Literally just discovered your channel this morning and subbed! Love your nuanced and intelligent takes on Starfield. It’s a welcomed change from the deluge of lazy “Starfield BAD!” content KZbin is plagued with. I don’t mind watching content that is critical, Im critical of this game, BUT what sets many creators apart is the ability to articulate and critique a game intelligently. I like that you articulate in detail what works and what doesn’t, being constructive with your opinions.

Totally agree with you, the Rav-8 is really fun to drive and makes exploring much easier. If now Bethesda could make the world tiles bigger or add a new tile every time you arrive at a border that would be great. And the Escape mission was certainly worth the 5 bucks for me, contrary to the Vulture mission. But of course, selling mission by mission as they do for the moment is not the way Bethesda should go for the future.

The only problem is npcs will move the buggy when walking passed like it doesn't exist even with you in it, and it stops way too fast. The escape mod is awesome, I love the horror aspect to it, and if you ng+ always knock it out for great early game loot.

I’ve only come across one new bug since this update: for whatever reason, the weapon workbench sinks into the floor on ships, making it obstructed when attempting to use it and thus it is unusable. I noticed this, because I was modifying two Derretech pre-built ships to remove the bugs that currently undermine his designs. I was successful in that endeavor, but I can no longer use weapon workbenches on ships. The only thing I’ve heard others state is that Bethedsta patched a ship part glitch, which angered them greatly. There’s already solutions to that tho. Thus far, the update has been a welcome improvement. The mini side quest “Escape” was fun albeit short. With Shattered Space, it’s my hope - and the hope of others - that new caves, buildings, and structures are added to planets to provide the player with more to explore and do. At this point, Bethedsta’s main goal should be filling these barren planets up. By doing so, it will go from an okay game to a relatively great game. I hope I can now complete the Crimson Fleet missions, because prior to this update, several were broken with bugs, preventing me from completing them.

I feel like stuff that is just a few new weapon textures or one outfit/weapon should be 100 credits (I doubt anything will be priced below 100), and then Trackers Alliance/Quest Mods should be priced no more than 300. I wish instead of the water cooled miner outfit for 400 credits, they did a bunch of new outfits for 400. I feel like there isn't that much customization you can do for your outfits, like there are outfits I really like but they aren't in the right color or have the wrong faction symbols on them for roleplaying. I really wish the First Cavalry outfit could be customized to have UC or standard Freestar insignias instead of the "1" on it.

I've also got a personality of a collector, so I "have" to have everything otherwise it feels incomplete. It's related to OCD. However, if I spend moneyh on this nonsense, I feel dirty, wrong and bad for spending money on it. So I just avoid games with this crap in it.

