Honestly, it's STILL enjoyable, even a year later, and even in this "incomplete" state. Dan (Govier)'s a fantastic developer, and his passion truly shows in the work he has done. I was just looking at backing this project. I’ve seen before that backing long term development projects like this, especially with games, usually doesn’t provide all that much of a return beyond helping the thing exist, but the goal of this is definitely support-worthy. Then I saw what level a rear admiral backer is. Jeez. You must really believe in this game.

Went to a Black Hole in the demo....one of the only times I've ever felt cosmophobia and needed to jump somewhere else...because it's the only place in the game where you can hear external sounds....it felt like it was getting closer to me or I was getting closer to it...even when, according to the ship, we weren't moving

This sounds like the perfect everything space expoloration game. I'm cautiously optimistic. Given where AI could be at the time of the games release, imagine having a crew you could give orders to just by talking or first contact where your actual speech could cause offence or make a new ally. That could be incredible. I hope taking advantage of AI is on the developer's radar.

I was on the Play Test a couple of years ago and being on that ship is nothing short of amazing! When you approach a planet and look at it through the viewing window, your mind will be blown away by the sheer size thanks to its 1.1 scale.

It was a fun tinker for half an hour but it's very, very barebones. For some reason it looked (and sounded )far more baked than it actually felt, seems years rather than months away from being something worth investing time and money in, imo. The exploration element just boils down to visiting various spheres with some relatively low res textures on, needs planet surfaces you can visit like space engine, didn't notice any moons either. Appreciate the work from a solo dev but at the end of the day it had nothing to draw me back to it in its current state.

Dan is a seriously great dude working on an amazing project. I've already contributed at the commodore level and have a gut feeling its going to meet multiple goals. The fact that it aims to allow me to be in a medical position is exciting in itself. I know it wont be Space Surgery Simulator, but I'm actually ok with that balance. Its something a certain MMO set in "The Final Frontier" originally promised its players before its initial development was taken over by another company.

Many of these stretched targets were those I hoped / hope Frontier incorporated into Elite Dangerous. I really hope the planetary landing stretched target allows you to land on Earth-like worlds too! Potentially an amazing game - definitely worth a gamble

I wonder if there will be benefits from performing certain jobs on a starship in how such experience translates to an eventual command position and becomes useable knowledge from a command position. In the Star Trek universe you'll see captains utilize their knowledge, experience, expertise in their original field (science, engineering, etc.) towards their command decisions.

You neglect to mention that the developers were the ones who developed the Enterprise-D simulation that CBS/Paramount allegedly intimidated into shutting down. They appear to have moved on to a npn-Trek "universe" and ship design. I see it as a big middle finger to CBS/Paramount, and wish them the best of luck, and will support them....

That's a great idea to create the ship in CAD. But i'm still waiting for a simulator that gets internal ship gravity right. I know, a spinning disk kinda ruins the design of a ship and probably creates some headaches for game devs. But wouldn't it be nice to have gravity for the living quarters, then move to a gravityless cockpit to fly the ship? ** Special mention for Elite dangerous' spinning starbases ** They're amazing!

It's the difference between taking a decades old game engine and choosing NOT to update it to get it to modern standards - I mean seriously, they spent 10 years to make Starfield but didn't realize, that first there should be 1-2 years of completely revamping the engine? Taking what is good, and rewriting what should be new. I just can't believe how you can work 10 years on a game with a suboptimal engine and not once sit down to upgrade it. Between that - and working with new technology from the ground up, where all of this stuff is already basically provided.

I played the demo earlier today. It was pretty cool and all, but it was an hour of turning on the ship, and then to find out that all but a few room of the ship were just empty boxes with a basic metal texture. I mean the detail in the very little amount of stuff present is honestly impressive but like, in its current state I will be surprised if it ever comes out in full. (Hopeful, but I guess low expectations.)

Depends on the role that you choose to play, and how you play it. The ship will have 199 AI crew members on board with you in solo mode, all doing their own jobs and routines.

@@cumunist2120 it’s a solo developer at the moment, so he’s very realistic about not guaranteeing something he cannot deliver. If you look at the kickstarter, the DLCs are “stretch goals” at this stage.

Something with the scope of No Mans Sky and the realism of MSFS.....for £65K? Not a chance. even for an MVP. That's ridiculous. That is _insane_ . Have you guys heard of The Day After? This reminds me just a little too much of that, if I'm being extremely honest. Big games don't fail because the devs are lazy, they fail because projects of this scale are _hard_ . They fail because the devs _think_ it is easy, plan a budget accordingly and then, perhaps inadvertently, sucker folks into buying something that is impossible. I've seen it happen over and over, with games I've backed no less. I'm just...super leery of this. All of that said... I would love to proven wrong as this does sound pretty awesome 😅

@@_Jay_Maker_ That's true, but looking at the designs of logos and UI etc, it's obviously mostly inspired by Star Trek TNG. Which is a good thing IMO, I've been wanting awesome modern Star Trek games forever. There are only a few and outside of something like Star Trek: Resurgence, most aren't good. Which sucks considering classics like Birth of the Federation, Starfleet/Klingon Academy, Starfleet Command, 25th Anniversary, Bridge Commander, Starship Designer, etc.

This is a fascinating sim. I've messed around with it, but the interfaces at all stations, and even in-game menus are too small for me to see, even on a 46" monitor. Windows Magnifier doesn't work right with this sim, either. So, all I can do is walk around the ship, and explore. Thanks for sharing.
