This is what I was looking for! Thanks bud. I like doing detail branches, my old prob was gesso or paint was to thick. Never could make the actual tree look nice and pines are a nightmare for me. This will help me thanks again.

Thanks for this videos. Brilliant idea of practicing on gessoed cardboard. To pick up the technique without using up my oil paints I did start off using very inexpensive gouache. Did not mind the colours I was using as I wanted to get holding the brush and applying the paint correctly. I now have numerous pieces of cardboard with rainbow coloured happy trees. Also done some 'proper' oil painting trees that are super happy...so is the painter. Thanks again for an excellent video...off to try some mountains or clouds.

Great video. I don't have as much trouble with pine trees as I do with regular trees and bushes. How can I get the spotted individual leaves look instead of a blotchy blob. Could you do a video on tress other pine trees and bushes techniques?
@WildCreates
@WildCreates 3 жыл бұрын
I will be more than happy to add that idea to my list of videos. Until then, a simple trick you can do is when you put highlights on. Make a very marbled mixture. This way when you tap on highlights it will have multiple colors in it. This will give the illusion of multiple leaves

You mentioned practicing. BEFORE one starts painting & buying a bunch of supplies, would you recommend practicing strokes, brush handling, shading, etc with craft paint or even a cheap water color set,just to get used to painting & various techniques involved?
@WildCreates
@WildCreates Жыл бұрын
Hmmmm - good question. There is a saying that goes Buy It Nice OR Buy It Twice. While many many cheap supplies will work great, I recommend you get supplies that will help you grow and be successful at the beginning. AND YES, that means paying a little bit more. I rather have you spend a little more, build confidence and have things click than struggle with crappy supplies.... If that makes sense.

I struggle with the fan brush, and think mine are just not good brushes? They tend to separate into four or five clumps of brush instead of staying in the fan shape. Am I doing something wrong?
@WildCreates
@WildCreates 3 жыл бұрын
Have you cleaned and conditioned your brushes at all? IF you have, next time .... Use a lot more paint, Then try dipping your fan brush in paint thinner and dab it dry. Then when you take you paint brush through your paint, wiggle the brush back-and-forth (on both sides). This will help move the paint to the ends of the bristles holding the fan shape more.

Try this: - Use a soap/conditioner to soft and clean the bristles - When Painting, turn and dip your elbow and wrist a little. This will make you paint more with the corner of the brush. - Load a lot of paint into the brush. Hope that helps a little :)
