I was that 12 yr old innocent kid back in 1976 who thought they were talking about ice cream with sprinkles, until years later when I found out what they were really talking about..all I can do is chuckle!! It was really an innocent time for us kids back then..

A great decade to be a teenager. Wasn’t no Led Zeppelin and my pals would never admit they would sing this to their summer love. Ya, we had boom boxes, spent the days with our group of friends , smoked a bit of pot and had a great time with no stress of complications. We need the 70’s back

lol Summer of '76! On every bar's jukebox where the afternoon patrons played the hell out of this then suddenly were no where to be found? LOL Where'd they go? LMAO! Great old tune!

The summer of 76 was a great time to be alive. The Bi-centennial, a bag-o-weed, Budweiser and Boones Farm. We partied from the last day of school till the first day back in the fall. The beach, your buds, and the babes. Throw in turning 16 and what a party we had. My folks had no idea where I was half the time. Can't do that these days, and that's a shame.

I was 9 years old when this song came out. I remember it being played on the radio constantly at the time. Even at 9 years old I understood what they were singing about. Bill Danoff, "guy with glasses" wrote the song and grew up in Springfield MA not too far from where I grew up!

The song was actually written when Afternoon Delights was seen on a menu in a small restaurant that the lead singer visited often.

Thanks for the reaction. got to love the harmonies. I remember it being played all the time that summer and never heard from them again. That was our bicentennial year. Biggest 4th celebration of my lifetime. The whole country had one big block party. Great times.

LOL Tysheen, I was waiting for you to get the meaning of the song and when i heard commercial I couldn't help buy crack up a little. I was maybe 8 years old when this came out and of course at that age I had no idea what the song was about I just knew I liked the tune. Years later I finally grasped what it meant, but I still enjoy the song. Happy you chose this to react to. :)

I was 5 years old when this song came out, my brother and my cousins all thought it was about fireworks because they sing about sky-rockets. I was about 9 when I found out it was about something else but had no idea for another few years it was about a bit of adult fun while the kids are at school.. lol Laughed so hard at your 70s commercial comment.

@@TysheenOrane I think I read somewhere it was rated by billboard magazine as one of the sexiest song of all time because of its popularity. Also I think they co-wrote Country Roads with John Denver I think it was the guy with glasses and the woman he was singing with at the start of this song. If you haven't reacted to John Denver, country roads take me home its a great country song from the 70s

It does not surprise me that it sounded like a commercial to her. The first time I heard it I thought it was a commercial and I wondered what the product would turn out to be. Of course, that first time I did not hear it from the beginning but turned on my car radio close to the end. There is definitely something reminiscent of the commercial jingle in the song.

They wrote some of John Denver's recorded songs. They also started out living and working in DC and became known then as Fat City, only the blonde and the guy she sings with. Met them in 1971in Montreal at five day exhibition and they seemed like a great couple who really enjoyed "making music." "🎶 🎶 US Pavilion had them and Minnie Pearl and Roy Acuff as some of the representative's of American Music.

Someone actually listed this somewhere as one of the worst songs of the 70's. Then again most of their list was wrong. Even the ones that weren't the best like Disco Duck are still better than a lot of the garbage on the radio today.

Gotta keep it in mind that it WAS 1976 and in order to get radio play time, they had to kinda sneak stuff in rather than be blunt like these days. They "had to sing in code", so once you have that firmly in mind, you can go back and listen to songs and read between the lines as to what the message REALLY was. It was all to "protect the children", but the truth is that we were more in touch with it and what they meant than the adult censors. 99% of the stuff being played today would never have been allowed to hit store shelves, let alone the unprotected airwaves where children might hear it. Times have changed

In 1976 my family used to listen to this song and laugh. It was risque back then in 1976 whether you like it or not being that this country was predominantly Christian. Nowadays this is nothing! The frogs have been in the boiling pot to long. Now practically nothing matters.

This was the 1970's - we had sex in the afternoon and weren't coy about it. Everyone did, LOL! Everyone knew what the lyrics meant, even the radio stations 🙂. The two older performers also wrote "Take Me Home Country Roads" with John Denver. Not relevant, but worthy of comment before ridiculing them and their time. Love your video!
