Apparently, one of the band members ate a dish called "Afternoon Delight" at a restaurant, and then came back to the rest of the band members and said what that phrase SHOULD mean. So...the inspiriation for the song did start OUT food-related... XD

In High School in the 70’s we had a jukebox in the cafeteria. Someone always played this song. We’d sing it walking the halls. Too funny.

The band actually got a (short-lived) variety show on a CBS just on the basis of this song. (Won a couple of Grammys, too. Some fresh-faced kid named Dave Letterman was a writer and performer on that show. I always wondered whatever happened to that guy.....

I was 9 when I heard this. Didn't know what the hell they were talking about. The song was huge back then. You have to see the Anchorman version.😂

Fun fact. I was 5 years old and my favorite singer was John Denver. My mom took me to see him and Starland opened for him. So technically my first concert.

I was born in November of 1970. So I was either five or six years old when the song came out. I had no idea what it was talking about but I liked the way it sounded and it was one of my favorite.

I was a young teenager when this song was a hit, and amongst my male peers, it was definitely uncool! But who with all honesty could resist the pretty melodies and fabulous harmonizing? (Plus, it has a 12 string acoustic and a steel guitar in it!) I think we all secretly liked it! Finally, one afternoon when my friends and I were hanging out at Council Crest with a radio one of us said something like "That's a stupid song but those harmonies are sure good!" We all nodded and grunted self consciously in agreement. This little chunk of ear candy has stood the test of time and is for many the very definition of a guilty pleasure. Thank you for the forum Jayvee!
