I agree with mom! I think since everything in the kitchen area is so "unfinished," your mind is taking it as though the space needs more when really you just need to finish what you've started. It makes it look even more "unfinished" with the kitchen table & decor removed. I think we are in season to put a "pin" in finishing this kitchen 🙌🏽

Me too. Was going to say the same thing. I think once the gorgeous (and large) crown moulding is up, that detail itch will be plenty scratched. Also, while it's Victorian, it's folk Vic as you say, not Rothschild's Vic, so perhaps the chair rail goes But picture frame on the walls too might be too high falootin'? (My Texas is showing lol)

I would definitely NOT add picture molding! Like your Mom said, first finish the crown molding, decide on your window treatments and then I think you will find that adding picture molding will be too busy. For that big blank wall, how about hanging an arrangement of baskets there? Or cutting boards like you have in your LA kitchen? Lots of possibilities. ♥ Also, I think if you live with the kitchen for a while, you will get a better feel for what you want, and you can always do it later, y'know? So glad you are feeling better! ♥

I agree with your mom that you should finish the dining room then decide. But I think once you put up the crown molding and some artwork the room will look lovely. The picture molding would be too much. Can’t wait till your stove is installed. That’s a long time coming. Btw Kinsley is looking adorable!

Wainscotting and beadboard are cottagey. Picture molding belongs in a more formal house. That's why you don't see them mixed. You could maybe get away with picture molding in the new addition rooms but not combined with the wainscotting

For all your warranty and instruction manuals make a binder instead of a box. So much easier to flip thru and you can separate them with tabs based on categories and just slide them in protective sheets. Best way to store them!

It IS the best way, I have a binder with page protectors for my inside manuals (appliances,etc.) and another in the garage.(lawnmower,snowblower,etc.) Works great!🙌🏻 ( the snowblower even has a special tool that I taped inside that pocket.)

MaCenna doesn't need instruction manuals, LOL. I use hanging folders with tabs for just about everything. I don't have to make holes and I can just grab that one category instead of a large, potentially heavy binder.

Such a great idea. I have all my warranty information in a large Ziplock Bag in my kitchen. I need to add it to a binder organize it. And throw away the old/outdated warranty information. 👍👍👍

I love wall molding, but it's a no from me in this space (although I don't doubt it looks beautiful in your mind 😂❤️). I think once you get the crown molding and the kitchen done, it won't look bare. And window treatments, art and lighting will help a lot too. I think it looks so gorgeous as is! I'm SO excited to see the kitchen when it's done, it's going to look amazing.

I agree. Even though it's "justifiable" victorian, I think wainscoting is farmhouse and picture molding is more "stately" home. I think about William Morris wallpaper in the dining area. Take it to the fridge and "cut" it with a molding "stick", and let it cover the whole entry wall. That would be a pretty "frame" for the living room and make the dining area so cosy.

I'd definitely sleep for a while on the moldings in the dining room. Get your nice pretty window treatments in, that will definitely fill the space up, along with finalizing decor like your momma said. But who cares if anyone else has done it before! Pave the way if it's what you really want!

Imagine lovely, soft drapes hung from ceiling to floor over each window. They could be a delicate pattern or a floral (which would mimic wallpaper with a lot less hassle). I believe this would create height and grandeur, in the dining room and match the height and grandeur of the kitchen cabinets and the bookshelves in the living room. ❤️

Wall paper dining room walls, carry across onto the kitchen wall dividing into the entry/living room. The natural divide is the wall where you haven't built the upper cabinet (the tile covers under where the cabinets will be), & the frame out of the passage opening will look awesome with wallpaper!

I think once you get more formal curtains in the space it might scratch the itch you’re feeling too add more to the walls. Especially if you are doing certain rods that hang above the window framing and not tension rods inside the windows.

Later after the rooms are painted and finished. If you think something is still missing or you want to try wall paper. Just do it, they do make wallpaper that is removable now. And it can go back up on another wall if you want to do that. Have fun, it’s your home.

You can turn any fabric into wallpaper by using liquid starch (stayflo) it’s cheaper and you can just peel it off the wall without damage if you want to change it. Plus you can wash the fabric and reuse it!

Moms are always right haha! I think is better if you finished and tackle on project at a time, for instance, in this dilema, the kitchen wich is one of the spaces requiring more work, is making you think that the dining room is lacking of something when in reality its just because is right next to that unfinished project. I´m sure once you finish the kitchen you will see that the dining room just needs finishing touches and little adjustments here and there. Now... if even then, you feel that the dining room needs something else.. wait until you finish the rest of the house to calmly plan something to refresh it.

Totally agree with your mom. Finish the kitchen cabinets first. Do the crown moulding and select curtains and then see if you need to add more. Regarding curtains, I'd either go with Roman blinds or cafe style curtains with antique brass rods half way down on the window covering the bottom half of the window , leaving the top uncovered to let light in. No one can see in through the top half from the street as it's too high up. Roman blinds would fit between the window mouldings, curtains will hide the mouldings.

I think when crown molding is up it will be enough. Wall paper in dining or half bath would be good. But I did see that when your table was up against your back of couch it looked nice. Your space is perfect for the table behind the couch. Not everyone has that open space for that . You definitely do!