Bethesda definitely trying to price anchor people. Notice how Bethesda's mods are pretty consistently more expensive than the creator's mods. Too bad there isn't a grav plate in the back of the vehicle, although I guess letting your payload scatter across the landscape after a boost can be diverting. I wonder if you can throw a bunch of grenades in the back, jump, and scatter them everywhere before they explode :) I haven't played a Bethsoft game since Skyrim so the creation store is new to me... Not really into the idea, but I wonder if it was a subscription model instead, one price for access to it all, if it might encourage more modding (if they get some sort of cut I guess) and make individual mods feel less like a content tax
@ToeMcTaggins4 ай бұрын
Bethesda's mods are of better quality, especially on console. I want to support the paid modders but if they can't guarantee that the mod they sell works and won't break the game then yeah let's go, but I'm not paying for less quality and more bugs in a BGS game. Example the Darkstar mods are free and well crafted, the author has amazing support for his mods and all of then add so much for FREE. When he adds a paid mod it could be crap, and I'd pay because he's given so much to my play through for free. Also, the BGS creations are all achievement friendly and enhance vanilla play
@theitechlab3 ай бұрын
The quality of the mods is a big thing for me as well. I like getting achievements, and BGS-created quests in Creation Club don't disable achievements, and I can typically guarantee they won't break once an update drops. Plus, they are of a higher quality (voice acting, unique weapons) and mesh with the lore of the universe, so I don't have to worry about someone adding a character or location in that isn't really part of the universe BGS created. I know that modders are very talented and am not downplaying them in any way, but the stuff from BGS tends to be what I look for over unofficial quests that disable achievements/break the lore and may not function properly. I do wish the prices were lower, but I think that the new "Escape" CC questline looks really good, especially factoring in the ship and unique items/weapons you can get.
@wasteexplorer11333 ай бұрын
couple days late but I do want to comment on the sore point that is bethesda and some of their mods costing money... On one hand I do genuinely agree some of the price points for certain content is outrageously overpriced and need to be tweaked while others are more acceptable... great example being the stark contrast between "The Vulture" and "Escape" quests in their quality to price point... Specifically seeing as "The Vulture" being 700 credits and made solely to naturally introduce (according to todd howard in the MrMattyPlays interview) what was just originally a weapon and outfits pack and wanting to do more compared to just being place into the world with no lore or story... Like the starborn suit being placed in your constellation room which you can obtain at the beginning of the game with no cost to the player or the mind bafflingly priced 400 credits Water-Cooled Miners Outfit which is also placed with no lore or story at deimos mining quarters... Now when you contrast that quality with the "Escape" quest which has multiple endings and choices with neat secrets and puzzles with also unique rewards for those who are smart enough/pay attention enough to find them (or use a guide) all for the price of 500 credits which I for one and so has many online say thats a really good and fair price... it shows they are learing although still with some "growing pains" and as todd howard mentioned in his interview, that I mentioned up above, that large in part these creations help subsidize the continued support on their games for much longer compared to their past games and as a prime example has allowed them to keep on making free expanions and updates for the fallout 76 community via the atomic shop subidizing the majority of the costs of doing so... So while I understand the sentiment towards they should make all of their creations free and refund the spent credits to go solely towards the freelance devs/modmakers I think it would be an ultimately short sighted endeavor as it would force bethesda to move on quickly (as many people are wanting in hoping for... *Stares longingly in the distances for ES6*) and abandon further support of the game after cranking out a few expansions and disincentivize releasing free updates with content like the rev-8... Thanks for reading my TED Talk and inb4 too long didn't read or too much yap comments lol...

even the stuff the modders put out is a way too expensive like one gun for 5$ is crazy i think they should curate the modders stuff more if bethesda combined all the things they have made into one dlc i think that would be ok but as it is it just doesn't have the value it would also be cool if they combined atoms with creation credits so you could unlock stuff by playing fallout 76 i don't think they would ever do that but it would make me play 76 again but this would also give people another incentive to get fallout first personally i hate fallout first

I'm relatively new to Starfield, I bought the game on the last Steam Summer Sale and I'm still milking out my first play through. I played the game for around three weeks before the vehicles came out and I have to say I'm underwhelmed. I agree with your point that it doesn't solve the root problem of travel and exploration simply not being interesting, only faster. I'm doing my best to give the game a fair shake, I hated my first play through of Fallout 4 and now it's the game with the highest playtime on my account and that's mostly because of survival mode and the amazing mod community. I share your concerns about Bethesda charging for quest content, it only serves to breed distrust of the creation store which will hurt modders in at least the short term. I don't have an issue paying for well crafted content coming from the community but overall the modding community doesn't seem to enjoy actually making mods for Starfield. Cumbersome support and tools are a common complaint but more than that the sentiment is that the game just isn't fun enough to put the effort into. Rather than milking cash from the community for quest content they should be focused on filling in all the blank design space they launched the game with and empowering the modders to aid with that goal.

The planets didn’t change because they are not procedurally generated for you. They were procedurally created but they are static for the player. I found the Rev-8 to be more Bethesda FU to the players. It is slow, if it goes fast too long the engine can't keep up. On many planets it is a major source of frustration. In real life NASA put multiple vehicles on the moon and they trekked around with little issue. Stick the Rev-8 on the moon and wow...people in the future have no idea of traction control or speed control. Instead you are stuck spinning about uncontrollably on several planets. And why can't the survivalist we save hop in back? Or if we have Vasco he hops in the passenger seat...lame that we leave him running to catch up with no support...wow, some rescue.

Nice video, I appreciate your balanced take on the game. Personally, I don't mind the paid Bethesda mods. Are they a great value? Not really. But the game is already complete without them, with hundreds of hours of content. And there will undoubtedly be an anniversary edition that bundles the majority of them up. If you're a super fan like me who's already played hundreds of hours of Starfield, you probably don't mind chucking a few extra bucks at them for a couple more hours of high-quality content every once in a while. On top of that, Starfield is still one of the most modded games on the Nexus, meaning there's a whole ecosystem of free mods available outside of Bethesda's Creations shop, too.
