I had my vitrectomy surgery 3 weeks ago and I'm honestly just so thankful to be living in this day and age with amazing doctors. The first week was tough, but things are only gonna get better from here on out. I'm scheduled to have cataract surgery in about 6 months, so I'm excited to see clear again. ❤❤ Speedy recovery and good luck to anyone going through the same thing. You got this.

It is because you are very near sighted, you are at a higher risk for a detachment. Instead of a sphere, your eye is shaped more like a football and the eye tissue has to kind of stretch more to get across the area. The same thing happened to me and for the same reason. Wishing you all the best!

My husband is 68 and had a gas bubble procedure for retinal detachment, 3 days ago (March 9th 2024). He has to lie on his left side for 45 mins per hour for a week, to keep the gas bubble in the right place. His eye is very red and he has 3 different eye drops at intervals throughout the day. He is short sighted, has congenital nystagmus with associated poor vision. Thank you for this video and I will be watching the follow-up which I see is uploaded. All the best to you!

You are so young for this and such a great attitude about it. I am noticing so many young people having retinal detachment, so maybe I am lucky that I didn’t have detachment until age 66. I am extremely nearsighted (-8.5 in both eyes) and my right eye had detachment on March 8. A pnuematic retinopexy was done march 10 but failed and was repeated on March 30. But almost immediately after that I developed macular pucker which turned central vision into a dust storm, and within another week my retina detached again (same eye) but different location, so vitrectomy done on April 24 to remove the membrane and reattach the retina. The membrane removal partially restored my central vision but left me with metamorphosia (size distortion and wavy lines), plus as soon as the Hubble got small I saw signs of what seemed to be the same detachment, but it’s possible it was a 3rd detachment (scary thought). My retina specialist said he saw fluid but no tears or holes and might have to put in a gas bubble the following week. But I got scared and went to a different specialist the next day. He had an ultra widefield imaging system and immediately saw the fluid under my retina and a hole that was the cause. He injected a bubble to protect my macula and then did vitrectomy on May 16. That was my second vitrectomy in 22 days. I am still recovering at this point, and though I see no signs of detachment currently, I have many scary light flashes all the time. I hope that is normal. Note that neither vitrectomy used a scleral buckle, and both surgeries used a gas bubble, not silicon oil. But the doctor said if I detach again in sane eye, the oil would likely be used. I pray you are still doing well.

I've had 3 surgeries. 1st was the buckle & gas. 2nd was Laser & gas again. And 3rd was Laser & silicone oil. Each surgery was 6 weeks apart. What a journey! Still recovering from my 3rd surgery. Week 1. I go back in 3 months to remove the oil. I've had every single retina detachment surgery that you can have. My life has changed quickly. And my vision really sucks now. Worse than it was before all this. 😢 I can relate to you and many now.

All the best to you, and I hope your last 3 months have been an improvement. I had nearly no vision in my eye due to cataract PRIOR to my retina detachment happening, BUT I was able to still see quite well. After buckle and silicone surgery 3 weeks ago, my eyesight has been worse than before, because my other eye is struggling to "counteract" and help with the vision. But now, it's slowly coming along, so I hope it does for you, too. I am mentioning this, because I was totally surprised that vision could get even worse with the surgery, but understand that the eyes need time to heal, to adapt and accomodate and really calmness. My fingers are crossed that things have become better for you.

@Hippabellita1 Thank you so much. I'm so sorry you are battling this as well. I'm recovering now from the silicone oil removal. Coming up on 3 weeks. But now I need cataract surgery once it's healed. My vision is also not so good. Very blurry and center vision is distorted. Using 100% of my good eye. I really really pray your vision improves. It's a real life changing event to get use to. Each day is something different. I haven't been able to work since July 2023. Hoping my future is much better than what I've been facing these past 8 months. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Whats your name?

Hi Lauren thank you for your video about your Retina detachment and treatment. I have had various Retina tears treated via laser surgery. I had a Retina detachment in my left eye had no idea what it was and as it was bonfire night I thought the flashes where the fireworks it wasn't until I went to see the doctors the next day for something else I casually said I am having flashes and floaters in my left eye. My Dr said you must get that checked out now I thought ok after the weekend as she said not after the weekend now. I was so grateful for this Dr telling me to go now that after a week I had had laser surgery to fix 2 holes then later a retina tear which saved my sight due to prompt action. We are ignorant of this eye situation and therefore I am so glad for your video .I am now having to make a decision about having Cataract surgery but i have Lattis Degeneration which is a risk of further tears or a detachment . Getting stressed about making that decision as it's a risk . 😢.....any help or encourage would be appreciated 😊 I
@Godschild7735
@Godschild7735 Ай бұрын
@joanholme1672 I, too, have lattice degeneration and had 3 back to back detachments in my left eye. I under went cataract surgery. No issues since. But the cataract didn't improve much of my vision. It was more a less to help Dr's see behind my eye in case of any more detachments. So I would say cataract surgery won't cause much of a concern. But everyone body is different, so I can't say how yours will be just because mine was okay. Good luck. ♥️ Since all my detachments my life has changed dramatically I'm still learning to cope and understand my new life. Best wishes

Nicole, this is so motivating to read. My eye doctor's office missed my retinal detachment, too . I called them and they said that it was the effect of my cataract problem, which it wasn't. Thus, I got finally diagnosed 2 months after the retina detachment had happened and had to wait 10 days for surgery, and nobody wanted and wants to give me a prognosis ...... I am 3 weeks post-op and very afraid to get my hopes up, but your comment gives me some hope. THANKS and I hope, all is good with you now.

