What I never understood about the Aschen is how, if they're so smart, they never figured out on their own how to get access to the rest of the stargate network. They were doing things with stars in one episode, planning to turn Jupiter into a second sun or something... and they couldn't figure out the math for the astronomical drift to fix the addresses?
@CanidRose2 жыл бұрын
I mean, first they'd have to figure out that stellar drift was the issue. Then, they'd have to guess gate addresses one by one, seeing as they didn't have the advantage of the Abydos cartouche. Even with a computer program to check addresses for them, it'd take ages, as there's no real way to test one without dialing it up and seeing what happens. Lastly, they'd already found a use for the Stargate; transport between their local worlds. It likely wasn't until they met Earth that they realized the Stargate had the potential for more.

Going along with what has been said, I always though that somewhere in their history the Aschen gave up individuality, curiosity and creativity. Their morose attire, their lack of humor and their completely factual interests and technology all points towards a declined ability to think 'outside the box.' The fact that Mollem takes the gate addresses as viable at face value shows how their egos have totally outstripped their self-preservation. It just didn't occur to them that the SGC -- as a weaker and less technologically worthy opponent -- would give them less than useful information *despite* Carter blatantly admitting that they had basically figured them out. Basically, they were so distanced from their emotions and so sure of their superiority it never occurred to them to be cautious. Rereading it and going back to your actual question XD -- I think they just weren't interested. Basically, their lack of curiosity and interest in things outside their normal societal scope had them easily giving up.

Too bad they didn't continue the Aschen plotline. They're a cold, long lived, calculating people, highly advanced. It even said they arrived to that other world in ships instead of the Gate. Safe to assume they captured the Ambassador to milk him of everything he knows and will probably use Earth's Stargate address to get there conventionally in ships again.

Some other bad planets, The planet with the really large bugs (looked like dragonflies), The water planet, Potentially any Goa'uld "home world" The blackhole planet is bad, but potentially the Aschen might have been able to figure out how to disconnect, The planet with the big bugs may have posed a problem, but given the Aschen's knowledge of bio weapons, they MIGHT have been able to solve the problem, The water planet, could pose a problem if the Aschen don't "send a probe" first. Goa'uld home worlds have a tendency to shoot first and ask questions later. And that's just the worlds that SG1 visited, what the other teams have encountered is yet to be disclosed...... Maybe O'Neill gave them planet addresses like the one that gave the SGC holographically-disguised imposters in a foothold situation? Or the planet that the energy that came thru the gate took over Carter's body? Or the gate address to the planet of "the Giant Aliens" that had the high radiation levels? Or the planet in Solitudes that hit the wormhole with so much energy weapons it send O'Neill & Carter to Antarctica? Or the planet that Niriti made toxic (Cassandra's planet) so SG-1 could only visit it in HazMat suits? Or the address of the planet the cold dialing program found that SG-1 ended up fleeing under fire taking a friendly with who was never seen again..? Or the address Carter visited, the suns came out, and Carter would have cooked if O'Neill Ancient-Download enhanced brain hadn't generated DHD-fix-it instructions? Maybe Teal'c gave O'Neill some suggestions on the ultimate Do-Not-Visit these addresses? Or maybe some gate addresses of Gou'ald strongholds as identified by SGC or Tokra? @Wuschel19902 жыл бұрын
I don't think he could. If it was so easy why did Sam bother to use the rope in the first place? I think it has to with the fact of how you enter the gate. Imagine the worm hole was about 15m over the gate.... if you jumped into it from that height you would exit it on the other side with the same speed. The ambassador would have smashed against the wall in the gate room and depending on how (head or feet first) he might either be crippled for live or dead.
@killbot862 жыл бұрын
@@Wuschel1990 I understand jumping from that height was unsafe but while you may injure yourself flying through the gate like that, there was still a good chance that you would survive….It is certainly better than potentially dying on another world……
@Wuschel19902 жыл бұрын
@@killbot86 well it is like a pick your poison kind of situation I think. die here or die there. this way he sacrificed himself to gain precious seconds for the iris to get closed before they could drop the blue ball of death. Maybe he even jumped after her and smashed against the iris together with the bomb. Or he tried to block the iris with his body and the bomb explodes on vollan and his body is smashed through the gate. Also think about the others in the gate room. carter or someone else was still there and might have been hit by a human sized bullet. Maybe the height wasn't portrayed right and it was higher than one would assume from the look of the aircraft/vessel. So maybe it was certain death, not permanent injury. I think I new he was dead the moment the guy came to look for them. Some of these scenarios are just more logical than others but in the end we can only assume why they didn't do it.
