CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Landry (Beau Bridges) tells the soldiers who they are in this timeline and that they will not be allowed to change back the altered timeline.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The Stargate saga continues as an elite military unit races back to Earth following the mysterious disappearance of two key team members, only to find themselves in an alternate reality where the Stargate has never been invented. Somewhere in deep space, the SG-1 team is in serious trouble. Two team members have vanished without a trace, and now the SG-1 unit's only hope for survival is to get back to Earth as quickly as possible. Upon touching down the team is relieved to be home, but deeply disturbed to learn that the reality they just returned to isn't the same one they departed from. In this reality, the Stargate has never been discovered and neither the government nor the military has never even heard of the SG-1 unit. But who altered the Earth's timeline, and why? Upon discovering that a malevolent alien known as Ba'al has been meddling with the planet's timeline in an attempt to conquer Earth, the team must race against time to defeat the most powerful adversary that they have ever faced.

The best line of this scene (possibly the whole movie): Landry: "I assume in your timeline you're not a discredited wackjob living on the fringes of society" Daniel: "Well, that really depends on who you ask"

For me, it’s that very last line “Supposed to be, is Relative, Dr Jackson.” Cause the General is right. If it wasn’t for what the three of the new know is about to happen, they have no right to change anything in this timeline

@@commandercritic9036 The Jackson line is better IMO purely for the amusement factor, but the overall quandry IS an interesting one. It's easy as the viewer to say SG-1s timeline is "good" because we know earth doesn't get invaded/enslaved by the Goauld and are better equipped to handle intergalactic issues. But one thing that's glossed over is how would Colonel O'neill (for example) REALLY feel if given the option (even if we're talking the Jack O'neill of their ORIGINAL timeline)? Because on the one hand earth is better off in SG-1s original timeline, BUT Jack's son is NOT dead in this timeline. Obviously it's outside the scope of the movie, but would be interesting to consider how many people fare "better" in this timeline.

@@gregsimoes8645 completely agree, and the last part of your comment is why, for me at least, the last line of this scene is the best in my opinion. The whole, crackpot line between Daniel and Landry is funny, but that Last line is the core of this scene to me.

Speaking of how things are "supposed to be", a neat detail in the movie is that not a single smartphone shows up. Despite the iPhone already being popular in 2008-2009, everyone in the alternate timeline uses flip-phones. The implication is that smart-phone technology was a result of the Stargate Program... and thus never happened.

Daniel never theorized the pyramids were landing pads for alien ships. He postulated the pharaohs of the 4th dynasty did not build them and that they were much older. He maintains this all throughout the series but the alternate reality versions of him are discredited with the former theory.

@@starwarsnerd100 The reason the academic community attributed the "alien origin" to him was because of the academics at that last lecture he gave joked that "men from Atlantis or Martians" were the originators of the pyramids. I guess it stuck. Thought he may have believed privately that ancient aliens were responsible.

It's a classic case of having others simplify your theories to the point of absurdity to discredit it. And he was also discredited in the normal timeline, too. If you recall in the Stargate movie, he was laughed out of his last conference and was on the verge of going broke because he lost funding for his research.

Actually in the movie, he does say they are landing pads for craft. We see one land on the movie, and also there was an episode maybe in season 3 there the Gaould quickly create three pyramids and land craft on them.

...And then, of course, after Landry's lecture about the arrogance of changing the timeline back, they wait until the Goa'uld come attacking (just as SG-1 said they would,) and they then immediately scream for SG-1 to save them by changing the timeline back. (rolls eyes)

this scene was always bittersweet to me. Of course it hurt because they were denied. BUT I always respected Landry for how he did it in a way that wasn't "you're just nuts", but was able to wrap his head around exactly what they were trying to do and simply told them that they have no right to do what they were doing, because "should be" is relative.

And in the end he had enough time to choke on his words before being obliterated by a Goa'uld bombardment. We don't see him again, but it's safe to assume he died alongside most people on Earth in that timeline.

He fails to recognize that Ba'al changed the timeline for a reason. And whatever that reason was - a powerful intergalactic warlords eliminates the Stargate-program of the people, that were his downfall in the old timeline? Cowering in a corner and saying "Please don't hurt me." isn't gonna cut it here.
@kettch777
@kettch777 4 ай бұрын
He ignored the fact that the timeline had already been altered, and therefore that billions of people had ended up with different lives than they had had before. And of course, the fact that the SGC was necessary to prevent Earth from being destroyed. By reversing the timeline, Ba'al had brought back every enemy SG 1 ever faced, not just restored the Goa'uld to dominance. The Ori, the original Replicators, there were other threats out there, and ignoring all that would be suicide. It was sheer folly to assume that since Earth had been ignored so far that it always would be.

The thing that gets me is the general calling them arrogant for want to put the timeline back the way it was when he is talking to 3 people from that time line. The arrogance is his and his superiors for not helping them to do it. The team has told them that an incredibly powerful enemy of the planet has changed the timeline. Only FOOLS wouldn't understand how disastrous to the earth that could be.

Bit of a flaw in Carter's logic and I'm surprised she didn't see it. Based on the many worlds interpretation in quantum mechanics they wouldn't actually be changing anything, all they'd be doing is going back to their reality. There is nothing to say this reality will cease to exist if they go back in time cause it's already happened in this reality and if they stop it (like Mitchell does) all it does is create a different reality not erase this one.

Obviously. From an outsider's point of view. But imagine you actually live in that worse (altered) timeline. Wouldn't that give you a major existential crisis? Actually think about it. Imagine someone came to you and told you that everything you ever did, your whole life, your whole history is a fluke, something that wasn't supposed to happen. And that they want you to help them erase it.
