This is super interesting to me as someone who has never gone through the home buying process before! Before this video, I never really thought about my dream home, but I know I want it to be _super_ colorful. Like, pastels everywhere. Open spaces are cool too, but I don't think it should be too spacious bc I plan on living alone :P This video was super entertaining, so thank you for giving me things to think about when I do start to figure out what I want in life :)

Well technically it wasn’t inside the shower it just broke the glass pane but basically my uncle (who was our neighbour at the time - this was in 2020 I believe) attach this sorta heater because we did not have much water at that current rv park. So the heater was used to heat the water (also I’m not going to explain how the heater works but just so ya know- it’s not a regular heater) so one night (we weren’t asleep) my mom put it in the wrong spot and forgot to turn it off and BANG- fire 0-0

My boyfriend and I are tentively starting to think about where we're going to be living next year, but the cost of living crisis here in the UK is pushing that day further and further back, and making it less likely at all. He's literally an Oxford scientist that can't afford to live in Oxford. It's mental here right now. Dream situation would be somewhere with an external space for a studio on the property that I can keep my job a little seperate while also close and safe. Realistically, I'll be lucky if I get a spare box room for a studio space, but I can dream lol

I can definitely understand the apartment rent pain. I live out in West Texas, and during the George Dubya oil boom the apartment prices here skyrocketed almost to San Francisco prices. (We pay horrid rental prices and we don't even get an oceanfront view to go with 'em!) The apartment my ex-wife and I had jumped fourty bucks (from $325 to $365) when we left the place, but when I was looking for another apartment about five, six years later, the price had shot up from $365 to over $750 a month. :| Rental property owners were raising prices to price out anyone who wasn't a well-paid oil field worker, so finding a reasonable rental price became nigh impossible within a three-year time span.

We just bought a house (also about an hour away from ATX, but an hour south) and because I am also stupid, I thought our apartment lease was up in September, and only discovered it was up mid July in May. Which is notably, not a lot of time to find, buy, and move into a house. We wound up going new construction with "move-in ready" (which is a very misrepresentative name.) house because we could get a 45 day close. Did a bunch of painting (white walls, who is she?) over a holiday weekend. Much as I would have preferred an established house with Big Trees and no HOA, not having to fight the market definitely had it's benefits.

OMG! What a fiasco! Bob should have known about the lien and dealt with it before listing the house. And I can only imagine the challenges your cousin went through finding you a lender. Personally I'm right between the accepting the counter offer and closing on a new house. My current challenge is working out how to move ~10,000 lbs of stuff plus a cat ~1900 miles (including a 7 hour ferry ride). Long distance movers are different than local movers. They load and unload on their schedule with the window for each being days or even weeks!
@toob1979
@toob1979 Ай бұрын
It's pronounced "lean," like, "I leaned on the table upon which the lien rested." ALWAYS go to the courthouse and check the title on any house you want to buy. If it isn't clean, demand compensation from the seller before putting a drop of ink on any paper. The first thing you do after all the papers are signed and you officially own the home is to change the locks on all the exterior doors. You never know who has an extra set of keys to your home. Another thing you find out after buying a home is there's always another project to be done. This happens even in a brand new house.

Omg yes to all of this. I just bought a house because it was cheaper then renting. And I was unemployed for most of 2020 so I have like one month win the two years that I wasn't employed and it made it soooooo much more complicated. I am also a civilian tjat work on a military base and my job on base changed but the employer info on my pay stubsand w2s didn't which added to the confusion not counting the other three other Jobs I had. No lean on my house but the didn't have to move our close date beaucse they didn't have proof that the sellers husband was in fact dead???? Idk. My realtor was also confused. Then after close we still couldn't say we owned it because there were MORE problems on the sellers end so we didn't own it til the next day. We are still in the fixing phase. But, Our Bob, the seller was bobs wife but our neighbors insist Bob lived there alone, was a DIYer... So so many things needed to be fixed properly. We are getting our hardwood floors refinished this week! Still have to fix thr bathroom walls that have a very strange and not at all even texture. And the kitchen is currently getting worked on because he broke the cabneit trying to make the fridge fit. And the microwave. I also live next to a military base! Like... Less then 2 mins away from the gate.... So I get the army noise at night...

Can i have some qustions? As an 18 y/o who knows nothing about living on thier own? I notice that americans tend to refer to apartment in the context of renting while when refering to buying one's own property they say "a house", Is buying an appretment just not an option in the US? The reason i find it confusing is because i come from a place where a house in a buliding is pretty much gerenteed to be cheeper than any single-family house with a garden. maybe not the newest apartment, not in the most central urben areas, but its definitly the more viable option for young people that are trying to buy their first property. or is it just a quirk of the language that i missed? with "house" refering to any property of your own (rardless of if it's in a building or on the ground) and appartment refering spesificly refering to a place you rent(?) In general i get from Americans the impreshion that apartments are for young people and when you are finaly financialy ready to buy your own house, you get a suberbian on-ground house. Am i wronge? I never lived in an on-ground house so maybe i cant really say much about which is better, but i really don't see the appeal of an on-groud house (i know my wording is kind of funny but i hope you get what i mean😅) Second qustion, is staying at your parant's home for a few months not an option? I can imagine that it's probably not fun for a 20 something y/o to go back to thier parants with their tail between their legs, but it can't be that bad as a worst-case-cenerio plan, can it? Maybe i am still not enough of an adult but i can still have the mentality that i can always rely on my parants if i need a bit of help + i heard enough stories of people in their 30s that were forced to move back with their parants because in this economy is just that mental, so i dont think relying on your parants is off the table for anyone

As for your first question, apartments that you can own are generally called condominiums (condos for short). The desirability of a condo can vary from place to place, but where I live, they aren't very practical. You get the small footprint, limited space for appliances, and shared walls with your neighbors of an apartment, combined with the long term financial obligation and credit requirements of a house. If you are willing to extend your commute, you get more space, a yard, and wall that you don't have to hear your neighbors through, all for the same cost or less. Condos seem more practical for areas where the population density prohibits the development of independent homes. Space isn't much of an issue in the Southwest unless you are adamant about living in the middle of the local metropolitan area.

Based on my completely uneducated and speculative opinion informed by internet drama and Reddit stories, my guess is that the solar panel company sent someone to inspect Bob's house to see if solar panels could be installed/make a plan to install them, Bob either had a problem or changed his mind about the panels, and he didn't want to pay for solar panels that he never got, but the panel company didn't want their inspector who already did the inspection to go unpaid. Typically when I see these you-owe-us-money-no-I-don't situations, it's usually plays out as: "I wanted a product and a service, I didn't get/want the product, so I don't owe you money" vs "You may not have gotten the product, but you did get part of our service and you owe us at least for that" situation.

But, everyone is quick to jump down my throat and be like "JUST SELL YOUR HOUSE!!" Yeah, while I'm still living in it, I have three people's hoards of stuff and 5 cats. Kind of hard to sell a house while I have cats (they came with the house) because of you know cat hair... cat smells... cat damage... no one thinks of this. No one wants to listen to me because I'm just a stupid little girl who doesn't know what she's talking about. Well.... if I could buy another house or find temporary housing I could move myself, all the crap and the cats out then I could clean up the house to put on the market. Nope. No one wants to hear that. So I guess I'm doomed to rot in a house I hate in a neighborhood I hate in a city I hate. 😔😔
