Jaye Davidson was great in this role. Aside from the already known old story of the 1 million dollar request and difficulties with the actor on set i read a recent interview with the Director where he states that Davidson was actually having problems with drugs and that all hell broke loose when his assistant stole them. Dead Devlin (the writer) also said that Jaye Davidson thanked him for not cutting him out of the movie. In this same interview i was surprised to know that originally and during filming RA wasn't supposed to be an alien but a human that reigned over the slaves on behalf of the aliens, they later made him into an alien and added the eyes and deep voice to make him scarier. It's weird, they must have also made additional scenes since Daniel Jackson in the movie clearly explains RA's origin

Jackson is sitting fully which is more indicative of somebody who's not immediately preparing to do something. Remember Ra was truly powerful and unique in that he did the unthinkable thought to be impossible and managed to occupy the body of an Asgard named Famrir. The host was in fact a much older Asgard (we saw the kind in an Asgard laboratory that the Goauld had found and was being protected by an Asgard scientist and SG1with the help of 3 Asgard mother ships got the body and laboratory data out of.the hands of Amubis) had not yet reached the cell and dna degradation that ultimately destroyed the Asgards ability to clone to live longer. Ra's time with Famrir although short he managed to learn a great deal of information. Wether it was shared amongst the System Lords is unknown but unlikely given that Ra ruled differently using human slaves as warriors instead of the Jaffa. We don't know exactly how he enhanced ther longevity and strength but his 2 personal warriors whom he seemed to give something through his hand device they then did not age over at least 50 years following the deception of Aset who governed Abydos in Ra's absence. Very much different in her views towards humanity she was relative kind to those on abydos but unfortunately she committed the greatest sin for the Goauld and gave life to a Harcesis Child (A harcesis is a child born from two Goa'uld hosts. This is considered forbidden by the Goa'uld System Lords because the Goa'uld genetic memory is passed down to the offspring, making the child a threat. (Goa'uld reproduce their own kind asexually spawned from a queen.) When he discovered this after Aset was betrayed Ra destroyed the Temple of Aset and built a great pyramid inside which the Stargate would reside using to being humans from earth to work in the mines. He was truly revered as a God to the people of Abydos. He was truly a God and unlike the lower Goauld I think he believed it to! And of course his voice, his eyes his style and how he lived his daily life was absolutely that of a God!

01:52 O'Neils eye contact to Ra was intense, but subtle. He's looking at a being that could pose a threat to Earth, and somehow probably knows underneath its human-shell theres something ancient, highly intelligent that has sinister plans. 01:55 this look from Ra pretty much confirms O'Neils assessment. It already can sense the apprehension and unease that O'Neil gets, and is the leading figure of the SG crew who bought the nuke to kill Ra. While Ra acknowledges O'Neil as the leader, isn't threatened or even worried, more like intriguied by what O'Neils gonna do next to stop him. Ra probably recognises that the humans of Earth have come along way in technology and science, and would sooner fight than bow to him or see him as a god, like the inhibitants at Apidopose or humans on earth from the past. It was this moment that cemented the war between Ra's race and humanity. One which seeks freedom. Another that seeks utter domination, submissions and unquestuined obiedence.

I think it was more he was curious about Daniel. I'm sure after thousands of years he had no illusions that the workers who rebelled against him would still worship him. But, Daniel clearly didn't belong with the rest of the team and he seemed to know more. Though it is interesting that it does appear that after killing the others (had he gone through with it) Ra seemed content to let Daniel live. He came off as being amused by Daniel...at least until Daniel fermented and ruined Ra's day.

@thedoveston67819 ай бұрын
He wasn't. The Asgard weren't even conceived at this point. The glowing eyes and Ra's own words that our bodies are so easy to repair make it clear that he is another entity inhabiting a human body. The bomb exploding in his face was meant to show that he wasn't what he appeared to be; a glompse of his true form. Grey Aliens are probably the most famous depiction of ET life so they went with that. They were even the antagonists in the X-Files, which was at the height of its popularity at the time, and one of the first popular shows to depict them as actively hostile towards humanity. They probably just went with whatever most viewers would recognise and retconned them as benevolent later on.

I got introduced to Stargate through watching SG-1 episodes with my dad, when I was in kindergarten. I am not from an English speaking country, back then my dad had to patiently read me the subtitles to understand. It was our bonding experience. I watched the movie when I was in highschool. It is, indeed, more intelligent than the series. I do like it WAAAY more, but the series itself still has a special place in my heart despite its flaws. Sentimentality over logic, if you will.

That is why Ra is determined to make Daniel submit himself and to kill his companions to prove to the rest of the people his power is absolute or they would doubt his power and stop worshipping him. O'Neill hesitates because of his guilt for the death of his son. To Ra they're just servants that are willing to die for him. He seems more amused at O'Neill than anything else. I doubt he counted on O'Neil not killing children. O'Neill was willing to activate the bomb which would have killed him, his team and all the Abydonians (including the children in the villages). Also have to remember before the series Ra was suppose to be a alien that managed to transfer his body (consciousness) and possess another body. This method was energy-based, and in the scene where he presumably dies, he is literally shedding his human shell. In the novelization, the alien does this because he intended to escape and be able to take another host. SG-1 (the series) had planned to bring Ra back but they decided to go a different route and before the show was cancelled Ra was planned to be resurrected by his cult of followers and continued to reconquer the galaxy with the rest of his kind, Jaffa and accompanied by another race that he enslaved aka the furlings (no they're not koala bears in this version).

@Daniel Fernandez you do realize the alien is only impersonating Ra and is not the mythological Ra. The aliens of his race are called ghoul and they view themselves as gods

Anyone tell you Ra you could pass for an earthling chick. At least a transtestacle human. Wait a minute!! Ra why are you surrounded by half naked native boys?? Hmmm the Micheal Jackson of the galaxy. Didn’t Michael Jackson also make a music video dressed up as Ra? Interesting!!!

Note their braids? They wear the Princely Lock/Braid. Those are his sons, each of them future Pharohs for the many planets under his direct domain to rule as a mortal extension/representative of Amun Ra. With otherworldly education, supremely superior technology, and Ra's experience as explorer, scientist, warrior, leader, and ruler over a vast empire that spanned across the stars themselves , this would no lead to very wise guidance for the offspring he could actually trust enough to rule on his behalf. Also, the climate is more or less Egypt. Very hot. If you want that kind of monster, check out Caligula's predecessor.

You would hate being in anciet Egypt then. The men looked very feminine. It's was a copying of the gods creation theory.
