If you live in a colder zone like we do- you could start them anytime over the next six weeks. We are specifically starting them now for a Mother's Day crop. My last frost date is around May 15. Generally, you start them 12 weeks before your last frost if you don't have season extenders like a low tunnel or a hoop house.

I bought some ranunculus in fall of 2019, and planted them straight away in my raised garden beds. I was completely unaware that they required any extra prep like soaking, or that they should be planted in the spring. Luckily I'm in zone 8, and they came up without any trouble come spring 2020. I think they bloomed in March. They were absolutely beautiful, and some had a wonderful scent. I never dug up the corms last year, I just left them where they were, and they've been putting out new leaves for at least a month now. I hope they flower this year too!

Growing my first ranunculus this year. I’m in California zone 9b. I soaked but did not aerate my corms. I put most of them straight into containers outside. I already have a lot of green growth so hope I can get blooms before the heat hits. The few corms I planted directly into my garden beds were promptly scarfed up by a nocturnal animal, either rat or skunk maybe. Everything I put in the ground is subject to predation from gophers and their other fiendish accomplices. Thank you for your videos. I learn so much and am so inspired to try new things because of you!

My crazy life, we adopted 3 kiddos from Ethiopia and we adopted our14 year old in 2006. So after raising 4 beautiful daughters. We have always had a garden but it was a chore after the fire we couldn't start the rebuild till spring 2018. We lived at a ministry called Camp Foundation that had a garden that was neglected so that keep me busy while waiting. Anyway you are about 2hrs from me and in the right zone as me. So, love your channel.

Good video, nice to see some of your flower friends input too. I started ranunculus in autumn, some are in the hoop house and some outside, here in UK we’ve had frost down to -6c and the ranunculus are looking fabulous. The anemone on the other hand are not so good, they had rotted off and turned to sticky slimy mush in the sprouting process. Not sure what happened there, perhaps over watered? One word of caution to all flower friends out there though, mice love ranunculus corms! They will dig them up and eat the lot, once sprouted they should leave them alone. Last year a mouse had a feast , and ate all the ranunculus out of the ground all they left was the hole the dug over each corm. Lesson learned and I pre sprout the corms in a mouse free zone before planting out. Looking forward to seeing yours bloom,

I watched this again for 2022. I wanted to do ranunculus last year but wasn't able to obtain corms in time. Glad I watched again before just potting up 60 corms! I knew they liked cooler temps to grow but had not realized the hardiness. The hardiness means that I'll be able to move them out to my greenhouse earlier than I thought so I can have more room in my hobby room for other seeds. Zone 6b, Juneau, Alaska.

I have started about 75 corms of various colors yesterday to presprout. I held back the other 75 to start in 2 weeks. Greetings, from New Mexico!!! If you are unable to find the bags to soak the corms in, take a trip to your local hardware store, paint dept. And ask for paint filters there are usually 2 suzez. Put the Corms in the filter, tie off the opening with a rubber band then place in the water to soak. I like the idea of the fish filter to add oxygen to the soaking corms. I have used the filters, inverted, with little hoops inside, and cover small tender plants to protect them from pests. I hate grasshoppers! I've made large covers, Cloches?, out of Tulle, from the craft store. Thankyou for the Corms tutorial, awesome!!!

It’s my 2nd year growing ranunculus and I’ve had good success. For the pre sprout, I put each type in a bowl of water and change the water every hour soaking for 3 hours or so. Then they’re placed in a solid nursery tray on top of an inch or so of potting mix and just cover them. This year has been pretty cold and we has 2 “ of snow last night. I’ve been covering them when nights are 32 or lower. That may not be necessary but I don’t want to take the chance of losing those beauties. I only grow about 100.

I think that the ranunculus corms resemble the seed pods for columbine and delphinium plants; I think that the ranunculaceae family is fascinating and I'm planning to start growing ranunculus in the near future. My main first-half-of-growing-season fillers are a mass planting of poppies, cornflowers, columbine, forget-me-not, and I think that the ranunculus varieties that Nicole was using would go well with that combination. I live in zone 7a and I think that I'll just leave the corms in the ground all the time and hopefully that will work.

Ok, so you talked me into it!!! Looks like I'll be trying raniculus next. I may even try this year if I can find some corms. They are a beautiful flower.

I wish you included a date in your video notes! I am in MN zone 4b, looking back at all of your videos has been a huge help, but sometimes I'm not sure what month it is that you're planting etc! Especially with the older videos that just say "posted 2 years ago" etc. I've been watching all of your videos for about 7 hours today... just can't get enough! Thank you!!! 😍🥰

The exact date is always listed next to the view count when you have the video description open!

@@FlowerHillFarm thank you! I had been watching on my TV and had to click a few different areas to find the date!

I love that all 3 of you are so close to home for me. I'm in Ephratah, NY. It's great to watch and learn from people who are in the same climate. Thank you!

I didn't realize I could start these now! I got so excited when I saw your video. I got my corms out and ready and they are now sitting in their quiet place waiting to sprout!! I have some row cover I'll use if I need to when they're big enough to put outside :)

Just a comment on dahlias, I watched a video from Coast to Coast Home and Garden and this gal visited Swan Island Dahlias and I was amazed how they berm up the dahlias A LOT, maybe a foot (like how you would do potatoes) and they didn’t have to stake them, it was amazing. In another video from Swan Island they were cutting the dahlias back with some sort of cutter pulled by a tractor just as they were starting to bloom..... they cut the whole plant 🥺, can’t remember how short, which then makes them sturdier/bushier. If you’re planting in rows this might be a good thing to try????

These have seemed intimidating but after seeing how you do it I may have to give it a go. They are so pretty. I just adore the depth on the multicolored varieties.

each time you make a video about a particular flower I become convinced I need more of that flower, killin' my farm budget! hahaha- but I love it, because i'm clearly easily impressionable and mildly addicted to buying and growing flowers!

These flowers are beautiful. No wonder mines never bloomed. My package did not mention soaking them. I am so glad you made this video.

they are so pretty !!! Theres flower farmer who lives in zone 6 and she grows them outside in the fall with a low tunel and some frost cloth protection. so it can be done .

This is another plant that I have been wanting to grow for years.... thanks for the tips...I think I will order some better corms online.... I didn’t soak the ones I had planted once....also I wonder how these would do in a container as then I can dig up the corms easier (I think). The other two plants I have been wanting to grow are anemones & freesia. I can’t seem to find small plants in summer here of these. I’m 8n Wisconsin. I ordered some lisianthus seeds too...waiting for them to come from my order & going to give those a whirl too inside under lights as those too are one of my favorite flowers....
