Thanks for sharing. My friend Letsblocking mentioned your channel and I thought I’d swing by to say hello. The lack of focus on mindset is a gaping hole I noticed soon after getting into the genre and is a huge part of what inspired me to take things in that direction in my own videos. Enjoy the journey!

Thanks! Your channel was actually one of the main inspirations that led me to making videos, especially your Coffee & Shmups series. So I really appreciate you coming by!

After initially not being that into it, I recently went back to Dodonpachi DFK and I now think it's my new favorite shmup - would love to see a video from you on that!

I'm interested in getting more into shmups. I've played a few spamming credits or cheats before, but I haven't really ever sat down and tried to get better at them yet. I love rhythm games though. I love them because I just enjoy playing the songs, and naturally getting better. Then I love retrying songs over and over to get a max combo. It started to click recently that maybe I can take this same, patient, "enjoy the ride" approach to shmups (and probably difficult games/retro games in general, I've always been a fan of easy modes and relaxing instead of challenging myself [except in rhythm games]) but you can relax when something is challenging too and go at your own pace. I'll check out your other videos too for tips though, thanks for making tips for newcomers!

Thanks for sharing! I can definitely see some similarities between the two genres. You can try practicing each stage/boss separately like a song in a rhythm game, and then piece them together into a single run. That's what I usually do, anyway. It makes learning the tough sections much more enjoyable. And that's when the challenge can become sort of relaxing, as you said.

Did you emulate Dodonpachi? I really want to play stuff like Ketsui but emulation is so diverse and intimidating I have no idea where to start. I’ve mainly just stuck to games on steam and itch but I really want to play the other cave games. Sorry for the off topic question, I’m really loving your channel though!!
@hazylevels Жыл бұрын
Yes, it's emulated, as there's really no other way to play DDP (other than getting the actual arcade hardware). I understand that it can feel daunting to get into emulation, but it's really worth it! You can get RetroArch with the Final Burn Neo core (which takes care of arcade games for RetroArch) on Steam nowadays, and then just search for tutorials on Google or KZbin. You don't need to get all the settings perfect to get a game running. Just set aside some time for the initial setup. You can also get a cheap used PS4 and enjoy the M2 ShotTriggers line, which has the best versions of games like Esprade, Ketsui and (very soon) DDP Daioujou :)

And I'm really glad you're enjoying the channel! I've seen your other comments, but for some reason KZbin doesn't allow me to reply to them :( Not sure if it's some privacy setting or just a glitch.

@@hazylevels oh wow!! Okay that’s super helpful and more straightforward than I was thinking, I’m going to try to do that ASAP then. And yeah I’ve been eyeballing a PlayStation for a while, those m2 ports looks amazing but it’s good to know that I should go for a ps4. Thank you for the reply!! Also, I’m on mobile so maybe that’s why you can’t reply to some comments? I’ll look into that

Good luck! I wish we had more quality ports like Mushi on Steam instead of having to tell people to learn to emulate. Doesn't help the obscurity of these games lol. But on the upside, emulation has some awesome benefits, such as save states for practicing. Oh, and from what I understand, you can play all PS4 games on PS5 too. So that's something to consider if you want a modern console. But the whole M2 line is on PS4, so you can save some money if you already have a gaming pc or just want the shmups.

Hey, that's super cool! Btw I haven't played Cygni myself yet, but from what I've seen it seems to play pretty differently from traditional shmups or bullet hell. Just something to keep in mind. As for content on other genres, let's say something is cooking... :)
