You summarised the problem with the writing really well! It has ruined the game for me, especially with subsequent playthroughs which just highlights the bad writing more and more.

In my initial Universe I had Sarah as my companion throughout the whole run and we married. Entered the unity and we lost each other. Fast forward to my 8th universe the emissary was Sarah. I sided with her against the Hunter and after beating him she said "it felt like in the old times"...

I guess the German ship perched on the side of a mountain may have been a clue? A boat run aground on a mountain is pretty reminiscent of Noah's Ark. Not sure how to explain the thing teleporting them to Shanghai, though.

I’ve always loved how the Indiana Jones movies, books, comics, etc have been a place to have fun with the “what ifs” of History. Many of my students notice patterns when we study the ancient world, and the true answers (while fascinating and impressive) always felt like they could use a key puzzle and doomsday device element. Which is why pseudoscience is so popular, I would imagine!

Ubisoft is over hated af, they makes amazing games even for low budget pc like mine (I can play almost all far cry games, watchdogs and so with my no graphics card buggy laptop). Yes they maybe have some weird business decisions and some games are washed up but in general they make amazing games, with excellent graphics and good optimization, at least with they most known titles

15:00 - 15:09 I _heavily_ disagree with this statement, there is almost NOTHING Starfield does better than other games, even looking at its strongest points. I _guarantee_ the game in the development stage wasn't "fun" until the ship design and combat features were completed. And they don't _need_ to do _everything_ perfectly, but what they do _attempt_ should be focused and polished. All the things Starfield does well are offshoots of things that Bethesda has been building for DECADES but they feel the need to jam as much procedural generation into their tired engine and "keep it simple stupid", so simple in fact that everything feels so... well stupid (look up the video by "ItsYaBoyBrandyBoy" if you want to see just how ROYALY they screwed up the guns). I know its sci-fi (same argument for fantasy) but half of that fiction is SCIENCE! And when it feels like almost none of the fundamental concepts of this universe, at its core _our_ universe, were thought through for more than a DAY. Let alone a lot of characters/quest writing being outright contradictive (seriously, I ran into this issue a lot) I struggle to find the good ANYWHERE in this universe.

My main issue with Starfield is that I HATE what it _is_ now, how it handles its core themes and gameplay, its fundamental worldbuilding, most of the characterization and writing, all of it. Without a major re-wright and fundamental re-design of nearly EVERYTHING in this dead-end universe, it will forever be the final nail in Bethesdas coffin for me. I _so_ wish there were a secret "true" ending where we END the unity, stopping the early destruction of Earth due to one man that wanted humanity to "reach the stars" WHEN THEY WERE ALREADY DOING THAT! Humanity is stubborn, we _will_ persevere, the ECS Constant practically _proves_ that. I want them to pull the current game from the shelves and _start_ _over_ again, they've said it themselves, they view the game itself as the "design document" and it shows. This game, more than ANY other Bethesda game, feels incomplete. It barely feels like a Beta version of a _real_ AAA game, I expected _so_ _much_ more from them and what they gave us feels the same level as "insulting" as the Star Wars sequel trilogy. How did they not anticipate people wanting to decorate their ships and control the layout of the interior. Seriously, the ship interior design feels like randomly generated space dungeons instead of a _vehicle_ _meant_ _to_ _transport_ _people_ and some have the _longest_ pathways from door to chair. They are, and have been, _aggressively_ monetizing their fans passion and I find what they've turned into disgusting. I would LOVE for someone to point out the good to me, and how I'm wrong about what I think is the bad, because I am _genuinely_ struggling to find it.

I've watched a few breakdowns on Veilguard's writing issues, but this one makes the most sense to me. I always felt like my emotional reactions were being managed like a toddler in a house with overprotective parents who had gone through the trouble of padding every edge and corner with foam. And it's possible they did this with the best intentions. Maybe they listened to player feedback and people said "I didn't like it in the story when this happened" and instead of saying "yeah, you're not supposed to like it" they said "ok, well then we won't do that". Overly cautious.

im not too bothered that this game didn't give us a proper explanation on the creators / makers of the unity. if we are to assume that starfield is the third IP in the vein of fallout and elder scrolls, then we will probably get another one in the future that expands on things more while having different core gameplay. honestly i wouldn't mind a title that is more grounded on a single planet or single system.

Yeah not interested in a full reboot, if it doesn't have the right feel then it's not fable just a new game with the fable name slapped on it. Also i don't see us getting a char creator since the main char is modeled after a real person, so no doubt they want her to be the only main char.

David Gaider, who was a narrative lead for Dragon Age before leaving BioWare in 2016, said in a Twitter thread that writers at the developer became "quietly resented" and were seen as an "albatross." The points in the writing you bring up, I believe, come from this. I remember one of the team members in the development stating that he didn't like roleplay aspects in game and I thought, "then why the hell is he working at building an RPG?" He sounded so disdainful about having a story that was important. I wish I could remember his name! Did anyone else see that clip of the guy saying this? The developers didn't want gripping story. They put their money on game mechanics instead that would cross platforms easily.

So the devs tried something different to change things up & some of the fans got upset? Familiar story.... 😂 A modder, 510deshawn, put the guns from this game into starfield. I highly recommend "Project Warfare Hardened". Weapons appear on enemies, can be modified at the workbench, & really fit starfield's aesthetic.

I agree that the dialogue sabotages the story and takes the edge of the moment, your example was really on the spot. And the lack of friction really bothers me. It's all so... tame. I can barely disagree, even less argue, not even snap at them. This is a group of people risking their lives to take down TWO GODS or the ENTIRE WORLD gets torn to shreds. That should be an extremely stressful situation. And getting people to get along is difficult even under normal circumstances. Not to mention that people in the world around me should not just take my word for it that two elven god have escaped from beyond the veil. There should be much more friction and the whole thing should be questioned much more both within the team and outside of it. The reviewer who describe it as an HR meeting was correct. I also felt like the game was attempting to force me to care about various things it simply did not help me care about, including certain team members. It really felt like it was trying to force an emotional connection that wasn't there because the writing hadn't made me engaged enough to form an emotional connection to begin with. There is snippets of good dialogue in there and the main stoy is not bad in itself, but BW fumbled especially with companion dialogue because even though the game is decent I just don't care what happens to Dock Town, I don't care what happens to Neve, I'm really not interested in the game's attempt to force me to care about Jacobus or Tarquin or Strife and I don't think anybody is stressed enough about being the only shield that stands between two insanely overpowered gods and the end of the world as we know it.

This is why I enjoyed the interactions with Solas. At least there you could be mean and disagree with him, and then he would Snark right back. That’s what was missing with the companions . What I noticed most was the repetition. Repeated phrases by characters and even Solas was victim of this. And unnecessary words. Like when he says “if there was some other better option,” to Varric at the very beginning. Other better option? And also tenuous connection. He mentions those same exact words twice. It’s just so sloppy, and dumbs the character down.

I have played though like 14 ng+ and never realized that the bank hostages are invincible, I always tried very carefully to take the robbers all out before a shot was fired if I went in using a time slowing ability or just being stealthy and fast. This kinda stuff is what I really dislike about this game the more I uncover how much they refuse to let you even have an option to fail a mission like this. It wouldn't be the end of the world if you failed the rescue. You could still progress the story with losing a hostage, maybe the freestar collective just more resultantly lets you join. Or they don't let you join and it's something you can come back to in NG+ or just reload a save if it's so devastating to fail a mission. Not letting you lose the game makes the game meaningless.
