The Hittites are called that because it's what they're identified with in the Bible, but the people themselves were called Nesili, "The people of Nesa", or Kanesh. After Hattusili conquered Hattusa, he took his regnal name "Man of Hattusa" and the nation was called the Kingdom of Hattusa... which is "Hatti" in Assyrian, because this isn't complicated enough yet. :D Kussara is where the dynasty of Hattusili is originally from, which is why one of the starting tribes (and I guess the canonical one) is Kussaran raiders.

@Dunkle0steus2 жыл бұрын
I remember being in the Beta for Old World and I *really* liked the Order system. So many mechanics in this game feel like really positive changes to the 4x genre, but also expertly crafted to represent real-world analogs that other 4X games skip over. Orders are a great way to represent the limitations on communication lines, tactical information, and civil management. There's only so much military activity you can do with limited information, poor communication lines, and a limited military infrastructure. The fact that you have to pick and choose how you use your limited capacity for military action is great. The other thing that it does is it shifts some of the gamey-ness away from the unit and into the mechanic. In civ, your unit can move 2 tiles per turn. It limits the amount of tactical action you can take in a way that really doesn't reflect what a real-world military unit could accomplish in the time span a turn covers (20+ years in the ancient era). Here, a unit can just keep walking and walking because it's not the unit's speed that limits how far it can go, its your civilizations capacity to tactically manage it, which is a great change. It's a mechanic that puts the reigns in the players hands and gives them a ton of agency in controlling their military. It makes predicting what the enemy will do much more difficult as well.
@libiroli2 жыл бұрын
This makes me worried. If the AI follows the Order structure, is it actually smart? Civ AI already struggles, but in Old World the decisions seem exponentially more difficult. How good is OW AI in your experience?

Oh, I love this! The Hittites were a major power of the bronze age - and their legacy loved on in the city states of the Levant! Their homelands were called The Land of Hatti - Hattusili (or Hattushili) was a famously great king, as was Mursili! They absorbed the great kingdom of Mitanni, the land around the ancient city of Mari. Mari seems to be as old as the Sumerian cities, but unique in its culture even though it ended up blended into the Mesopotamian cultural sphere. Yeah, I'm a nerd and this is one of my favourite parts of the dawn of civilisation! 😄

@PotatoMcWhiskey - The little triangles in the upper right hand corner of character portraits actually denote their opinion of you as the leader (not whether they can succeed you). So a green triangle means happy, no triangle is neutral, orange means upset, and red means very angry. It's just a useful visual cue. Great video, btw. Looking forward to this series.

Your Old World videos are some of the best on KZbin, because you explain the fundamental gameplay in a simple, but interesting and emergent way, as you go from turn to turn. At the same time, you provide an overall "feel" of the game and its various interlocking "layers". Your insights as to why the game is important and worth a new player's time are invaluable. Most KZbin channels/reviewers, have nothing to say beyond the obvious (i.e., it's like a combination between Civ and Crusader Kings), so it's refreshing to watch something that delves a little deeper. Well done!

I like the orders idea. It really makes positive relations with others more powerful. I could take over the city. Or if I could have a solid ally. I would not get all the benefits. But they would be spending all of their own orders when supporting me in my time of need. So more raw power or less control but more effective action and regional power. Have not played it yet. Also while it's nice to pick your exact city location. Having these city sites does have some value. No settler shows up in that little two tile zone between your cities and builds. Causing a needles war as you raze the city to stop it from stealing your tiles. Plus you get some choice as their are multiple city tiles with each other. It's a trade off. But I see some value in it. Even if you lose some choices. I think this game is something I can enjoy. As much as I love civilization.

So this game is basically a civilization game meets crusader kings (or any paradox game)? I really am interested, one thing I have found about Civ like games is they are very linear in how you progress through them and dont have enough randomness, if you exlude the map and terrain features. Also, I really am interested in that Order system. I just cannot play Civ 6 or 5 late game. Having so many untis to manage especially when at war is a nightmare. Probably spend 15 + minutes late game moving stuff around, it just is too much.
