Changed started on 2009 lancer, removed battery, air intake hose, cover throttle body. Jacked up car, removed bottom rear brace of intake, moved the big electrical wire towards the right side. Unbolt the 14 mm bolts from starter from the top. Push starter out, twist to the right and wiggle it to the right. Once it’s out, have someone unbolt the big wire from starter, and the small green wire. It’s a 7 out of 10 job to do. But it’s doable without removing the intake and throttle body.

I never try to remove it with out removing the intake mate but For me i will still remove the intake manifold its way easier to me 😉 because of the starter bolt cable at the back 😉

@ShannonLyrette10 ай бұрын
@@javierochoa432 Just make sure that you move the big electrical wire and plastic tie back towards the passenger side. It’s a tight fit but it comes in and out .

this video helped me out a lot! currently broke down on the side of the road with my throttle body and intake manifold off.. wish i had watched your video before hand! lmao old starter has been taken out and disconnected. new but used starter is now hooked up and ready to go in. my intake manifold is currently held in by a bolt on the left side of intake. seems to have just enough room to squeeze and wiggle the starter out of its tight placement... great job to the engineers on this one!.. thumbs up & Subscribed from this guy! cheers.

Hey thanks for the video. I cannot get my exhaust intake off. I have removed all bolts and the thing won't budge. Do I have to pry it off? UPDATE: I took off the throttle body fully and that allowed some movement...still can't get tue thing off.

Thanks for the info, but. Just replaced the starter on a 2008 Lancer without taking off the intake manifold. removed the throttle body and large air intake hose. disconnected the starter. Then removed it from underneath. it is possible. hope that helps. I am not a mechanic, just a hack.
@oliverthemechanic8532 Жыл бұрын
Thank also mate for watching 😉 The one that i did mate is impossible to do with out removing the intake because of the inside bolt of the starter no tools that can fit there on my opinion 😉

I just got my starter replaced but it’s not turning on at all, I was told by another mechanic that my starter wasn’t put in or tightened correctly & my intake bolt wasn’t tightened either. It’s been 3/4 weeks since my car has been down.

Just want to mention this, as it’s a safety issue in the video, removing the fuel cap will release VAPOR pressure in the tank, but the LIQUID fuel pressure in the line will still be there due to a check valve after the fuel pump in the supply line. The check valve is meant to keep fuel pressure in between starts, if it didn’t, you would have an extended crank time upon start. It’s not like once the fuel cap is removed, there is no pressure in the fuel line, it will still leak, spray and cause a fire if a person isn’t careful. Definitely cover it with a rag when removing like the video showed and plan for it to spill.

@4:49, just remove the bolts that connect it to the plenum. If you look on the body just below the bracket, you'll see an out of place extrusion. This is a wedge point. Loosen the three bolts on the top of the plenum, the two mentioned above, and the one above the oil filter. Stick a wedge between the bracket and the wedge point. The starter will now wiggle out. Gotta undo and redo the connections at this point. If you try to do the connections where it's easy, it won't go back in.
@oliverthemechanic85328 ай бұрын
I never done that technique mate but for me that’s the easiest way to remove it 😉