I am glad you are recovering and have regained your eyesight. I went through similar experience. On Black Friday of 2022 I woke up with floaters on my right eye; a co-worker had had floaters and was treated with steroids and eye drops. That Sunday I woke up, and could not see out of my right eye. On December 22, 2022 I had eye surgery and had to sleep face down and keep my face down for a week. I had a gas bubble to maintain pressure on retina and it took roughly 3 weeks for it to go away. I immediately development a cataract and had corrective surgery in October of 2023. I currently can see out of my right eye but the vision is a soft focus. I will need some further procedures to try and improve vision; I hope to regain clear vision but I can see. Good luck to you and everyone out there that goes through this experience.

I wish you a fast recovery! Is your other eye having problems with vitreous or retina detachment? I am 37 suffering from vitreous detachment. I woke up with a huge black eye floater and flashing. So i went to the ER they had an ophthalmologist look at my eye and said that I have vitreous detachment. It is scary because when it detaches it can lead to a retinal detachment. I have -7 myopia and high astigmatism as well. Thanks for making this video, i was afraid I was the only person under 60 dealing with this. Most people are elderly that have this happen.

I've done a vitrectomy with silicon oil instead of gas. Currently I'm able to see a very blurry image with a yellow tint. Hi! Vision after the surgery is definitely a long road - being about a 1 year later i still am not back to 20/20 but i would say my vision definitely had improved a lot about 6/7 months post surgery. From what I've been told by my surgeon, the vision you get back is really dependant on each person and that most of time they're not sure how much vision you get back whether its 70% or 100% restored. I had a few pockets of fluid that still needed to be absorbed which had settled into my central vision and slightly distorted things (bc its like you're looking through water essentially) and i still have a bit of that distortion today but it has gotten a ton better over the past year and I'm still hoping it will keep improving!

Your sharing is so very kind! My friend is near 3 months on her silicone oil buckle, and is concerned how to know best the retina is healed so the silicone should be removed. (And there’s a danger of leaving it in too long?). That surgery is hundreds of miles away, and she doesn’t want to go the distance only to hear she’s not ready. Can you help? How do we learn up, on that?

I had a horseshoe retinitier and they did laser surgery on my right eye . if there were the laser surgery he said that you would see a little dim out that one eye for a few minutes and then it would go away and fade and it did . only asked for a couple of seconds . after the laser surgery for one or two days I felt like there was something in my eye like some seeing or something like that but not it just felt like when you have an eyelash in your eye . I put a cold rag on my right eye for about 2 or 3 days that feeling of having an eyelash in your eye or something in your eye subsided in 1 to 2 days . I didn't have any swelling or anything like that and I wasn't in pain afterwards when I went back home . After the surgery when I went in the waiting room the doctor said that you would feel like you would have a headache and that was about it and then when I went home that's decided I just went to go lay down for the rest of the day and I got up and felt like a little bit better no headache at all that went away it just felt like there was like a little speck in my eye . but as I said I put a cold wash rag on my right eye and within a few days that feeling went away . and the doctor just didn't tell me anything like ain't no dues or nonsense or anything like that he just said go about your normal life just don't go scuba diving or swimming but other than that I was okay

@@tolgaismail I can see a little better I actually just had cataract surgery on both eyes as well they wanted my vision perception to be more even because it was way different in each eye. Now I see better. (More unison) My eye that got injured (right eye) I can see far extremely well not but trying to send a text or read it's hard now without glasses. But the Dr told me to consider a minor procedure by I believe laser. She told me I have a piece of cartilage behind some part of my eye and says my vision in that eye may improve that much more if removed. My eyes have gone through a lot since it happened. Thank you for asking.

@@tolgaismail I also forgot to mention all be it I see much better if I place my head or lay in a certain direction I can see the air/oil bubbles still. The Dr also told me that she can remove the oil or air bubbles as well it's a timely procedure and it does not really affect me in any way so I will bypass it honestly it's something I can live with. She said it would be much harder if it were oil bubbles and being this detachment happened so quickly and I went into surgery so fast they had to use what was on hand which was oil. Good times

It does definitely return to normal size! You will notice though that the pupil looks slightly different then the other eye just due to it being a slightly different shape after the buckle surgery.
