Better quality recreation of a promo trailer I had on an old VHS. Apologies for lesser audio quality, that had to come straight from the tape. I have no idea what kind of circulation this trailer originally had, I got it from the Australian EPK.

This trailer with this song was stuck in the depths of my memory for over 20 years. I've watched the movie over a dozen times and tonight, I said to myself, "Why do I have this song with visions of this movie in my memory?" So I literally hopped on YT and typed in "Starship Trooper Song 2" and this came up. I KNEW this was a thing. It's crazy how some things are so awesome they burn right into your long term memory.

Around this time (1997) so many movie trailers featured awesome alternative rock hits that didn't actually appear anywhere in the film. A lot of those trailers were pretty awesome. This one was one of the best! Woo-hop!

Lol. I thought the exact same thing! I was twelve when my pop took me to go see it and had no fuckin idea what I was about to watch. I just remember being a huge Robocop fan, and loving this song. I for sure thought the song would appear in the actual film, but alas, it never did. Oh well, still one of my all time favorite movies.

I was a kid, and this was the first trailer I saw for the movie. Also the first time I heard Song 2. I absolutely loved it. Unfortunately I was too young to see the movie lol I thought this was such an adult movie. 3 years later I saw a very highly censored version of the movie on TV, and I fell in love with it. Was also one of the first DVD's I've bought.

UK cut. This is the US trailer. I'm pretty sure the trailer we both remember was limited to the UK release. In fact, the UK "Song 2" trailer, didn't have the voiceover that the US version did. US trailers are far more narrative - UK trailers generally show through cuts, My recollection from release includes about 6 lines of dialogue, capped by the tagline. And the whole cut was about 1 minute long, because the timing of "This time..." was cut to match the intro to the chorus.

It had the same narration and edit as the KZbin sample here, along with that famous missing line of dialogue. I would like to see the version I remember again someday.

+NSGrendel I remember watching in Greece a trailer much like the guys described , so I dont think it was limited to the UK. I dont remember it exactly - its been almost 20 years - shit we re old -, but there was way less narrative. It was almost as if it was a video clip for Song 2 - I still remember it to this day as one of the coolest trailers ever. I hope someone uploads the original unedited.

There is another version of the trailer with Blur Song2 that has it timed to Rico with the nuke underground doing the explosion gesture when he was talking to the brain bug. Right when he did that the first woohoo and riffs start. I saw it multiple times on TV during the theatrical release of Starship Troopers. Still haven’t found it uploaded anywhere. It’s not faulty memory or Mandela effect, I know I’ve seen this commercial and that the timing to the hand gesture was the standout thing each time I saw it.

The only real problem with this trailer is the poor representation of the central idea. You have to remember that the humans first attacked the bugs. It's not an invasion film. The joke is that we went and pissed them off and take their retaliation as an excuse for war, which is rewarded with even more war.

That was what I thought and probably this is just how studio was trying to sell it (and in the process proving the point of Verhoven criticism of action films). But in a sense I think song is perfect in satiric sense. If you look at lyrics of the whole song it matches the central idea pretty good. It's either meaningless words or about being fucked up (I got my head done When I was young It's not my problem), but put to cool rock beat. Even a few lyrics we hear match satire that basically consists of militaristic and Nazi propaganda film - I lie and I'm easy. All of the time but I'm never sure why I need you Pleased to meet you. With 'lie and I'm easy' being most easy to hear. Maybe some satire of the film was sneaked in the trailer after all...
