Hi susan Painting a shipping container can be hard if you dont do the prep right . first step is to sandblast off the rust and remove the decals completely . step 2 is to use either an epoxy or metal primer. When it comes to paint tremclad is usually great but using electric spray guns not the brightest idea the best are body shop spray guns hooked to a comperssor if hooked up correctly you can run 2 guns at once . yes its a long job but if you have 2 sections of 5x5x10 scaffolding and two 4 wheel scaffold buggys one on each side it can go fast because youve got like 10 feet of working platform distance which is alot of area . another option is renting an airless sprayer with 25' of hose and an extension your spray patern is wide you cover a wider area and dont need to keep mixing paint you mix your paint in a 5 gallon bucket put the pump in and off you go done in a short time .

Yup. Close to broken arm time. Should have full guards etc. Paint the back first after surface prep and priming. A body shop would have an optical gizmo that would show ratios. They do for automotive application anyhow. Coating job is only as good as Surface Preparation. 50% overlap of spray. Top down to bottom. Keep gun perpendicular to surface. Corners first. Looks good Erik. You could always chrome it! Make sure there are vents at the top at corners. Go-Kart track! How many mils thick? Second coat on East side after suitable overcoat time.

All the paint I mix at work is do e on computer the ratios are all programed in you pick how much and what product you want to mix and wham bam ready to mix. Ya I always paint top down but every paint school I've been too they want you going bottom up because the paint over spray will be obsorbes in better.

@@ruralridez6165 My experience has been Industrial Coatings, Inorganic Zinc primers, 2 part hi-build epoxies usually on ships, bridges, piping etc. Usually with Airless Spray. Specific Surface Preparation. 2 coats on your container? Nice match. Some big rolling waves on the side like camo on Warships? I have seen an optical device that is held to the paint colour desired and it transfers info on amounts to mix for perfect match. My condolences to you and your family.

@@gordbaker896 yes we have one of the cameras that you can matches with. They cost around 5k only bigger locations like mine get them. Evey 24 hrs they need to be calibrated taking a black picture on a special disc then a white one. I do t use is too often most paint codes will have a color deck with 3-5 different alternates to pick from. I've had colors with as many as 12 alternates so you do you best to pick the one that looks best and always good to get a second opinion everyone sees color different.

My sincere condolences to Erik and you. I probably understand about not seeing him. Daddy came to my house after my first child was born. He took me aside and say, " baby girl, I love you but can never come to your house again." Later I asked Mom why he said that. Long story short.. we had a three month old German Shepard pup. He had been terrorized when he was seven by a bully who locked him in a shed with a vicious one. So, Mom visited, but not Daddy. We didn't get to go home much because of work. I received the same call ya'll did, he was in Georgia on a business trip. I hadn't seen him in over a year. May God wrap you all in his loving arms and bring you comfort.

With a small compressor you can compensate by rigging multiple portable tanks together or by using an old 50 gallon propane cylinder. many of those are abandoned because they have timed out of the re certification to be refilled with flammable gas. I have one manufactured in 1954 that I use for exactly that. Small compressors can make pressure but they dont have air tank volume . you will have to take a break often for the compressor to catch up but the cost savings is attractive

Sorry about Erics dad. You can just get the color codes from the metal company and have it tinted the paint in a base. We do it all the time to match roofs and siding. ABC and Metal Sales are the most common and Menards makes their own metal.

About the container do you give it a clear coat ? Containers in the sun tend to be very hot and maybe that the paint will come off ? Wish you all the best from the Netherlands. PS about the rash, are you maybe allergic to something ? People can devellop allergies that they had never before. Maybe try some antihistamine. I had an allergie once I swoll up like a balloon. I could not bend my neck backwards. One pil and I felt better instantly.

Sorry to hear about Eric’s father. This virus has caused lots of issues with hospitalizations. I have a cousin that took his wife to the ER this past weekend with severe cramps. They would no allow him into the ER all. Over 2 hrs sitting in his truck in the parking lot before he received any type of information.

Erik is doing a great job on the painting. The first thing that came to mind was that color looks like U.S. Army Olive-Drab. Then when you shared about Eriks dad and the book I thought how appropriate. Please know I will have your family in my thoughts and prayers. On a separate note, I think you should spray the top the same color as a base coating then paint a US flag centered in the middle in red, white and blue styled to match the truck.

I will be praying for you all. A death during this must be horrible. I have a friend who lost her mom during this and she said, " its like you don't get closure ."
