Nothing hits quite like hearing someone describe the process of picking up, putting down, stalling on, scrapping, reworking, pausing again, and continuing to come back to a story☺️

When she hit 20k, I realized that I’m almost there in my novel. I’m putting an intensely long paragraph into Wordtune, but it’ll take a while because it’s over 280 characters. You have given me motivation to write, and I’m finally at 14,699 words. Edit: Now I’m at 16,500 words! Edit 2: Hit 20k yesterday, and today I’m almost done knitting a blanket!

Thanks for this vlog - it’s very motivating. I’m a teacher, so spend most of my evenings and weekends either marking, planning lessons or looking after my toddler son, so I really need to try to use the rare moments of free time I have efficiently. Recently that’s been listening to podcasts or audiobooks when driving - that’s about the only free time I have! For the last year and a half or so I’ve just felt too tired once I’ve got work done and got the little one to sleep (if I’ve even managed!) I might try some work sprints for myself. If I have half an hour to myself I want to get some writing done. No excuses - I have to make time to write! 🙂

Thank you for pulling back the curtain on what it is like to really try to get words down on paper. The starts, stops, highs and lows. I am just now getting around to working on a novel that I've been putting off for YEARS and this video has made the idea of jumping back in far less stressful.

I just found your account yesterday! I finally think I have the foundation to write my first book! I came up with the original idea in 2021, but I haven't written narratively since 2012 so I've gradually stretched my writing and idea-creating muscles :) Your videos are so relaxing and inspiring and I LOVE your accent :) I can't wait to watch more of your channel as I write my first complete draft!

Also, hearing you, or any people really, talk about writing a novel gives me an itch to try it as well. It's good that you admit you've sat with your idea for two years before strart writing in earnest, because, woah, that actually sounds realistic. Patience, girl, (and persistence) is what I need to remind myself of. Girl being me.

I kept nodding my head when you spoke about focusing on the structure of a story before focusing on the language. I am someone who obsesses over language, especially grammar and punctuation. But this isn't story. As a result, I too was in the doldrums for years with a great story concept and a crap plot. Only recently have I shown some humility and decided to focus on structure. I still think that my strength will always lie in language but at least I have learned that if the structure isn't sound, everything will collapse. It's great to see you working on another novel. I enjoyed this video!

I just followed you. Your writing routines accidentally drew me in a few days ago. Very cozy words and style 💛🧡 and the casual way you wove your project into the challenges plus mentioning that it feeds off of the vibes of Dorian Grey actually makes me want to behave out-of-character and read an adult fantasy novel, to see what it's about, and with all the work you've put into it. Saw in a video title that you finished it - congratulations! Good luck with the getting-it-out-into-the-world-part 🍀🍀🍀

Writing novels is such a difficult task, especially when you want to publish it. I'm currently working on my first actual novel that I plan to publish in the future and it's much more daunting than the novels I write for my own pleasure/reading. I started the novel by planning it all out on sticky notes so I had a basis for each chapter. When I feel stuck on a certain chapter, I go to a chapter that I instead know well, then it gives me the chance to write more and eventually look back on what I have already written to fix the smaller details. Super fun and frustrating project but it will surely be worth the struggle! I enjoyed watching your video and seeing that I am not alone in procrastinating or struggling to get past certain blocks.

Hi Christy! New subscriber here. I've just discovered your channel and I'm loving the content so far. This vlog was particularly inspiring, because I struggle with buckling down and writing too--especially with the "big bones" of a story. I love the imagery, the details, the dialogue, but nailing the plot and the characters' motivations is something I have always struggled with. So, you are not alone in that! And I'm glad you've found a way to overcome it. I can't wait to see more from you. Have a lovely day! :)

I was in the same position then I decided to write a thriller story. Write-delete-re-write again and again it’s a really big challenge. Because then you first re-write a story your will always think that the lines are not good enough and then it’s really can take the years to finish the book. No matter how hard it was in the beginning.
