Harris, you can also add whey to the milk your drinking for easy additional protein and calories. A level tablespoon of oil, grease, butter, nut butter (including Nutella) is 100 calories to everything you add it to. Don't just eat toast, eat toast with something on it. If you don't naturally eat a lot of food, eat ground meats because they're easier to shovel down. Rice is easy to shovel down because it's small. The more you chew, the fuller you feel, so eat things you don't have to chew so much like chili or a big batch of pasta and meat sauce (w a LOT of meat) and a small cut of pasta. A variation in of what Nick said: go get 2 lb of 80/20, cook it an don't drain it. Measure out the amount of dry pasta that you need to meet your total carbs for the day, cook it and add it to the meat. Then, you don't have to be fancy just throw a jar or so of Prego in it. When it's finished, turn off the heat and leave the pot on the stove and eat it all day and don't go to bed till it's done. Bake a bunch of chicken thighs and shred them up. Soak them in bbq sauce, leave it sitting out with a package of buns and, every time you walk past it, make yourself little barbecue sandwich. If your lifting and your sleeping is on point, the only thing standing between you and your goals is the food on your plate; so stare it down and eat it.

Starting Strength is the best book I've read on fitness or training. It's arguable that as a teaching resource The Art of War and Book of Five Shperes are superior books on training a physical art, but only because they have an enormous scope the encompass nation state power. However the scope of Starting Strength extends beyond barbells and holds deep wisdom. The Art of War may teach you how to conquer a nation but Mark Rippetoe will teach you how to both make the argument that a nation should be conquered and how to defend that argument against all comers. The Art of War and Book of Five Shperes simply do no offer the same lessons on in intellectual defense of ones positions. Mark also offers a few very detailed paragraphs on how to perform the exercises. While the ratio of exercise information to pages on why you should shut the fuck up and do the lift regardless of dogmatic voices saying to not do the lifts is, questionable Mark does make such a good case and support it so well that even when you're hurting you'll turn to barbells you help rather than sitting on ass. Regardless I will walk away from this book with very serious levels of knowledge and understanding in barbell exercises. Like career changing knowledge. Now I don't usually compliment Mark or several tons that is his staff, but I wanted to confuse them so I thought I'd give my sincere gratitude for the body of work they've built. I assure you that my next comment will be nothing but hate and insults.
