Starting Over Season 2, Episode 47

The life coaches partner with Dr. Stan to hold a mega-group discussing race, prejudice, and preferences. As I said in the last episode notes, I did feel like this was all we talked about for days, and I'm yet to see some of the things I remember in editing these, so I guess this will continue. Speaking of that - did I miss the conversation with Marcus on air because that was probably the most eye opening to me, and I'll share it on video later if it doesn't make the editing cut. To be honest, I felt like this never left and was an undercurrent with myself, Towanda, and eventually Rachel when she joined the show. I'll probably pull out this group (it looks intense) and do a reaction video in time, but for now... moving on so I can keep these publishing for you all!
Iyanla gives Kim an assignment to call her sister, which is very much a challenge for her. I can't imagine she was surprised, but it certainly stresses her out. Cassie works on a life blanket for her son, and shares her fear of rejection when she does reconnect to her son. Interestingly Kim is also dealing with a fear of rejection from her sister, so I imagine at some point they will be able to support each other in their next steps.

Wow they really milked this race issue. Literally 3 episodes later they keep going back to it instead of letting the issue run its natural course. You deserved a knighthood for putting up with this so calmly Sommer. You were also the only one who was willing to be honest during this group. Dr Stan was right ! Everyone has prejudice . To overcome it, you have to recognize it. No one else in the group was willing to do that!! The other girls were shaking their heads when Dr Stan said we all have prejudice... Because they don't want to recognize it in themselves!!

I think its a personal preference to want to or not date out of you race. I feel like they singled Sommer out here. .Rhonda even said "thats when your racism or stereotypes come out?" Nooooooooooo. . Do not tell me I'm racist for having a preference. Thats not ok. And such an honest answer was commendable from Sommer.

If we want to eliminate racism we need to be open and talk about it. If you can’t calmly have a conversation then we make no headway in loving our brothers and sisters.
