It’s a beautiful instrument. I sat in front of mine today making a drone - my foot was tired so I put a weight on the sustain pedal - I thought that I was there for half an hour but in fact I so lost track of time that it was three hours! Thanks for the video, I really enjoy your take on these machines.

If they made this in a compact mini form, I'd get it in a heartbeat, simply no space left in the studio, but a great demo of a great instrument, which Behringer have nailed

Stairsteps in the waveform aren’t only accurately depicted in imaging, its also what they look like with low sample rate and bit depth. The cause of the stairsteps in the different cases are different so they end up sounding different, but the steps are what cause the higher frequencies associated with lo resolution digital sounds. Whenever you have a sharp edge in the time domain, you get higher frequencies. I think a lot of people saw that video from xiph “debunking” the stairsteps in digital audio, which was misleading because I'm pretty sure they were talking specifically about consumer digital audio products, trying to debunk the "analog is better" mentality. But you absolutely do have stairsteps in the waveform whenever you hear aliasing, quantization, and interpolation artifacts. And actually, there are many consumer grade products, mostly vintage tech, that produce the stairsteps. Just not like CDs and stuff... for the most part lol

Great video, and I appreciate the tech talk. I have an (ultimately useless) question, but one that has been nagging me irrationally: are the number pad buttons and the right side buttons actual mechanical keyboard buttons, (switches/keycaps, etc?) Just curious, I'm in the states, so the Wave is still a couple months out, shipping-wise. I try to nudge the volume up at specific points on all the Wave demo videos so i can maybe hear the sound the keys make when pressed, but to no avail haha.
@StarskyCarr10 күн бұрын
Someone else has asked that, or at least mentioned the buttons. They feel like an old computer - maybe a little softer. There’s no definitive ‘click’ like I get on my 909 but I’m not sure if that’s an age thing or more modern keys are a little more refined. It sounds like I’m typing if that helps! 😀

@@StarskyCarr yeah the lack of a click could just mean this Wave uses mechanical linear or tactile switches instead of clicky, which uses an additional mechanism on the stem or bottom housing - the same as it was in the past & today! @@SPAZZOID100 The ESQ pioneered the ideas that the Korg M1 and Roland D-50 used, but what I prefer about the Ensoniq is the sheer number of things it had - three oscillators, three LFOs and four envelopes per voice. To get close to that on the M1 and D-50 you had to layer separate patches, at which point the ESQ's eight voices didn't seem so limited.

Is the mini OLED screen *just* showing the wave, or is it used in any meaningful way in the UI? (Hoping not, since I'm much more likely to buy this if it doesn't rely on a cheap fragile OLED to function.)

It shows the waves and the names of the wavetables. It’s handy at times but completely unnecessary. I’ve not found any other uses for it yet.

I’d given up on this as I’d not liked the demos. The first explanation and demo I’ve heard where it sounds like a real PPG

already own and love the waldorf M, but this sounds like it can do a LOT of the same textures and timbres. not as deep modulation i guess, but it has a lot of the same elements or components and digital algorithms combined with the analog filters/vcas i would be torn if i didnt already/currently own the M

i really want this synth it can cover nearlhy all my needs are the keybeds anygood? I like really good synth action otherwise I may just buy the rack version or desktops
@StarskyCarr10 күн бұрын
It's fine, nothing 'bad' about it, but if you're a connoisseur of keybeds it might not be up to your exacting standards. It's much better than my mates clicky original. Its very subjective so I'm scared to give it marks out of 120!

after playing with it some more... I find it hard to play anything gently without missing notes. It's a little bit spongey to do anything really delicate. Fine for bashing out chords with no velocity.

I never get Synthtribe to work. I’ve connected my synths directly to my computer with different cables and no acknowledgement. But other synths are read immediately. Any suggestions?

I’ve only used it a couple of times but it worked first time on my Kobol, Pro 800 and TD3-MO. That’s with no other USB connection and not using a usb hub.

It makes my ears hurt when I tuned it off. But it sounds great while listening to it. it must be tapped into Alien Technology.
