Understanding plumbing is a great way to resolving the problems. Many times I talk to people that get aggravated with fixing leaks under their sink...here I take away the mystery.

Bob, You're the "BEST!" I followed your instructions to the 'T.' The leak is gone, at least, for now. However, the unattachable O ring seems to be wearing out and needs to be replaced. I was headed to Home Depot, but they closed early due to the holiday. Anyhow, I can't say THANK YOU! enough. But Thank You!...Thank You!...Thank You.

This was amazingly helpful video. The replacement P-Trap that I had purchased contained an unnecessary washer that the instructions said to put at the smaller end where the trap met the wall tube. After watching this video, I realized that it was unnecessary, as there is already a flange. Plus, I was over tightening with pliers. After removing that washer, and hand tightening, everything is fine!

I bought 4 new sinks and faucets to replace the 20yr old original equipment. Couldn't find a sink that had the drain in the same spot so I had to cut and replace the black ABS piping. Connected all the pieces and both sinks I have done so far are leaking at that spot. It appears level but after 30mins or so I get a drop coming out. The threaded nut is on the trap and not the drain line coming out of the wall. That has the angled tip facing downward. I just replaced exactly how it was plumbed and leaks. If plumbers weren't so expensive I would gladly just hire them. This is taking far too much time and visits to the hardware store.

In this video, what I don't understand is why you see a tapered flange connected to the pipe on the back end, but on the part coming down from the sink there is no flange on the end of the pipe. Is it in the nut on the front, but the back nut is different??

So I have a flexible tube coming down into my P TRAP and it lays at an angle ( not straight up and down as due to the mounting it cant be straight). In my case the seal does not stop the water from seeping out of it even tightened. Has my pressurized ring seal that it tightens on gone bad? Also the ring sits on the flexible part of the tubing as opposed to a smooth hard surface of the tubing (The flexible tubing is also plastic and it gives a bit more than the regular PVC) . I also feel like that is a problem. Any help?

I wish you were my neighbor. I took the p trap apart to clean grease out of it. When I reassembled with a new beveled washer it now leaks around the tailpipe. I tried tightening with channel locks but that doesn’t work so I guess it’s possible to over tighten. Alignment of the flanges are a few degrees off. What am I doing wrong?

I have replaced the P trap under our kitchen sink and it works for months then it starts leaking again. I have been doing the same thing over and over for years. I even replaced the metal P trap for PVP p trap and the same issue. It's easy enough but it does start leaking out of the blue.

Good video but I have a question: do these connections wear out over time? I moved into a house and discovered I have exactly the same kind of connection as you have here in this video but on the P-trap the part that attaches to the 90° that feeds to the wall pipe has developed a slow leak. I tried tightening it up and even tried gluing it with PVC glue but it still leaks. I’m at the point now just replacing the whole P-trap. The threads were not cross threaded or anything like that I guess it just wore out over time?

Okay, so I am a "rookie" DIY guy. My current sink pipes/drain are all metal. I just bought a new faucet/spout kit that included the drain tube BUT that is plastic. Thanks from a rookie in advance!!

No reason the GD would vibrate those connections loose, unless they weren't tighten all the way...there are no "locking" mechanism except the connectors.
@SteuTube222
@SteuTube222 7 жыл бұрын
I'm no plumber, but my guess is that the most likely cause is that the garbage disposal isn't tightly connected to the sink, so that the disposal vibrates more than it should. Another possibility, which seems less likely, is that the sink itself is loose, so that the sink & disposal together can vibrate. Hopefully you can figure out whether the sink and disposal are vibrating together or only the disposal is vibrating, by touching the bottom of the sink and the outside of disposal while the disposal is running. Also, you may be able to manually wiggle or manually raise the disposal relative to the sink; if you can the disposal is too loose. Do you have the installation instructions that explain how to mount the disposal to the bottom of the sink? Maybe all you need to do is rotate the hardware that connects the disposal to the underside of the sink drain, a few degrees. I hope this helps, good luck.

That 1st and second segment of pipe (coming froom sink to second piece right before the curved P shape) wont stay on. The rubbed will hold the pipe, but the moment I start screwing it back on to the sink it disconnects from the second piece. The rubber seal just continues to slide off.

I I am legally blind and was able to feel my way under the sink and was able to fix a leak I have been waiting for three days for a plumber to come and fix my leak and still have to wait till next Monday another four days. They were going to charge me $79 for the service call plus any repair work and parts. Thanks to you I can save my money and I don’t have a leak or a bad smell anymore you are super. Perfect for someone who has a very low income

@@bigbiemacaw Ha Ha! Me toooo!! my duct tape stopped working and today I decided to bite the bullet and at least remove the duct tape, which I did, but can't loosen the ring thingy! Even tried WD-40 . I don't have rubber gloves like the other lady suggestedd!

Thanks for this. Last night brushing my teeth before bed, I felt water at my feet. The pipe from the sink pulled out form the P Trap. Sopped up the water. Now I know how to go about fixing this. Only problem I can see it there seems to be no threads hard to believe as that sounds. I kept spinning the nut and it wasn't grabbing anything. Will taker it apart in a bit and see what's what. I hate this house I bought in FL 2 years ago. NOTHING but problems & it's only 20 years old.
