Thanks for your video; very helpful. I cleaned the starter housing; be careful because the springs under the copper contact will pop out. It definitely needed cleaning. . . but figured out my problem was the solenoid. Easy replace.

I'm currently having an issue with no headlight or auxiliary lights. About to try this and see if it's the issue. Thanks for the refresher

@grimlock_rsv4634 it turned out to be the main plug in the headlight bucket had come loose. But cleaning that switch didn't hurt anything. My bike was really responsive this morning on the ride to work. I'm sure cleaning it helped.

Great video! I took my switch apart and the plunger assembly was in two pieces. I'm guessing mine is broken in half. Does that make sense? Thx

@@grimlock_rsv4634 I think it was already broken. I ordered a new assembly from eBay and swapped out the white part and it now works. Thx

Before you thought it was the starter solenoid, what were the symptoms? Mine is not starting, but when I turn the key on, I got lights, and everything. When I hit the start, I hear the solenoid click but no crank. Was this your situation? thanks
@grimlock_rsv46343 жыл бұрын
It randomly jus stopped working. Figured some form of starter issue. Figured solenoid but no, did some research n found the contacts on switch housing sometime mess up. I didn't think it would be that but I tried it and it was

Manny Yarbar I’m asking the same question with the same symptoms. Did the solenoid click when you hit the starter button?
@darnellfam1 Жыл бұрын
@@jonathanlong8682 I saw yours is actually a new post so I thought I would respond. I am currently working through the similar situation and maybe my trials can help you. My solenoid clicks but my starter won't engage or on the off chance that it does it is very weak and stalls/dies. I went ahead and checked fuses, cleaned the starter switch, did the "ground fix", and conducted multiple continuity and voltage checks. I'm at the point now where I think it is time to pull the starter. All this to say that the preliminary checks I did were not that invasive or difficult, so I strongly recommend you check them out as part of your diagnosis. There is great information on the VTX forums about this topic. Hope this helps somehow. Also keep in mind, a clicking solenoid means it is activating, not necessarily allowing proper voltage through. The contacts can be worn out.

@@darnellfam1 Thanks. I went through mine and its the starter solenoid. Have it ordered. Lights, fuel pump all good, voltage to the solenoid on the battery side, audible click when you hit the start button. Pulled the old solenoid apart. All corroded. Had gotten water in it. Thinking of sealing the new one with silicone before I put it on. Thanks for the reply.

So, If I push the starter switch and I get a clicking sound but no turn over is it the soleniod or the starter and do I need a specific screwdriver it I have to remove the stater housing? I have heard I need JIS ones
