked it at first, but after 10 or so hours, it's shit plain and simple. It's so boring and generic that it feels like AI spit this game out.
@Falicon Жыл бұрын
Gaining powers by walking to a temple with no enemies, floating around and grabbing 'light distortions' -> No sense of danger/chills/wow Ai on enemies -> Yes it's pretty ridiculous...they turn their backs to you, can't see you sometimes...its strange Everyone feels campy and friendly like we are playing Disney Land in the space The powers don't really enhance the gameplay, because the AI on the enemies don't really require you to use them We've been telling Zenimax and Bethesda for about 9 years now that we'd enjoy better written products with a real sense of danger and belonging to the world, but they haven't hit the nail on the head with Starfield. They really need to make peace with the writers (writers strike) and get their products back on track. It feels like another unfinished game or perhaps a filler game once again. This will be filler game number 4 now....(Fallout Shelter, Fallout 76, Elder Scrolls Online). We'll see how they manage updates and possibly DLC, but I hope the game won't be 'quality locked behind DLC'.

To be fair, 2 of those games are for different markets (casual/mobile and MMO) but I think we all should have realized with 76 that something is wrong at Bethesda Tho I did have a lot of fun playing 76 with my wife

I'm about 20 hours in and I enjoy it. I would give it an 8/10. I feel like it could move up to a 9 with some updates/improvements.

I would love a space exploration game where you could really fly to a well crafted planet and land the ship by myself (maybe with selectable landing spots). The landing process should be a minigame in an animated loading screen where you must adjust the balance, direction and speed of the ship in varying weather and environment conditions. With the possibility to fail! And arrive on planets with interesting and dangerous extraterrestrial lifeforms and plantlife. Thats a spacegame I would pay money for
@Zodroo_Tint Жыл бұрын
This is what Star Citizen wanted to be before they became a scam. Games like this will not be made for decades. They could but it would not make as much money as a mediocre AAA product ever. So the only way to make it if an independent with the help of an AI will make it.

I effectively got it free via Game Pass and got fed up with it after 10-12 hours. I've gone back to No Man's Sky, even though it isn't as pretty. Also, you can't go flying through an asteroid field, enter a planet's atmosphere, and skim across the surface like you can in No Man's Sky. It's a cut scene. I was really disappointed the first time I took off on Starfield.

Personally, I think Starfield is a massive disappointment, 5 / 10. What has me amused are the legions of Bethesda fanboys who come out of the woodwork with their "10/10 masterpiece" nonsense. Seriously, people are delusional. Bethesda are only capable of producing the same game they've been producing for the last 20 years, there's no innovation, no pushing forward. I guess for some, that's all they want?
