even if I went blind tomorrow I would still be able to tell you it's a 90s Ford by the sound of the whining power steering pump I will say though, old Fords from this era had good electrical systems. A lot of the wiring was heavy gauge and the connectors used thick, stout plastic. Almost every Ford I've worked on from this era has been electrically sound, unless the previous owner messed with it for some reason. Not at all surprised that pretty much everything worked on this one. the horns were likely physically rusted stuck, and probably would've worked after a few sharp smacks with a plastic mallet

I can’t believe you not only found an ‘86-‘89 Taurus, but you found one that ISN’T completely rotted through. Most of these cars by the time they hit their 5th birthday, especially in my area of the US, were so rotted they were practically undriveable. Very good find! In any country.

I bought an '89 Sable Wagon ( identical to this one) with 120,000 miles on it just as a drive to work car/pickup truck. The transmission was slipping and there was an electrical short in the power windows. I changed the transmission fluid and filter and put some JB treatment in it. I installed a toggle switch on the main power wire to the windows and drove it for 5 years and over 200,000 miles on it when I gave it to my friend who then drove it to Alaska! Good old car and sneaky good handling.

Nice to see an old Taurus still in decent condition. Seems like an import from the US. Registered in Estonia back in 1994. Lots of American cars were imported from US back in early 90's. Customs tariff wasn't a burden and only modification needed for most cars was rear fog light and amber turn signals. Many of the vehicles, specially Dodge and Chevy vans had either EU lights fitted or separate turn signals added which looked bit weird. Most of them were run into the ground and ended is scrapyards.

There are some running around imported from the US. The analogy with the Sierra/Scorpio isn't a good one because, aside from the logo, everything is different: the Sierra and Scorpio were German-made, rear wheel drive, and had different engines (the Cologne V6s). The Taurus is front wheel drive, had a US V6 (don't remember the name) and they were bigger cars than those two.

On a cold winter day my passenger inside door handle snapped loose and we didn't replace it so we'd roll down the window to get out on that side for its last year.
