Probably the fact that Davis actually was an army captain at one point in his life who was at least near actual combat, if not directly involved, rather than basically just an actor. Write what you know is just as valid a notion for actors. Bridges had coast guard reserves but that's not exactly the same thing. Especially not during the time he was in it when nothing was going on and they weren't involved in anything.

This was near the time his health was taking a downturn & he was forced to limit his screen time. If you notice he's a lot slimmer here than previous episodes. I mean no disrespect to the others, but General George Hammond will always be the true & natural leader of the SGC...RDA was promoted to Brig. General & given command of the SGC because he wanted to cut back on his screen time as well, not for anything wrong, he was just spending too much time away from his daughter & she was more important to him. Which is a perfectly understandable position to take, you only have a set number of years that are special with your children before they grow up. He also wasn't willing to just up & leave the show either. The periodic Jack appearances in later SG-1 & SGA were the result of that compromise. Like Star Trek, SG-1 & SGA both had phenomenal casts that were not just outstanding actors, but good people that worked well with others.

I really like how Hammond handles this situation. He wants Carter's help, she just wants to get home because her own dimension is more important to her. Okay, that's fine, we'll help you. But if you want to get home, you're going to have to help us because if you don't we all die. No threats, no appeals to emotions just a frank statement that we'd love to help you but you're going to have to help us to do that. Very diplomatic and rational.

I really liked General Hammond here, and the breakdown of the situation. One nitpick though, that bugged me when I saw this when it first aired... their main concern is power generation, and Sam says that there are lots more ZPMs available on Atlantis; and they totally just ignore that and focus on the lack of international cooperation. Their next statements should've been: "how do we get to Atlantis?" and "how hard / how long would it take to recover ZPMs / other tech/weapons from Atlantis, given what you know?". Then to keep this story on track, Sam could just give 1-2 lines about it being really difficult. Edit: It was really nice seeing Hammond again. It was like seeing an old friend. If I recall correctly, they also wrote his scenes here to not stress him too much, since his health was in decline; which actually made this scene better, since he was super serious & direct & methodical; rather than the occasional emoting / outburst 'our' Hammond had.

Would have been an odd universe, roughly 40 years to develop the wraith killing drug, spread it all across Pegasus meanwhile deadbolting towards the hidden ZPM modules like space wizards. Come to think of it why haven't they used the time machine, they should still have it around because they never went hunting for the Egyptian ZPM. A show being so long it'd be pretty ballsy to open a dozen cans of worms.

There are other headaches going that route which Carter likely would have been against. In universe 1(u1) the remaining zpm on atlantis was near depletion and there's no telling if the wraith were awake in u2 or not. There's a possibility that u2's atlantis had already collapsed under the ocean, and that's even if they could generate the power to dial it. Could be a death trap, waste of time, waste of power.

What bugged me when I saw it way back then. The priors could have reported 'disappeared' Earth to their masters. The Ori ,being what they are, would have guessed what Carter did. Let's say the ships couldn't immediately counteract the out of phase cloak, but they could have parked near by and waited for Earth to reappear or they could have destroyed Moon or Sun.

Also, I assume they are looking to convert large chunks of the Earth's population. Remember, Earth has like 6 billion people on it. It's probably one of the more populated planets in the Milky Way. @lamelama22
@lamelama22 4 ай бұрын
Not really, it's got it's roots in the TNG episode Parallels, where Worf goes to other parallel universes. At the end we see an Enterprise from a universe where they didn't stop the Borg from conquering the Federation. SG-1 has a really good early episode where Daniel goes to a different universe where the Go'uld are in the process of invading & conquering Earth; very similar. Parallels was in the last season of TNG, & other than the mirror universe episodes in later shows, it was never really revisited. SG-1 and its spinoff Atlantis basically followed up with several other episodes involving parallel universes; this is one of them. There's a late SG-1 episode where something goes wrong w/ the gate & it connects to other universes, this episode where Carter gets accidentally teleported to a different universe, an Atlantis ep where an alternate Rodney (scientist character) shows up from his universe, and a fun Atlantis episode where a ship they're on starts jumping from one universe to the next (like Worf was, but the whole ship). There might be more but that's what I remember offhand. Edit: omg I forgot the direct sequel episode where an alt non-military Carter & alt-still alive Kowalski transport themselves to the main universe as it's been conquered, and then our heroes have to try & help the alternate universe. In terms of "Yesterday's Enterprise", it's most similar to a late SG-1 episode where they go back in time to ancient Egypt when the Go'uld were still on Earth to steal a piece of tech. But they screw up, and end up creating an alternate timeline. In this alternate timeline, we see alternate versions of all the main characters, like in TNG where we have the alternate wartime crew (including an alive Tasha); and just like in TNG, they learn history has been wrongly changed, and that they need to go back in time to restore the original timeline & fix things.

How do you power the chair without drones?
@lamelama22
@lamelama22 4 ай бұрын
The chair isn't powered by drones, it's powered by "energy". Normally, this energy is from ZPMs (basically super advanced batteries made by the race called Ancients). Drones are the missiles it fires (or bullets if you want to think of them like that). They have drone ammo, but they are out of the batteries. As for *how* they power it; in both SG-1 and Atlantis, they were able to power up Ancient technology (including the chair) from "regular" real world power sources, like electricity, and from portable generations. More details below: In later seasons of SG-1 they had portable "naquadah generators", basically mini generators the size of a backpack, based on technology from the Go'uld race, which ran on the fictional alien mineral naquadah and were more powerful than a giant nuclear reactor, though nowhere near as powerful as a ZPM. It could fully power up Ancient tech like computers, lights, and even the small flying ships without any issues; or it could temporarily power Ancient tech like shields or weapons, or run them, but not at full power. Later in this episode, it is revealed that this alternate USA has been building up infrastructure to pump all of the electricity from the entire country's generators into the chair to power it up (basically every oil, gas, coal, & nuclear reactor, + solar/wind). It's kinda funny b/c we see Carter literally hook up 2 normal wires to the Ancient device, like the kind you would use for a car battery. But if you tried to put that much electricity through that size of wire in real life, it would immediately melt & catch on fire. The "wires" that power the lights at sports stadiums, for example, are like 10-12 feet wide (3-4 meters). :D

I liked seeing Jack get the promotion he deserved for his service. I liked seeing the members of SG:1 leading their own lives. As for Frasier's death, most military deaths are abrupt and anti-climactic. The military always tells the families that they died on some vital mission performing some heroic act when the majority of the time, they were killed either in some truly horrific manner (Burned alive in a vehicle that struck an IED) or completely randomly (patrol in the arse-end of nowhere and the only one hit in an ambush), and their death achieved nothing.
