I'm a Budvar man too! Home bargains for the 500ml cans for the win. This LIDL staropramen is indeed awesome too. 3 years ago LIDL did a czech knock off called Starovice and it was great as well.

Found out about this a few days ago, did a blind taste test tonight and its night and day.. have had the UK brew for years but now the proper stuff is here its totally different! love it.. Bought 8 Prague beers from Lidl and 1 UK from Tesco to do the taste test.. 3 out of 3 correct to identify which was the Czech beer... oh and also bough 2 Budvar Kegs, why not 🤣🤣

Also saw Simon’s video. Went to Lidl and found them! Bought 9 to leave some on the shelf for others, weird amount I know. The Czech one for me, has a brighter flavour. I do like it more. Still doesn’t beat the draught though

Ever since star was brewed in the uk i stopped drinking it overnight as its like night and day different taste, i have drank it in Prague on draft even better , like all of them when they started to brew under licence tastes different, Stella, Carlsberg, Heineken the list goes on. ill be popping into Lidl to have a look.

I do prefer Pilsner Urquell wherever possible (and the unpasteurised on draft might be the best pint in the world) but I'll be having a look in Lidl for some of these tomorrow.

The water in the north is definitely softer ,I have friends in the Lake District and the shampoo goes mental ( not that I need much 🤣😂) here in Lincolnshire it’s as hard as a mafia boss.i think I may have both of those beers in the fridge I’m off to have a look great review as always cheers 👍🍻

Nice review mate. I came to the same conclusion. Just one question, how do you take such seemingly large gulps and the pint barely goes down? When I take a gulp, half the pint disappears 😂

But how do you tell if its been brewed in czech or uk? The uk brewed staropramen is very cleverly marketed. Maybe look for the gold bottle cap?

Read the back of label. The UK one will say “Brewed in the UK in Burton-On-Trent” The Prague one will say “Imported by Molson Coors Brewing Company”.

check the barcode mate, 50 is from the UK , 859 is Czech

@thespencerarms2022 best way of identifying it is from bottle cap. Fake staropramen has green cap. Czech has gold.

How come you didn't use the fizzics? Did same beer battle myself yesterday, uk brewed definitely has an earthy after taste

Staropramen is probably the worst Lager made in the Czech Republic. Drink Pilsner Urquelle which is 10 times as good.

@@thespencerarms2022 I lived in Prague for 5 years when I worked for the EU and my friends and I always gave Staropramen a wide berth. There are so many better beers to be had especially Gambrinus my favourite. Marks and Spensers do a Czech beer in the Uk which although pricey is excellent although personally I do not consider £2.50 to be expensive foe a one pint bottle of beer especially given the price of beer in some city centre pubs where you can pay well over £6 for a pint of dishwater. You should do a review of the M&S Czech Beer. It is made in Ceske Budjevice the home of Budvar.
