Re: Grey hair...many, many years ago, I was diagnosed with a very potentially terminal illness (HIV) and because of modern medicine, it wasn't terminal for me at all, and now that I'm an old(er? or just old) man, I have almost entirely grey hair and I think about everyone who didn't have the medical miracles that we have today who never got grey, so I think seeing the grey hair is a great reminder that you're alive and you got through it!

you talking about the numbness you felt while the doctors said you should be celebrating your port removal spoke so loudly to me. i was in the middle of my nighttime routine and had to pause to cry, but in a good way. i'm so sorry you've had to go on this journey. i hope for a world where cancer exists no longer on a daily basis. but everything you've shared with us has been so relatable. i'm so glad you're making huge strides towards being "normal" (whatever THAT is). and i'm so glad you decided to share. i think i say this a lot, but from the bottom of my heart: you'll never know how less alone your openness has made me feel; thank you 💜

I used to work at Walgreens, and one time a lady came in and she ONLY bought Aquaphor, and I noticed she had a little tattoo at the base of her neck that kinda looked like crosshairs and it was still covered with plastic wrap. So I said “Oh cool, new tattoo?” And then she said “Uh, no, this is actually for radiation treatment.” … I hope she’s doing well

Thank you for sharing your journey with us, Grace. I've been following you for years and watching your journey through cancer has helped me and I know so many. A co-worker of mine, who is just literally one of the best guys, is battling stage 4 colon cancer that has spread to his liver. He of course, is a fighter always so he's pushing forward. So while your journey has been different from his, it has been enlightening to see what goes on. Also, while I'm here, if anyone reading this would like to, please send some good vibes his way. I was born with a heart condition, so I've had countless echo cardiograms throughout my life, and yet I still have to talk myself through the social anxiety of the experience 😂 I've never had a boob shelf, but they always make me turn around on the table, and the fear of falling off is the only thing that keeps me from falling asleep in the dark room.

I have to get a lot of ultrasounds because of my health issues and the dark room, plus the warmed up gel they use often makes me fall asleep. But never fully asleep, because there is a lot of pushing and prodding into my abdomen and it makes me have to pee so bad no matter how empty my bladder is.

Grace, I didn’t watch your content before your diagnosis but I knew who you are because of the impact you’ve had on this platform. When I saw your first vlog at the beginning of this process I knew I had to follow your journey because I wanted to know that you were ok. I know it’s weird and it doesn’t make sense but I just felt like I needed to add in my support in the hopes that you would make it through. Silly, I know- views don’t just magically give you health…. Now that I “know you better” I just really appreciate your perspective and your willingness to share this difficult situation. I don’t have cancer but I have my own struggles and hearing you talk through how you’re dealing with this, how you’re trying to show yourself the kindness and patience you deserve… it has been really helpful to me. So, thank you. I’m glad you’re getting better and I hope things continue to get better. I’ll be here either way. Best of luck to you.

I lost a lot of my hair in my teens (unknown reasons!) and it looked like it was all from round the front / sides. Doctor said it was actually all over but that's the thinnest portion of the hair so it looks sparse much quicker. Getting it cut shorter and letting it thicken up really helped and it grew back in no time!

I was surprised by the extreme fatigue I had during radiation. I would come home and sleep for 2+ hours. I kept my port in until all infusions (Herceptin every 3 weeks ) were finished. I have terrible veins and wouldn’t have tolerated infusions without port. I had it removed 5 weeks after my last Herceptin infusion, also awake, no problems. Unfortunately I couldn’t tolerate the cold cap or hand foot cold treatments and now have severe neuropathy and did lose all my hair. Since I’m 70 my hair grew back very salt and pepper and curly, which I kinda like. I’m having a tough time tolerating the 5 year drug protocol. I’m on my 4th and not tolerating this very well. Since you are so young I’m sure you will do very well. Keeping a positive attitude is definitely a game changer. Good luck sweetie.

Speaking of medical procedures while wide awake- I recently had cataract surgery for the second time. When they did my first eye nine years agothey put in the needle, hooked me up and and I was pretty loopy for the whole procedure. This time they kept putting off the moment when they would hook me up to the drugs. They had me fully strapped down in the bed in the operating room, and I literally had to ask them to HOOK ME UP ALREADY. Yes, they numbed my eye, but I really don't want to remember the whole experience. I was barely groggy when I got out of there. It was terrifying.
