Well I'm glad I persevered to get to the 10:00 min mark! That's where Russell provided the key correction i found myself wanting to yell at both of them :) The hip bump! That's the key move 99.99 percent of new students need to be taught. It was Ben Hogan's key point he emphasized more than any other. He brilliantly explained and showed how that hip move in transistion both initiates and completes most of the downswing. Nothing to do with the hands or upper body. It's the hips that create this key postion. That's the move that delivers the club into the ideal slot.

"Back to target as long as possible" could of helped here to drive this point home... I hit the ball the best when I feel like my back is still at the target at impact. Its not, I'm more square, but it keeps me from opening up so much and coming in steep.

Some people like this feeling. Simon is already struggling in the downswing and not sure back to the target would help here but others may work well for

As a notorious over the top player i think all tips that involves any manipulation of the arms or club at the top of your swing is ruining more than it helps (yes, i think i have tried them ALL 😅) The only thing that can get my swing correct is to start with very very short swings (to around knee height with clubhead) keeping the top-part of my trail arm connected to my body and my chest turned more at the ball at impact and try to hit HARD, compressed hooks(i want hooks, as the swing gets bigger the shots will straighten) When i gradually make my backswing bigger it gets more sequenzed as i know what position i am looking for at impact...and I have realized that when I hit my best shots I did not even consider my takeaway, the top of my swing or my downswing... I think many (all?) of us over-the-top players have a very weak impactposition that is mainly powered from the arms and the will to hit that ball. I still fall back into my old habits pretty much every time I play (especially on the course) so it is a continious work...but I have only worked on it for 2 weeks.

This is the best lesson for me... off all time.... no more over the top crap.

Russ after hitting a nice compressed ball "is that alright?" Student thinking "It sure looked alright!!" 😁 lol Any adjustments we make w/ our regular, inconsistant swing will feel so awkward when we get put on the right path, but once you keep w/ it, hit some balls and practice swinging a little while w/ or w/out a club, it will become routine in no time.

Timing is involved in the entire golf swing. So, especially in the downswing, you have to time the turn with the drop of the arms. If the timing is correct, then you have a huge piece of it figured out.

Yup ,Last week shot 73,76,-86- 73 . Rollercoaster! I think ,Point left shoulder at ball and then point right Shoulder at it on Downswing. Jack Niklaus said to push off the Inside of Your trail Foot to start the Shift -Downswing,Allmost rolling the Ankle.

The arms are not ‘dropping’. They move down because of the shift to the left.

With the rope, are you swinging with the body or arms? Looks like the arms.
