Came upon this by accident. As a retired engineer it takes me back to my early days. Purifiers and compressors were the remit of the 4th engineer. My first trip as 4th was 1973 so nothing was automated. That includes the cleaning cycle. Good video, nice verbal presentation and labelling of V/V's etc that you are referring to. This would be helpful to those that wish to make a career as a marine engineer. Tip!!! presentation in a quiet environment outlining what you are going to do is a big plus, then go straight to the onsite hands on job. Perhaps a recap afterwards of problems that may be encountered and solutions to fix them. Great video

@@SeanLentze Just Retired as Chief Engineer after 40 years at sea - Nice Clean Purifier Area and a credit to all the Crew. Maybe you did but for others - from experience best to check the Oil Level in the Purifier before starting the Unit as the damage to the vertical shaft bearings will be huge if oil level is low as unfortunately the Motorman cleaned under the Purifier each day without informing the Duty Engineers so level dropped and bang during the next start up leaving port. Keep up the good work.

Nice video, good presentation. And the cleanest purifier room I have ever seen. (And since 1978 I have seen a lot of them😅) I saw you opening valves up to the end of their stroke (so hard on) I have a small tip also: when opening valves, always turn the handwheel a quarter back after you have opened them to the max. Was one of the first things I learned as an engine cadet in 78. I have seen people using wheel spanners trying to open valves that were already open! Turning the handwheel a quarter back will prevent such unwanted actions.

Nice Vid SIR!, Can I ask what's the purpose of the pressure gauge and sensor, monitoring on the dirty water discharge line.

Depending on the setpoint, a leak alarm will be given if that pressure drops to a specific parameter. And a leak alarm is often triggered by a problem in the purifier itself.

Depending on your operation and the model of the purifier. Normally in purifier operation and Hidens model, it is open and adjusted depending on the pressure stated in the manual. But if it's on clarifier operation and not Hidens model, it should be closed.

Thanks for the informative videos. I'm unfamiliar with purifiers but have a background in engineered pumps, compressors and turbines. What percentage of the fuel oil feed is "sludge" and separated out of the fuel oil by the purifier? What is the average feed rate to the purifier in GPM or cubic meters per hour? What is the average particulate size that is separated by the purifier in microns or other unit of measurement? Thanks

You're welcome! We determine a purifier's feed rate and temperature depending on a purifier's model, gravity disc and density of the fuel to be fed. Also it depends on the Chief Engineer's discretion on the interval of sludge discharge of a purifier. In the case of my FO purifier, we set it at a minimal feed rate to maximize the purification process and set the sludge interval at an hourly manner instead of the usual 2-hour interval. Hence, we set it at 4000L/H feed rate, 98 degree Celsius feed temperature, hourly sludge discharge at 6.6Ltrs of sludge discharged every hour so at a 24 hour interval there is approximately 160 ltrs of sludge discharged in to the sludge tank. Nice question! The type of FO purifier that I showed in my video is the one with the attached gear pump to the purifier horizontal shaft. So when I started the purifier, the gear pump or supply pump is also in operation.

Hello brother we've a sj25hh purifer when we changed our fuel it started discharging every 5 to 10min with a wd alarm we chanded gravity disc and temperature but nothing changed the first time he continued until discharge time but then he started discharging again every 5 to 10min 🙏

Good day! As per your purifier's maker manual or your ship's PMS, you can see the listed maintenance of your machinery in a daily/monthly/yearly basis. You can just follow that and you will have no problem with your purifier.

Depende sa density ng fuel oil mo or lub oil at a specific temperature, usually yung specs na yan nasa oil analysis na binibigay kapag bagong bunker or receive lang ng oil. Then gamitin mo yung density na yun sa nomogram chart na prinovide ng maker sa manual ng purifier mo. Balak ko gumawa vid about sa pagpili ng gravity, iniisip ko pa kung paano 😊

Hi po sir, naglilinis din po ba kayo ng strainer ng oil filter pag tumunog na yung alarm? Is it necessary po na patunugin yung alarm or dapat talaga i monitor na wag ma drop into 1.5 yung pressure gauge. Bagohan lang po, bsmt grad po pala ako pero nagtatrabaho po ako ngayon sa isang shipbuilding company as a mechanic which is all about bsmarE works.

Yung paglinis ng filter yung isa sa pinakapwedeng gawin, pero routine na nililinisan yun every day kaya malimit po na yun ang problema, depende narin sa quality ng oil. Sa pressure naman kung walang problema yung purifier kaya niyang imaintain yung steady back pressure, hindi kelangan imonitor, sa start up lang talaga kelangang bantayan.
