The only people addressing the audience as 'comrades' belong to Momentum, a left wing faction in the Labour Party and most restrict that to Momentum meetings. The others in the Labour Party don't do this. Iran went from being a capitalist secular monarchy with the Shah to a theocracy with the Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979. It wasn't perfect under the Shah but better than it was under the Ayatollah. The left sided with the Ayatollah to get rid of the Shah and then after he got into power he executed the left wing rebels. I saw the animated film Persepolis. Some Labour MPs are pro Israel, though, and they abstained on the vote for a ceasefire. They have accused people of being anti-Semites, even Jews belonging to the Jewish Voice For Labour. All the leadership and deputy leadership candidates but Richard Burgon in 2020 signed the demands from the Jewish Board of Deputies. It was Tony Blair who set up the Jewish, Hindu, and Muslim faith schools alongside increasing the number of Christian faith schools in the state sector.

I had the misfortune of almost meeting Keir Starmer when he visited the constituency I live in during the General Election campaign in 2019. He didn't talk to many people but stood with the Labour candidate to pose for photos, and I took a few. He wasn't the party leader then, but he was in the shadow cabinet. We stood on a street corner to wait for him and then saw him walking down the hill towards us with two staffers. Caroline Lucy's said he is too authoritarian.
