I absolutely love Philip Quast!!! I absolutely love how he articulates each and every word in this song and yet allows you to understand the character's thoughts and ideas throughout the song. I also love the way that his slightest expressions reflect the character's thoughts, ideas and feelings.... In other words, for me, PHILIP QUAST IS JAVERT PERSONIFIED!!!!

His voice is great, but for "Epic" sideburns you would have to go to Ambrose Burnsides, a man with such distinct style that they named the "sideburn" after him....now those were "epic" sideburns.

There is no technical "bar" in musical theater. Everyone is going to have their own opinion. If someone thinks Russell was better than Quast (believe me, I don't, it's just a reference) then that's their opinion, and in THEIR opinion, Crowe set the bar. I don't prefer Crowe as Javert, they should have casted the part differently. But I also don't prefer Quast. Sure he's good at pitch, but I just don't like his style and vibrato. I prefer Lewis or Fraser as Javert.
