Stargate Got Off To A ROUGH Start (Dial the Gate)

THE VERY FIRST DIRECTOR on Stargate SG-1 was Mario Azzopardi, who helmed the show's 2-hour pilot "Children of the Gods" in 1997. The Malta-born director also worked on Stargate Atlantis, The Outer Limits, Total Recall 2070, Highlander, and many more shows we love from the 80s, 90s, and 00s.
In this clip from an extensive conversation with "Dial the Gate," Azzopardi remembers shooting the episode and dealing with numerous practical challenges - from the Vancouver weather in February to the show's ambitious visual effects (for 1990s cable TV), to a scratch that appeared down the center of the film that ruined the entire first day's worth of work. "After the first day it felt like we were a week behind!" he jokes.

This guy’s never existed in my psyche as more than a name I associate with very early Stargate. But he honestly seems like a really nice guy, it’s great to put a face and voice to the name. I doubt he realises the impact he’s had on this fanbase. I also really liked how candid and honest he got about his family issues from back then, something most would avoid talking about, but that is also a very well documented issue with people in the business. Will try to check out the full interview! 👍

When star gate sg1 first came out, i was a trekie... when star trek ng finished, I became a gate nutter!!! Seriously, thank you. Giving us SG1 and Jack O'Neil. Every great scifi series needs a "cast clown" . Atlantis kept it going... Universe killed it. No light relief just pressure and go go go. Horrible. Please do more SG1 , I know they are about the same age as me, so it'd be funny of hell!!!!

Day 1 do you have any information about the pentax binoculars that were used in Stargate SG1? Nobody seems to know what is on top. I've researched for months and I can't find anything matching it. Some ppl say it's a rangefinder, others say it's part of a vent from a car with some kind of compact camera attached to it. I've even found reddits and fb posts but only more questions and not one solid lead. Thank you in advance.

I think there should be a reboot of the show🤗 but also a movie with all original cast🤤 and hopefully jack by the end gets to retire and go fishing maybe somewhere with fish🤣😂
