@Ragnar85042 жыл бұрын
All too often it's "A new clutch is WHAT?!? Let's get another used car, that's cheaper!". Labour is expensive in Europe and replacing a clutch is time-consuming. A few years ago you could definitely buy a runner-driver (road-worthy) for the estimated price of a professional clutch replacement job! Probably not a VW though, they're expensive when new and never really get cheap. The only affordable VW vans around here are T4s that have half a million km on the clock and Passats or Golfs are almost the same.

It hurts a little, that somebody abandons this perfectly fine vehicle. Because I have the exact same, same year, same engine, but even with way cheaper interior and many more kilometers on the clock. The car in the video here is a rather high class version of the Sharan, maybe even the top version. It's absolutely worth to receive some investments to be fit again. This car is crazy roomy, very versatile and to me personally, I like the ergonomics of the interior and how it isn't yet littered with the overkill of electronics of cars today. It's modern enough to have all the essentials but old enough to not annoy you with countless messages, jingles and warnings.

Reminds me of our old 2005 sharan that is now scrapped as we got into a serious side collision. It was a real tank and served us so well. Was really sad seeing it go to be scrapped because of the crash. Basically a van drove into the side of us at high speed which totalled the car. We all survived thanks to VWS brilliant safety even on a 2005 sharan. So glad to have watched this one which is just a year newer than our older sharan . Now we have a 2013 model which is still brilliant.

It's good to know this model is so safe. I have a 2007 model and love it, I want to keep it running as long as possible. I was amazed to see, how every single pillar in the car has airbags. I guess it came from the best times of VW. Also because of the interior, those older models just have great ergonomics.
@SiemensPowerHour70021 күн бұрын
@Marc_Fuchs_1985 you should definitely keep it running for as long as possible. They have such a distinct design that I do really like. And it is certainly great they have airbags on all the pillars. People complaining about clutch replacement. In a 2L modern diesel, these often need a DMF and self adjusting clutch kit. The job is super long and requires dropping the subframe and you'll often come across rounded bolts, snap bolts, things that won't budge, issues with hydraulics etc. Knowing garage labour time this can cost stupid amounts of money. I have spent well over 4k in the last 2 years on only 2 clutches and flywheels before attempting the job myself on my old car, and my god they're tricky. Maybe if the complainers could actually have a go, they'd stop complaining. A clutch used to be a 500 job, not any more

Yep. One of the HIDs burned out before the end of the video, it has body damage, the front suspension seems to be collapsing outwards, its smoking a ton (probably from oil leaks) within the engine bay. Very impressive video, and I know VWs inexplicably have the reputation of rock solid durability everywhere but here in the US (where they have been notorious for their lack of reliability for 30+ years now), but I can't help feeling this is a waste of a clutch kit. But, hey, maybe not. Plus, now its infested with mold and has ruined tires and possibly brakes.
