I covet this movie, still holds up today. Was able to show someone that was born in 2000 the movie for the first time some weeks ago and it moved into his top 3 list. I wish we had some proper sequels or even a reboot as much as I hate them this franchise deserves to thrive.

For some reason the bugs in Starship Troopers always reminded me of the creatures in Tremors.. they feel like they could come from the same alien world, like they're somehow related. I think it's the general earthy colour schemes and big beaks that give them a bit of a connection.

What an amazing work of art, I had no idea the producers went to such an extent to create a workable model by talented artists and engineers. I thought all the creatures were special effects, but at a much higher level than other sci fi monster movies. Now I know. I've watched the film several times just to see the realism of the battle scenes. Well done, I think the special effects people should have been awarded an oscar.

They made animatronics and had CGI together that's why the effects are so good. Same with the starships and shuttles. Every affect also had a animatronic behind it with CGI enhancements. It's a reason why The Child in Mandalorian is so realistic it's a animatronic.

Oddly enough I liked the second one as well. I think it actually gets way too much shit. The budget was only 7 millions dollars and the warriors themselves look just as good as they did in the first, with lots of practical effects still going to use. I also kind of liked the horror vibe it went for it actually fit in pretty well with the starship troopers universe

Verhoeven was said to dislike the book and call it fascist? The guy experienced occupation by Germany during childhood hence Carl is wearing SS style attire in the movie. Also people mention the movie MORE than the book which is said by some as far-right. The movie's original working title was Bug Hunt At Outpost 9. They acquire the rights due to similarities perhaps thus change the title to Starship Troopers. Actually I do like the book more due to its world building and technology. Even the Bugs are travelling using FTL capable spacecrafts and shoots energy weapons. I do really like the MI's equipment, the powered armor and have influence in modern sci fi media such as Gundam, Starcraft and Halo. According to Gundam's creator, the titular machine wasn't supposed to be a 60 foot mech but a 9 foot tall powered armor hence the term Mobile Suit.

The movie is an over the top action sci fi satire. Love the ships design. If it was the book Bug, they'll shot as soon as their feet touch the ground. They made so many MI costumes that they even show up in PR Lost Galaxy.

That scene was done with CGI. Practical effects were for close up interactions with actors and dead corpses only.

It's these scenes that made this movie the best and so scary, when I watched this when I was young, I was sacred but also so excited, big bugs, big war robots , and big blast doors. The movies started to get a bit silly and then lost interest, I can't wait to see the new one, I hope it's great !!!!!

In the original novel, the MI isn't a big military due to the intense straight up special forces training and they fight in a powered armor, 9 foot tall wearable armor plated suit with rocket boosters. The Bugs? They aren't primitive as in the movies. They got spaceships and technological advanced and shoot energy weapons.
