We had a nice soaking rain here in Columbia county last week, but it didn't do much. I've been smelling the smoke here. I hope things get better for you. It's going to be an interesting year. Stay safe, and God bless.

The last two months seem to have pulled parts of Western OK out of a drought (at the expense of cotton planting). We've got a farm pond that filled for the first time in roughly 10 years.

Wise statement, feed is feed. Can always be used, or sold. I think that between you, your brother and dad, you make very wise decisions. That helps your farm grow, and get to the point where it makes it worth your time. I remember watching a video of your operation, should we bag, or shouldn't we. They didn't have this when I was growing up. But wether it be feed, or fodder, the dryer the better. Damp, molding feed or fodder isn't worth anything.

Here in eastern Nebraska we have had one cutting of alfalfa and not sure if we’ll get a full 2nd or not. Most guys aren’t sure the grass is worth the fuel. At my place we have not yet reached 2” of moisture since planting started mid April. We are in the Exceptional drought zone here.

My area hasn’t had any rainfall for about a month an it was strange, the sky would get dark rumbling a lightning oh cool finally……nope. The storms developed an went west. Had a flashback to 1988 of a drought we had. But last week finally got some nice gentle rain.

Nobody ever has to much hay! At least not anyone with livestock. Make what you can, and if you lack quantity, maybe quality can make a difference.

You know, feed is feed. Some years you will probably wish you had, and others, maybe not. But.......just letting it go to waste, isn't the answer. But if your cattle can eat enough off it to keep it growing, give it a shot. By June, cattle should be in pasture, or wherever they spend the summer. Advantages, as they eat, they lay down fertilizer as in manure. Sometimes you have to harrow it, spread it around.

I think you should get cows out onto grass areas as soon as they are ready next spring. Between the money saved by not spending to make thin hay and the money gained with the cattle doing better - graze it !
