For any of you who haven’t read any of prof Greene’s books you are missing out guys. “The elegant universe” and “the fabric of the cosmos” are my favourites. Very deep yet not too hard to conceptualise. Try the audiobook versions if you enjoy listening to prof Greene’s calming yet attention demanding demeanour. Fabulous books.

when the atomic clock was strapped on the pam am plane... does the movement of wires affect the distance an electric pulse has to travel that measure's time? so if the wire is moving at 600mph, that electric pulse will be in that wire a billienth of a second longer than it would relative to the surface of earth... if that pulse is what measures elapsed time, wouldn't the measurement taken then be challengeable?

I agree: on random comments and most of Chuck, though if you read other comments, Chuck actually adds entertainment, humor, and a common man value in these talks. But when u have a deeper understanding of the topics at hand, as Neil does, u have questions, lots of them, and if u wait till the end, you'd miss what inspired the question, even if you wrote down your question to ask later, as we're conditioned to think as the "polite" thing to do. Yet in this (and many other cases), interrupting to ask questions is part of the beauty, excitement, and imagination of science...

Time is fascinating. I worked the subway stations for nearly 10 years. From one end of the city to the other. Every so often I would notice the city would be saying that, "Today just flew by" or "The day was just dragging along." How can an ENTIRE CITY, with NO INTERACTION with each other, until they used the subway, complain about the same time paradox unless it was effected by it? Maybe a time distorted bubble the earth passes through in its revolution around the sun. Maybe random waves of time distortion hitting the earth? Maybe they're given off by the sun. Maybe they're from outside our Terran system and reach us in intervals. ???? 🎶Ti-i-i-ime, is on my side. Yes, it is!🎶 p.s. If you can think of a better way to do a blind survey - of an entire city - in that small window of opportunity, well then, I'm all in. Until then, I invite you to spend a couple years in the subways. Between 2pm -10pm and you'll see for yourself. Just listen as an entire city gets off of work and gets out of school. You'll see it's more than a, "coincidence of circumstances." ;-P

My idea so I get to name it! Voyager 1 is now in interstellar time or "Mikey's Time." Think of it like Alvin and the chipmunks. "Vyger's" message is sped up now that it's outside our suns time bubble or "Terran Time." It would be faster still if "Vyger" sent a message from beyond the Milky Way's time bubble. (That name is still up for grabs.) Then there's Outside the Local Group time bubble, so on and so on until we get to the, "True Interstellar Time Standard." Now that "Vyger" is in interstellar space, it's also in the Milky Way's STANDARD, faster moving, interstellar time or "Mikey's Time." This can be proven by turning off everything except its clock and transmitter. Have "Vyger" and the IP read time for as long as possible. They WILL show the flow of time speeds up the further away you from any celestial bodies. Until you reach the time standard. •Our sun's time bubble: "Terran Time" we know and have measured. •Milky Way's time bubble or "Mikey's Time." The rate/flow of TIME outside any influence but within the Milky Way: We just got there and are still figuring. Wild guess I'd say time will increase in speed, now and until Vyger is outside the Ort cloud .007-.07% faster, maybe. Just for reference. •Local Group's time bubble or the rate/flow of time outside of any influence but within the Local Group: Name still open and unknown. Wild guess .08% to a couple seconds faster, maybe. Used just for reference. •Outside any influence in the, "True Interstellar Time Standard," or...;-P Name NOT up for grabs BUT just begging to be measured. If the worm hole/Time portal has mass that moves with the earth (which it would otherwise it would start moving away once created). It's possible that the other end instantly travels and moves through time along with the earth as well. So the worm hole was theoretically always there up until it's opened and visible at the other end.

Time Travel will always exist as long as we have fiction writers. 😉 Frederick Brown wrote tons of often dark humoured short stories. One had a scientist doing a press conference in which he demonstrates his time travel machine. He sends a ping pong ball a minute into the future. He then explains about going _back_ in time, and the ping pong ball suddenly appears. The scientist explains he's _about_ to send that from the future (in about a minute), back to the current point in time. One of the press reporters asks as the ping pong ball is _already_ here, what happens if the scientist _doesn't_ send it from the Future point from which he _would_ send it. The scientist finds this a fascinating question, and he adds that would be interesting to check. "All right, when the time comes I _won't_ send--" And the entirety of reality disappears instantaneously... except for the ping pong ball.

I never thought _A Christmas Carol_ involved time travel; even the Ghosts clarify he's seeing Visions of what has transpired, is transpiring, will transpire [technically _may,_ as the future would be a choice; he was being shown *_a_* (possible) future that would happen if it had not been shown to him]...

I mean, it's possible they plucked the memories out of his head and showed them to him, since we're talking magic (ghosts). But the scientific explanation for seeing the past is photons from the past traveling forward to your retinas in the present (or, as they conjectured, you in a wormhole looking out at the photons from the past as they were emitted to see what was happening X number of years ago).

👽Great discussion as always Neil. Dr. Strange has a 'Stargate' creating ability of sorts not mentioned in the video. Knowing where to 'rip' spacetime for a desired location seems impossible. Another interesting topic from the movie interstellar not mentioned is the 'singularity' being inside the 4th dimension tesseract. I would love to hear your thoughts on this subject. Lastly, your thoughts on a possible scenario that we are not the first technological civilization that has inhabited Earth. For example, what if 100 million years ago a civilization left Earth knowing an asteroid was coming? The one that took out the dinosaurs. Cheers Blessings. 🙏

For all the flaws within that movie, The Matrix: Revolutions put it perfectly: "you didn't come here to make a choice you already made it. you're here to try to understand why you made it". "Destiny" is just semantics. A person, under the exact same circumstances, will always choose the same path, hence "Destiny". I'm not even a scientist and It's obvious to me. The "destiny" of my 10 year old me will always be me.
