Thank you Flexiny and respect to your work. I showed this video to my dad who was a driver of these vehicles on Finnish state company TVL, TVH and last Tieliikelaitos. (road maintenance, changed name many times) company since 1977-2004. He was fired with hundreds other employees when company was pirvatized. So many of these were sworn employees and believed that their promised lifetime position remained. It was very hard time to my dad and the others of group who was fired in this transition. Equipment, even new was sold almost free price and only in foreign countries.

To me, Sisu from Finland and Saurer from Switzerland have always been the epitome of fine European heavy duty trucks. Too small to survive alone, but with that certain emotional extra beyond mass production. I would also like to mention Tatra. Thank you for showing this beauty!

You've hit the nail on the head! For those not that familiar with Finnish identity (the Estonian cousins know, of course), here's a quote from wikipedia: 'Sisu is a Finnish concept described as stoic determination, tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness and is held by Finns themselves to express their national character. It is generally considered not to have a literal equivalent in English.' So indeed the perfect name for a truck!

I don't know if you lifted the rear axle completely up but if you did, it doesn't have enough oil. It should rise like 20-30 cm from the ground. The lifter motor can overheat and break and it's probably hard to find a new one since the truck is kinda old already.

During it's existence Sisu has used diesel engines from a wide range of manufacturers including Valmet, Cummins, Rolls Royce and Caterpillar. They even offered the Caterpillar 18 litre engines during the early 2000's. In this video on the sunvisor there is the manufacturer operating instruction for the "clutch brake", which would suggest this truck also has the famous Eaton Fuller transmission.

The yellow paint and the extra lights in the hood points to an old Finnish "Tielaitos"-vehicle??...The government owned company to keep the roads roadworthy....It seems it still has some hydraulics to attach snowplough and in the cockpit it has a switch labelled "etuaura"...?... Anyway these trucks last forever and are great! Good memories of them when I was serving the Finnish defense forces some 25 years ago! This truck needs to be put back in the road.

I looked at this Sisu background from Estonian Transport Administration site, it is registered as car imported from Finland in 2005 (Original registration was 1995). Last technical inspection was 07.10.2015 with decision: roadworthy with insignificant errors. It does not have valid inspection any more because it was not presented to yearly inspection in 2016. It was snow plow, that you can tell from additional raised front lights and front mount plate.

@@piiluja Yes! Makes sense. I think that time it was Tielaitos (before TVL and TVH, nowadays Destia under Finnish Road Administration) who sold the trucks to Estonia because they were end of their service cycle. There is also on the right side of the truck some hydraulic lines and a metal plate on the frame. Those are for side plow. They were able to control the pressure and angle of the plow.

I'm guessing most of them are abandoned because they didn't pass mandatory yearly technical inspection, and needed fixes were too expensive (exceeds the market value of fixed car). The worst is rust in frame and other critical places. Over the years those problems have not disappeared and some new errors have been added. There are some companies selling such old cars to countries where tech inspections do not exist (basically Africa), but has Flexiny related with those that I don't know.

Except for Cummins or Cat engines and Eaton Fuller gearboxes Sisu have also used Rockwell tandem drive rear axles. With all that - can an European hooded truck be more American?

Fun fact. Because finnish engineers dit think that servising that Eaton fuller transmission is dificult whit the cab (i dont understand why you need to service the top of the transmission) so anyhow they made also the cab to tilt forward on the Sisu SR and SL trucks (Bicause why not :)
