I hate that is canon personally The whole first 2 season was crapping on the old shows just to pretend mariner is interesting. Sure if it was season 3 and 4 I would be ok but mariner was turned into such an entitled mary Sue that I it was annoying. Not to mention that the fact that she was still in starfleet was showing that now it works on pure nepotism as nobody but her mom would have kept her. Mariner is an annoying, disobedient bitch, but she gets shit done. All but the most stuckup Starfleet officers would recognize that she is better off as a constantly demoted ensign IN Starfleet than as a civilian.

Stories are not as solid, like the one about Eugenics. They didnt make it clear why Eugenics is dangerous. It is ironically the problem with the real issues they draw parallels with, neither side argues about the issues in a honest way, they always just try to discredit whatever other side says. And I wanted to see that awareness, which wasn't present. Similar stuff happens in 8. episode of the second season too. But to be fair, it is still better than what they were doing before.

I like that this retcons one of ENT quirks. Archers enterprise didn’t use shields because they had a rare alloy that was harder than anything, made even harder still by polarising. But the technology was abandoned because it was so ludicrously dangerous to manufacture.

In my headcannon this alloy they are talking about is essential to the process but is so dangerous to manufacture Earth dumped the technology and went pure shields instead.

I love that scream that Boimler made at 1:29. It's just like how he screams in Lower Decks. Yes, I know it's the same actor, playing the same character (albeit in a different format: live-action as opposed to 2D animation), but it's still awesome to see Boimler's idiosyncrasies in live-action. I just wish we could have also gotten to see Tendi and Rutherford in live-action (Tendi especially, since she's my favorite character from Lower Decks). And what would have been cool was if Commander Ransom also crossed over into the live-action world and tried to flirt with Una (for those who don't know, Jerry O'Connell, who plays Ransom, and Rebecca Romijn, who plays Una, are married in real life).

@@GBRyker61 I've seen Filipinos in all colors of the rainbow, from lighter-skinned to darker-skinned. As it is, Eugene Cordero has a darker skin tone. He could easily pass for a lighter-skinned African-American, like Rutherford. Or maybe Rutherford is a Filipino of darker complexion (in fact, I'm pretty sure I heard that somewhere). Also, Dante Basco (Rufio in Hook, Prince Zuko in Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Jake Long in American Dragon: Jake Long) has a darker complexion, also being Filipino. Compare that to an old Filipino classmate of mine from high school, who had a bit of a tan, but had a significantly lighter complexion than Eugene Cordero and Dante Basco.

She was a regular on the TV show Taxi where she played the part of Simka Gravas, the wife of Latka, the character played by Andy Kaufman. As for movies she played the Ghost of Chrismas Present in Scrooged and the wife of Miracle Max in The Princess Bride.

however, something MUST sway Spock to decide to follow a more "Vulcan" path. Chapel's "influence" is minimal if this is the same timeline, for Spock comes to a more refined view of Vulcan logic as he grows older. We also know that with each time travel incursion, the timeline tries to correct itself.

It's possible that Boimlers words came back to Spock, especially perhaps after meeting the more reckless Kirk. It feels to me that Spock may have eventually surmised that a middle path, one that honored both his Vulcan and Human heritage was the correct path. As he seems more Vulcan to most humans, but almost too human to most vulcans by the time we get to the TOS movies or TNG. And even advises an alternate selves of charting that same course in the Kelvin Timeline. So, strange theory, what if Boimler going back in time was the timeline correcting itself. Especially if when taken into consideration without Boimler time traveling we also likely would not have Tendi in LD.

This now allows Spock to continue on this path because as he tells Boimler, if I change now then I will have altered the future! But I think the damage has been done. Because now Christine knows that if Spock continues on this path, the logical Spock may never reappear, and then the fantastic important things he was to do in the future may never happen. Christine now has a choice to make IMO. Perhaps this is how they redeem her character (somewhat).

Orville walked so Lower Decks could run. Lower Decks a comedic return to classic trek (and this episode is more LD than SNW) ran so Strange New Worlds could fly. Do not discount that's which is indirectly responsible for the current tone of SNW. If memory serves it was the fan reception to the homages, references, and return to episodic storytelling in LD, and LD's runaway success that gave Goldman and Kurtzman the willingness to let SNW have a more classic Trek Ensemble feel than the season long single protagonist, and pesemistic futures that Disco and Picard seasons 1&2 had.

Altright, stupid head canon time: as LD occurs *before* the romulan supernova, and much of Boimlers life happens before that- an older Vulcan meets him once at Starfleet Academy and nudges him in the direction of being the rule adherent he is now, and maybe at least once same said Vulcan gave him a reccomendation.- not for anything exceptional, something subtle, like following starfleet protocol. When asked, the older Vulcan simply responds that "one must be mindful of the future" and with a raised eyebrow and a barely hidden twinke in his eye, Ambassador Spock would turn away. Boimler of course, for all his book smarts, probably wouldnt even recognize that it was the Ambasador.

It's funny how bad Starfleet safety precautions are. Here they're trying to create new elements in a lab near other sensitive equipment instead of a sealed chamber. And 100 years later in TNG, they're still doing dumb dangerous stuff like testing phasers next to the warp core.
