Welcome to the budgeting community. You are in the right place for support and motivation. I think sharing your plan is a good start. You can focus on one goal, maybe debt payoff or also saving some money too. I work on both goals at the same time. I just paid off my student loan and it was literally a 20+ year journey. You can get through this! 🥰

It happens to the best of us, I've repeated the same mistakes too many times. I found the budgeting community last summer and have been learning all I can and now I'm trying something new this year with budgeting and such.

OMG!! My home is an older home and needs a lot of work too. First time home owner and I’m clueless on where to even start. I’m saving up to get things started. New subscriber. I’ll be following your journey…….

@@thebudgetingsteward I’m honestly clueless on where to start with our house too, but I’m sure it’s going to be expensive so I’m going to try to learn as much as I can while I’m working on paying off this debt. I’m hoping by the time we can really start putting money towards it that we will be able to do a fair amount of work ourselves. Thank you for subscribing, and good luck with your home 🙂

You should do it!! I definitely think committing to recording the journey makes the whole process a little funner, and helps with accountability. You’re right, we can do this!! 🙂

I can understand what you are saying about trying to tackle both the emergency fund and the debt. That debt is going to hold things back due to the interest if you are only making the minimum payment. I would personally save up the one month emergency fund and then all extra money goes to that Discover card. Then once that is paid off, you tackle the Capital One. Then finally PayPal. Then you can start saving for the 3-6 month emergency fund and retirement savings. Does your job offer a 401k with a match?

By the way. I had over $18k in credit card debt for many years. If it wasn’t for my parents allowing me and my son to live with them rent free, I guarantee it would have taken me years to pay it off. I know not everyone has that option but I do know what it’s like to drown in cc debt. Especially when I had next to no income as a student back in school.

@@PiggyBankTales I do fully intend to focus more on the credit cards once I hit that 1 month emergency fund. I just had some people commenting that I should stop saving now since I already have $1000, and that is just not much of an emergency fund from my point of view.

Greetings from France. I will be à single mum soon so I will save money too. We have one credit card in France, and I already paid many of my debts. I need to pay off the rest of it in 4 years, I save money for School for my son (I will pay it each month for 5 years) and he will need an excellent laptop. I hope you are achieving your goals like I hope that I will do it too🥰

Do you watch Caleb Hammer? Start binging his videos and you will realize how the interest is absolutely killing you and that any spending that is not "necessary" for basic needs has to be cut to get out of this ASAP. Watch about 5 of his videos and you will understand his approach.

Look at your cc statements and see how much was robbed from you in interest in 2024. Not having at least one month emergency fund is an emergency. Not sure how you and your husband deal with household finances and if this is all just yours or both.
@JoJustBudgeting24 күн бұрын
This is just my debt, and what I pay from my paycheck. I don’t want him to have to pay any of my cc debt, so this is me just tackling my own finances.

You would ne far aheqd by paying off debt before letting 100 envelopes' worth of money sit around doing nothing for you.

You would be FAR ahead by working on debt before emphasizing 1 month's worth of savings.
