Another note on Luke being able to fly the X-Wing: In the Princess, Farm Boy, and the Scoundrel novelization, there is a scene where Wedge takes Luke to a flight simulator they have on the base. Luke then went on to set the high score on the simulator after a few more tries.

I've always interpreted the slow pacing of Obi-Wan and Vader's final duel to be deliberate on both of their parts for different reasons. Yes, Obi-Wan is older now but we saw Count Dooku, who was in his 80s during the Clone Wars, pull off insane stunts so I believe Obi-Wan could have done the same but chose not to because he didn't know what Vader had learned since their last encounter. Same goes for Vader, he LOST both their previous duels, so he approached this final one cautiously because rushing at Kenobi didn't do him any favours before. I think that makes the most sense for him since we have seen repeatedly what he is capable of doing despite his armor.
@michaelramon241110 ай бұрын
I think the Rebels episode "Twin Suns" is illustrative here. A Jedi Master of Ben Kenobi's skill can end even a competent opponent in a single blow if they get an opening. Vader absolutely does not want to give Obi-wan that shot. His statement "now I have become the master" could also indicate that he wants to demonstrate his growth since their last fight - exhibiting focus and precision in combat rather than the recklessness and rage that had undermined him before.
@smokedbeefandcheese414410 ай бұрын
Of all of the justifications after the fact I really like yours the best because it speaks to the psychology of Darth Vader as well as Obi-Wan and doesn’t just rely on somebody being old. I also really like the idea of Obi-Wan sacrificing himself so he could escape
@Rockhound616510 ай бұрын
Not to mention that an 800 year old Yoda can move like lightning. well it was LUKE that suggested the "reward, being more wealth than Han could imagine" (and Han could imagine quite a bit). But Leia is begrudging in that respect " if money is all that you love, then that's what you will receive". Also the original plan was simply to deliver Artoo to Leia's father (Bail Organa) on Alderaan. Not rescue her from the Death Star. Well they delivered Artoo to Leia's father (Vader) alright.....yet the Imperials didn't have a clue - that was THE Artoo unit they've been looking for all along not "An" Artoo Unit. Maybe Kenobi's mind trick was not simply a momentary memory lapse, but long lasting.

It was a mandate by Fox at the time since they were producing it. They didn't have much faith in the movie so they didn't meddle with it much, but they did insist that having, "Episode IV: A New Hope," at the beginning of the crawl was going to confuse audiences despite that kind of being one of Lucas' goals with emulating the old weekly serials of Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers where you would just be thrust in the middle of a story that had begun at the theater some weeks back and you missed a few chapters. Because Fox didn't have much faith in Star Wars, they allowed Lucas to have the freedom to produce any sequels himself purely through Lucasfilm, and that's why The Empire Strikes Back has Episode V. In 1981, there was a re-release of A New Hope that was then allowed to include the Episode Number and Title. As an added bonus fact: Despite having no "creative" input (financial backing) in the other Star Wars movies, Lucas always returned to Fox for distribution with Star Wars. After Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, Disney was still obligated to include the Fox logo at the start of A New Hope, even having to get a license from Fox to distribute A New Hope blu-rays produced in 2015, but not the others. However, after Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019, at least on Disney+, the Fox logo has been restored to all 6 of Lucas' movies, and I have to imagine that's the case for any other physical releases since, although I can't be certain.
@Playhouse7610 ай бұрын
@@MCLegoboy I don't believe Fox had anything to do with it. Although Lucas always planned for the movie to have started in the middle of a larger story, none of his drafts used Episode IV or A New Hope in their titles or in the opening crawl. (The third draft used the title 'The Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Starkiller', which informed the title of the novelization of the first film: "Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker".) This is something Lucas conceived while working on 'The Empire Strikes Back'. The title wasn't added to the crawl of 'Star Wars' until 1981, after 'Empire' had come out, to bring it in line. In fact, in '76 and '77, the first film was actually Episode VI in Lucas' original 12-film plan/outline, which he noted on paper in 1978. This changes to a 9-film plan during production and post on 'Empire', so they identified that film as Episode V and 'Star Wars' retroactively to Episode IV. Fox still owned 'Star Wars' and the distribution rights to the other five films until the Disney purchase, which is why they had to get a distribution license from Fox for the Blu-ray releases of those six films. That's why the logo and fanfare still appeared on those. They stay on now out of tradition. Same with Indy. Paramount still owns the first four Indiana Jones movies, so Disney has to license them from Paramount. (They also cut Paramount in on any money from new Indiana Jones movies, like 'Dial of Destiny'.)

Slow light saber battle? Gotcha covered here. Force users can see into the future. The farther they look, the more variables can come into play, and potential futures come to pass. But a few seconds into the future? Total clarity. That's why they make good pilots at high speeds and why they can fly ships they've never been in before. They can see the outcomes of all decisions.... so the light saber battle is like a game of chess, played mentally, seeing the future and responding to what each side might choose to do and countering it.

