47:00: I'm also suspicious that the game started breaking _just_ after the dev stopped actively showing up in your streams. A lot of my code's bugs happen as soon as I'm not watching it too. 😄

You can programmatically change the prop twist. I use it on one of my vehicles to reverse thrust. It has the advantage of not needing to spin up and down between modes.

I do system wiring and circuit routing all the time. The eternal problem is that you can design nice clean wiring from one block to another, but the connections to the blocks never line up that way. The solution is what I call a ‘local chaos zone’: create one row of connections that are easy to hook up within the block, and another row of connections that are easy to hook up between blocks. The chaos zone is the spaghetti that connects one row to the other. The advantage is that you only have to build the spaghetti once, and each link is a simple, “I know it needs to start here and end there”. Once you’ve checked all the links, you can ignore the messy zone and work conveniently on either side.

For your power poles, you can hold X when placing the cable to force a flexible cable on the same grid. This way, you dont have to use a pivot/hinge.
@Flipsie2 ай бұрын
Oh! I had no idea, thanks :)
@Pystro2 ай бұрын
For cabling inside of diagonal block/armor/hull pieces, I would: Copy all the pieces out of the way. Delete the original pieces. (Possibly place a layer of glass over the thing to get yourself to the correct height.) Place cables on the SURFACE of the copied pieces (or the glass). (Check your work!) Copy the temporary pieces back over to their original position. Delete the temporary pieces. That way you don't have to stick to the subdividing interior surfaces; your head doesn't have to stick into the other 3 runs of cable that have to go through the same arm; and you can very easily see if you did it correctly. Also, bridges on _both ends_ of the diagonal section.

Just a side note: DU does have a PVE mode where you are attacked by an alien fleet. Fleet size based on your (solo) ship size. Its cumbersome, unbalanced, and not fun at all (mostly because the weapon mechanics in DU are awful) but its there technically. Tried it out with a friend when it first came out with a simple borg cube type ship double thick walls which did nothing to stop alien weapons. Their weapons went right through the walls as if they weren't there and destroyed the core (main/starter block in DU) within minutes. We never went back into it lol

You built my hopes up and dashed them rather expertly! :D

27:36 a neat thing I found out the other day is that if you make like 10 spools of any cable it's going to show as x10 in your inventory, but when you use it for the first time it's going to consolidate as 1x1000m of spool :) so it's not as bad to make a bunch

I gotta say I'm surprised that Wasted did not know what an aerospike engine is. 'Cause they are pretty cool.

the problem is the dev has only one layer of collision. so add two more layers of collision and then sandwich them together so each layer is in one layer.

Seems like the red Barron wanted another drink. The stuff people will build when they get used to the scripting and what not, is going to be crazy.

@Splitsie, you need to move the wheels forward on that plane to it doesn’t nose-dive so badly on takeoff/landing.

There's also a reason that there's one wheel under the nose, and the rest are further back

23:25 So...about 15000 cubic meters or 36000 tons of concrete, yeah I think you have enough.

Maybe try thinking more enshrouded with the building...the frames can lock you into certain shapes. I find it good to sneak 1 frame in but then free form build from there.
@Flipsie2 ай бұрын
The trouble with the frames is that certain parts - like the doors - have to be locked to frames so you do need to build to them for those. My thinking was, build to the frames until the core bits are in, then tweak and adjust the hull shape after :)
@Techathy2 ай бұрын
Surely you should build a huge submarine out of all all that concrete?

Good point - EDF style Submarine Carrier, I'm sure W4sted will be on board with that :D

There were plans for concrete battleships at one point. They decided to stick with quality over quantity thankfully lol
