There's always the temptation to write characters like this as insufferably arrogant asses, so the more "practical" hero characters can show they tread the middle ground better. (Sort of how the Tolon came off) But they didn't do that with the Nox. They wrote them as completely understanding the middle way, but still rejecting it, in very "human" fashion of debate and experience. The Nox didn't have an ideology, they had personal principals, and they stuck to them.

As soon as the ancients ascended they did nothing for the galaxy, only oma and she was never allowed to do much under threat of being banished forever... The ancients were even willing to let Anubis wipe out all life in the galaxy becasue they refused to get involved. The Asgard took it upon themselves to act but they nor any other species was under any obligation or had to... and they saw humans as nothing more than simple animals that needed protection, like one does for a stray dog. Again honor and morality are human inventions.

This is one of the best scenes in the early show. Mind you, this is only 7 episodes in, the first couple dealt exclusively with the initial Goa'uld threat, so this is one of the FIRST exploration episodes in the show. It sets the entire thing up to be a civilization with primitive ways and technology. Sure, they can personally become invisible, but they still appeared primitive. This reveal, that ANYONE they come across could be an advanced technological race, even it they didn't appear it at face value. Just a magical reveal.

Not really. Asgard and Ancients are far above them. LoL even Goa'uld learnt how to do "cloaking" and in the later seasons they managed to hide even motherships with it. The only feat that is actually unparaleled is their revival of Aphopis and even that could be done with Goa'uld technology(sarcophagus, which was derived from ancient healing device). Yes, they are certainly above most races, maybe even in TOP5, but certainly not the most advanced, nor the second.
@KS-xk2so
@KS-xk2so Жыл бұрын
@@HanithSVK The Goa'uld scavenged literally ALL their tech, so they aren't even worth mentioning. "Advanced" is an odd term, as if we are talking pure technology, you'd be right. From an Evolution perspective, I'd argue the Nox are at the top with the Alterans. They literally can cloak, or heal, or dial the stargate, via their minds.
@HanithSVK
@HanithSVK Жыл бұрын
@@KS-xk2so Can they though? I agree with Alterans(better said Ancients cause Ori were of the same origin, they split with Alterans cause of the religious views) but Nox? We have no idea if they abilities are natural or some form of tech advancement(artificial gene therapy or form of nanotechnology in their bodies or smt like that). But it is shame that they did not continue Nox storyline, cause all we can do now is guess. But let's just say you are right and they are the most advanced race currently in galaxy. Why they do not ascend? They are IDEAL race for it. They would be safe, their pacifism and non-interfence are EXACTLY the qualities ascended beings(like alterans) enforce. So why are they staying in the physical world? Even Asgard can open the gate without the "whoosh" as we saw doing Thor several times. Not to mention that we saw that Asgard has an ability to erase someone mind with just wave of their hands(as when they removed ancient knowledge from O'Neill's brain first time they encountered the that Repository). And technically, Tau'ri in the Stargate universe are also scavengers. Most of their tech is repurposed alien tech(asgard, Goa'uld or Ancient) so by this logic even Tau'ri should not be mentioned. Hell even Thor admitted, that some of the knowledge they posses were extracted from the Ancient Repository of Knowledge(and he also admitted that they are "studying it for as long as he remembers and they are still just scratchin the surface". Very few races achieved their technological level on their own(actually the only ones that come to my mind are Wraith, Tollans and Ancients(both Ori and Alterans)). (I am not counting SG:Universe cause i haven't watch it). But, in both Pegasus galaxy AND milky way, most space-travelling races were scavengers.
@KS-xk2so
@KS-xk2so Жыл бұрын
@@HanithSVK I'd assume the Nox haven't ascended because they don't want to. For an Alteran, a race so devoted to science, becoming the ultimate form of Energy would be a noble goal. Given the look and behaviour of the Nox however, we see they are deeply connected to the physical world and the nature that surrounds them. Perhaps that is why they have no interest in Ascension?

This episode really altered the way I looked at the world and humanity. If you consider humanity to be one being, a super-organism, you realise just how young we are. Until recently, we believed that might makes right, and simply took whatever we wanted. This is very typical for young children. Now, we think money makes right, are obsessed with social status, wealth, and comparing who has the most "stuff". We also think popularity contests are the best way to decide everything (democracy). We... we're middle schoolers, around 11 on a global scale. I wonder what our teenage years will be like.

I wish they'd done more with the Nox, in the post system lord galaxy their pacifism would of been a good thing as it would of made them good mediators for disputes (because they'd wouldn't of wanted anything out of it) also the Ashen would of made for interesting recurring antagonists along side the Lucien Alliance.
@Thatslifebro_
@Thatslifebro_ 2 жыл бұрын
The idea is cool. I suspect the first thing the Ashen would do is strike a deal with the Lucians. They would just hand over some of their tech to the Lucian Alliance and let them and the Tau'ri/Jaffa go at one another. And in exchange the Lucians would leave any conquered Aschen worlds alone. While they all fight no doubt countless worlds would end up in the crossfire and the Aschen could swoop in as their saviours. Heal the sick, defend them from staged Lucian attacks, rebuild their cities. Then they introduce their sterility vaccine as per usual to slowly conquer them. They could have dozends of Worlds subservient to them and only fight the Tau'ri/Jaffa once the Ashen have the upper hand. That could have been a great multi season arc.