Why wasn’t Wedge up there getting a medal with Luke and Han? Because Wedge didn’t infiltrate the Death Star, rescue Princess Leia, and deliver the Death Star plans to the rebels.

Wow I was just watching Top 10 of Star Trek Dumbest things in the movies, the other day. Star Trek never really give explanations. Star Wars is amazing in giving explanations "in-story".

I’ve watched these movies from the beginning and have loved almost all of them. It never ceases to amaze me how the entire mythology surrounding the story has an almost factual presentation and need for detailed explanations. It’s always been lots of fun for me, I’m not getting upset about a discrepancy or three…

I’ve heard that ponda bobas arm bled because his species is very spider like, so his body moves by flowing blood into the extremities, which means there is just too much blood to cauterize fully.
@tobyriecke397210 ай бұрын
I believe I read somewhere that one of the reasons there was blood (originally) in episode 4 was because George Lucas wanted to avoid a G rating. Is that accurate? Or am I mistaken

In an early comic it was stated that Chewbacca did received a medal but was too tall for Leia to pass the medal around his neck.

This video made me realize how silly people are when they complain about Disney "breaking established lore" with the hyperspace ramming or people surviving lightsaber stabs. The prequels created 40 plot holes in this movie alone that were retroactively given excuses in books to make it fit the canon decades after it came out lmao. If you can accept the "hyperspace oil trail" left by the Tantive IV, you can accept the "rare experimental shields made it possible" excuse for the Holdo Maneuver that was explained in the Last Jedi's novelization
@alexanderball63268 ай бұрын
So much of the disney hate is so stupid and irrational. "Disney doesn't respect the established lore and canon!" So, we're just going to pretend the prequel trilogy didn't recon tons of stuff from the OG triliogy and change what the established lore was up until that point? "Disney doesn't understand Star Wars!" So, we're just going to pretend dave filoni doesn't still work there? "Disney doesn't understand lightsabers!" So, we're just going to pretend Maul didn't get cut in half and survive? "Disney is killing Star Wars!" So, we're gonna pretend that Andor, Mando, Rebels, Rogue One and Kenobi don't exist? That The Holiday Special, the feature length Ewok movies, the animated clone wars movie, the first 4 seasons of clone wars are good? And that the prequel trilogy wasn't met with huge disappointment from the audience? The mental gymnastics it takes must be exhausting
@BthIX8 ай бұрын
@alexanderball6326 Yep to all of that. Especially on the lightsabers. Ive gotten into many heated arguments with people who think theres no way Sabine or Reva could have survived being stabbed
@alexanderball63268 ай бұрын
@@BthIX the best way to handle those imo: "hmm its almost as if star wars is science fiction and fantasy or something and isn't bound by physical laws of the real world 🤔"

Why was Jabba called a human being by Han Solo although in the re-releases he is a hutt?
@D2RCR10 ай бұрын
Jabba was originally conceptualized as a human (and in fact he *was* a human in the original version of the scene where Han meets with Jabba in the docking bay), but I'm pretty sure he's just being sarcastic.

At the risk of causing a fight, it's always interesting which unanswered questions people get angry about. The ultimate example of this for me is the bombs in The Last Jedi. It's fine to be curious about them, but I cannot for the life of me understand how you can get mad at them. The answer is magnets, but even if it was just gravity working fictionally, IT'S STAR WARS. Why accept sound in space and a million other fantasy things but draw the line at that?
@D2RCR10 ай бұрын
Not to mention those bombs aren't the only ones in canon that fall vertically (the proton bombs dropped by Y-wings during the Battle of Scarif also do this).
@Compucles10 ай бұрын
@@D2RCR Also, don't forget about the TIEs bombing the asteroid field in "Empire Strikes Back" despite the limited gravity.

Thank you. I hate when I see questions like this and people say “it’s just a movie, don’t worry about it.” Just because it’s a fiction doesn’t mean there can’t be in-universe explanations.

I'm glad you didn't bother with the old "did Luke push the torpedo into the Death Star with the force" question. I always thought that particular question was too silly to take very seriously, despite how popular it became (IIRC, it's because Robot Chicken or something made a joke about it, right?).

14:18 - I like the idea that Greedo shot first, but simply missed, and that shows how Han Solo is very lucky. Because you need to have Lady Luck at your side to be a successful smuggler in Star Wars, avoiding both the Empire and bounty hunters.

My question is why Lucas used so much smoke during the initial battle on the Tantive 4 so it's like a smoke screen? It looks like Lucas added more smoke than necessary. Reminds me of a WW2 Battleship puffing out a smoke screen to avoid being hit. I thought too much smoke in subsequent fights in the initial movies was always present...
