I thought there was some sort of rule or reason that ascended beings shouldn't touch beings on this plane of existence. In all of the interactions ascended beings had with SG-1 and others, there was never any physical contact so far as I can remember. Even when Skaara took the ball from Jack he made sure not to touch him. The only exception was Anubis, but he was in-between ascension and mortality and the host suffered greatly. The only other possible instance was when Daniel touched Jack just before he ascended...but he wasn't technically ascended yet.

Did anybody else find Jack's reactions to Skaara in this scene (and earlier when Skaara literally died in front of him) strangely muted? Especially in comparison to the S1 episode Within the Serpent's Grasp, where Jack is extremely torn up about Skaara's fate. Skaara: "You won't be seeing me again, goodbye basically forever," Jack: "Kden. Let's go home." Felt cheated out of what should have been quite an emotional moment for Jack, given that he essentially saw Skaara as his adopted son. TBF, I was still super emotional the first time I saw this; particularly when the camera cuts to the POV over Jack's shoulder showing Skaara having disappeared.

It's funny because I looked at these scenes and thought the exact opposite lol. The way he searches himself for a remark when Skaara dies but doesn't find one I felt was really a sign that Jack was overwhelmed emotionally by everything that was happening. After everything he has gone through with Daniel and ascended beings and all that I really felt that in this scene Jack doesn't even understand in himself if this is sad or happy or what any of it means in the long run. I really felt the muted response from jack in this episode made it all the more impactful because it indicates that Jack is coming to terms with a reality much bigger than himself and his mortal experience.

The gate isn't there. It is simply a manifestation to allow them to return home, and also arrive since it wasn't there after being destroyed by Anubis.

One thing I'd like to know: the wiki says that the entire planet was completely destroyed while other sources seem to imply that Abydos was merely devastated and uninhabitable.... So which is true?

the planet was destroyed. However the Ancients recreated it for SG-1 to visit and get their closure with Skaara and the others. One would assume once they left, Olma made the planet vanish again as it was a temp place.

"It was destroyed" The only thing Real was the the Stargate, Oma most likely protected it. If Command was to re-dial that gate. It would be a space gate without thrusters, floating out of control. Oma and the others were able to created different realms for certain humans to understand. They Even used them for punishment, and purgatory .Daniel was stuck in a Dinner, for this was his understanding.. " while Anubis played games with him.." The planet was SG-1's vision of how things would look in a perfect outcome. "just a different realm for them to understand" StarTrek Voyager played this kind of reasoning off also. Q setup their realm in a way humans can see it..

It is not entirely clear from the episode due to both the place on the planet and the planet being referred to by the same name. However minimum we are talking about a extinction level event since the stargate was destroyed

@@victorselve8349 Oma is not allowed to make anything to help living beings. So the gate was protected by her. It was not until the movies did they break this rule. But using our imagination, we could figure out Adria was winning the war. So they allowed Oma to heal teal'c and light up the device for them to see. During the season, they never interfered by making items as ascended beings. Now they did have a show, were a ancient whispered into a races ear on how to build a pulse cannon " but he did not make it himself lol" not a rule breaker i guess, but was told to destroy it" I considered the Nox race a culture on the level of the Ancient's. Masters of illusions/moving items/ healing/advanced city/. The 5 races had one thing in common other then powers. They all wanted to extend their lives. Could the gate been wiped out, sure. This means Oma broke the rules, and made a gate to help living humans with her powers. I would like to believe she did not need to make a gate, and just protected the one after she removed Daniel. She never left the area, after stopping Daniel from helping humans. The moment she uses her power to make that gate to help humans, she will be captured also. So with that rule being watched, she would be allowed to take something that is already there and protect it. Athara was allow to protect something that was already there also " her people" SG-1 is seeing a masterful illusion on a destroyed planet, with the gate as the only real thing. Oma did this with Daniel, The dinner was for him to understand unfolding events. The planet illusion was for Sg-1 to understand unfolding events. Nothing is real but the gate, so no rules are broken and no info to help SG-1 was given. " fine line"
